Hey, maybe that one cigarette Skyler smoked was the ricin cigarette!

Maybe Jesse smoked the ricin cigarette by mistake!

Maybe Walt's dog ate it!

So wait, is there only one episode left this season?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

jesse poisoned brock bc the kid owns him in sonic. not sure how you guys are missing this

Pretty sure Matt is otm and the entire purpose of the episode was to put Jesse into the same wacked-out paranoid state that Walt is in. It's stupid, because with the exception of the "must deal with Hank" issue, Gus is the stable one. Walt is really only guessing that Gus will come back at him for attempting to protect Hank, right? I don't remember Gus saying "if you try to warn your brother in law, all bets are off."

I really think that both Walt and Jesse are attributing to Gus actions that Gus really doesn't care about. I mean, even if Hank has his scent, he has about one million ways of addressing that that do not involve killing him. He's got a lot of good vibes at the DEA and has covered up his operation really well!

p sure gus wants to kill hank and walt and his whole family jesse brok and everyone else in the world

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:33 (fourteen years ago)

rly? I don't get the impression Gus is a "kill for the sake of killing" guy, more like a guy who kills for a reason, and not wildly.

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

Well, the whole abandoning the car thing shows that even Gus is not immune to psycho paranoia.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

You could see him looking around and kind of doing the math!

Mike not there to watch the car as he's in the hospital. Both his goons went in the hospital with him. Unattended car for a period of time. Man at hospital who seems to think he's done something wrong and has a history of being unstable and has a partner who feels actively threatened.

In the terms of being a long-time high-level drug distributor, walking away from the car seems pretty logical.

yeah just seemed like another case of gus being an irl criminal while walt n jesse play act

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:40 (fourteen years ago)

walt: "it's brilliant!!!"

Reminded me of the Don staring at his tequila and waiting for Gus to drink his first.

Walt has got Gus consistently wrong thoughout this season.

Whether or not Walt's wrong almost isn't relevant right now. The whole season has hinged on 'whose side is Jesse on?' and now he's a spinning needle. If you get killed by paranoid play actors, you're still dead.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

sure walt and jesse can def kill gus, theyre just operating at a noted disadvantage

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:47 (fourteen years ago)

I am actually rooting for Jesse to learn more from Gus, because all Walt does is argue with him and force him into shitty decisions, whereas Gus manipulates him into thinking he has potential and then sets up an apprenticeship with Mike.

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

Gus has a much more nuanced view of the concept of trust, whereas Walt treats it as a binary!

I don't remember Gus saying "if you try to warn your brother in law, all bets are off."

actually he said exactly this

the boy with the gorn at his side (Edward III), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

Ah, that makes slightly more sense as to why Walt is going nuts.

we'll see how ricingate plays out but any one of the outcomes feels unsatisfactory... the most interesting is if walt actually poisoned the kid. if gus did it, well that's been telegraphed pretty well. maybe gus had someone take the ricin cigarette and then poisoned the kid with something other than ricin to mess with jesse's head? or maybe he wasn't poisoned on purpose at all and jesse just lost the cigarette. either way fuck this macguffin.

gus' precog probably wouldn't have bothered me in a diff eps - as a tension-building scene it worked, it was well-executed, etc. maybe it's unfair to compare this to the last couple eps of s3, where the events felt like the inevitable snapping shut of some horrible trap, but this time around the seams are showing, feeling like I can see the writers' strings yanking the characters around.

still a great show, there have been some fantastic eps this season, this one suffered mainly from blowing last week's windup.

why didn't gus leave one of his two hospital pals with the volvo - a bit fishy

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

Because then he wouldn't have had any backup. Tyrus was already in the hospital. The other guy drove there with him.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

get another pal gus it's too risky or get tyrus to come out and meet you at the car for god's sake

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

Why did Gus even bother to show up to the hospital if he was willing to back down so easily? He could have just sent a sympathetic message that Jesse should take his time. Why put himself at risk for no gan? (Answer: convenient to the plot set up).

And by the way, the way he's been depicted I get the impression Tyrus would have no problem killing anyone for any reason. Those three workers he put back on the bus to Bolivia or wherever? What are they odds they even got on a bus? The guy's glare alone is lethal.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

No gain, that is.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

maybe gus came to the hospital so that he could hear the kid had been poisoned and act all shocked and compassionate

if tyrus killed those workers why pretend they went on a bus let walt know about it so that he can shit it even more

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

"get another pal gus it's too risky or get tyrus to come out and meet you at the car for god's sake"

I'm not sure he was thinking about the risk until he spoke to Jesse.

"Why did Gus even bother to show up to the hospital if he was willing to back down so easily?"

Gus didn't seem to be aware the kid had been poisoned.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

Tyrus didn't tell him? And how did Tyrus find him at the hospital?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

Tailed him, presumably.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

maybe tyrus didn't know the kid was poisoned but maybe he did ring jesse like where are you supposed to be at work and he said in the hospital

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

bitch

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

ha ha

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

But see, Jesse was there a while. Then he falls asleep at night. Then he wakes up to Tyrus poking him. If Tyrus had tailed him, was he just waiting outside the whole night? Very odd he could find Jesse in this hospital. Hospitals are big!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

a bit fishy

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

he was like "where's jesse" to a nurse and she told him

lol-qaeda (am0n), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

maybe saul's goon planted some sort of tracking device on him

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

If Tyrus had tailed him, was he just waiting outside the whole night?

Yep.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

unless he called him earlier while they were off camera and it woke jesse up and jesse told him or maybe it was the night before or maybe there's a tracking device on jesse's car I suppose

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:54 (fourteen years ago)

What do you think guys like Tyrus and Mike do? 90% of their job is waiting around. Jesse is the key to the entire operation right now.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, does Tyrus have somewhere more important to be??

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

at this stage we do not know

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

maybe tyrus is gus's boss

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

Tyrus is an LA serial killer, iirc.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

gus and tyrus are married

lol-qaeda (am0n), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

and tyrus is the boss

conrad, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

holly told him

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

Who? Oh, you mean Walt's dog?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

Josh how did you feel about the use of the baby in this episode? I've been curious.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:19 (fourteen years ago)

Baby Holly has an excellent collection of cute hats.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

Apologies is if this has already been speculated, but isn't it possible that Jesse just fucked up w/ replacing the ricin butt and the kid hasn't actually been poisoned at all? That Jesse is having a (justifiably) paranoid breakdown? Do we have any confirmation from the hospital that he has really been poisoned? Seems the only dignified way out of this for the writers—Gus and Walt would both suspect the other of poisoning the kid....

Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

I think that's totally plausible.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

yeah me too except if the mum told the docs that maybe it was ricin they'd check and see it wasn't and then she'd not glower at jesse I suppose *except* if the glower if purely because he maybe has put her son at risk in any way even in a way that she doesn't actually know anything about
