obama is visiting australia today - i watched the curb ep with larry and leon mixing up their phones the other day, all i can think is "I'M THE PRESIDENT OF HITTIN DAT ASS" every time i hear the visit mentioned on the radio.

Ha, yeah, I think of Leon saying "Barack Obama, motherfucker!" with some regularity.

finally caught up on season 7 and 8, I'm thrilled with how well this show has rebounded.

"Mister Softee" was one of those that was like a great Seinfeld episode where you look back and wonder how the hell they managed to cram so many plots into one episode. Is a Series 9 coming soon?

frogbs, Monday, 19 August 2013 15:57 (twelve years ago)

that film that was just out on hbo is just a long (good) episode of curb. recommended. weirdly underpromoted though, so much so i can't even remember what it's called.

NI, Monday, 19 August 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

something like 5 laughs in 100 minutes is not considered as "good for me

nostormo, Monday, 19 August 2013 17:51 (twelve years ago)

more like a mediocre and overlong episode

nostormo, Monday, 19 August 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

ive only watched the chicago bit and was pretty underwhelmed

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 19 August 2013 19:23 (twelve years ago)

It's called Clear History. And LD is being non-committal about when/if CYE is coming back.

nickn, Monday, 19 August 2013 20:42 (twelve years ago)

i thought they were filming the next season of CYE more than a year ago

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 19 August 2013 22:16 (twelve years ago)

nah, it's not up there with the killer episodes of curb but it's decent enough. full disclosure: i've been trying to fill the LD void with louis ck's weak shit so maybe i'm giving this new film too much leeway

NI, Friday, 23 August 2013 19:11 (twelve years ago)

I was down for a whole day with stomach stuff and watched Clear History in a sleep-deprived haze, but really enjoyed it. It's totally throwaway, not as funny as Curb, but it had some fun people in it and was just very...fluffy and amiable. It reminded me of some of the recent Woody Allen caper-ish movies like Small Time Crooks. I think any fan of Larry who has seen all of Curb would find something to like in it, but otherwise it's not going to convert anyone. I was certainly glad of it that day and now plan to visit Martha's Vineyard when I have a chance.

admrl's assesment of Clear History is right on the money. I recommend it!!

my gf had never seen curb your enthusiasm before, so a few nights i excitedly cued up season 1, episode 1. i remembered it as being really funny (it's the tent pants episode), but man, i didn't realize how painfully terrible the acting was in the early episodes! it was a little hard to watch - i suppose they hadn't gotten their characters down yet, or the whole improvising off of an outline thing. i skipped ahead to an episode from season 4 and it was like watching a totally different show.

reckless woo (Z S), Monday, 18 November 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

You skipped directly to Season Four, of all seasons? 2-3 are a cut above everything else IMO, there's loads of great stuff throughout but those two are majestic.

Matt DC, Monday, 18 November 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

oh, it was a skip ahead just for a single episode. it was more of a plea, like, "no i swear the acting isn't normally this bad, it's actually quite good, here check out any episode that is not one of the first few!"

reckless woo (Z S), Monday, 18 November 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

I think the later seasons have considerably less improvisation in them as well.

Matt DC, Monday, 18 November 2013 19:40 (twelve years ago)

Clear History is appalling. It's definitely reminiscent of latter-day Woody Allen in that it's a load of ostensibly funny people in a completely humourless movie

I did not know that was Kate Hudson either

I've been a very intermittent watcher since it's been on, like just an episode or two here and there, and I finally have HBO and HBO Go so I went back to Season 1, and I do find it kind of halting and choppy. Moreover though I also feel like the episodes are so formulaic. I don't remember if they get a little less formulaic later.

ive come to accept that no matter how great a movie, tv show , record etc might be, if I try to cajole someone into listening/watching they're going to hate it and im going to be filled with shame and embarrassment until the listening/watching is complete. Now everything i like is just mine unless i find out someone else already likes it too.

First time I got really into Curb and then started making my friends watch it, it didn't take long to realize the show is 90% unpleasant people screaming at each other.

I had watched all the episodes available at the time (6 seasons) and was blinded by how funny it is.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 23:19 (twelve years ago)

H, who hadn't seen much of it before, complained about the fact that it's a show about people with no real problems who complain all the time. The characters are all financially set and don't seem to have goals, cares or passions. I guess part of the comedy comes out of that though, the sort of "rich people existentialist hell" atmosphere.

season 1, episode 1 isn't very representative though - wasn't it meant as one-off special?
Anyway what's the season / ep in whih LD digs up his mother's coffin? that's a good one

I have been a bit ill for the last few days and binged season 1 + 2 of this, its definitely classic for me. Some of these really cracked me up, beloved aunt, the doll's head one, the incest survivor group one. I'm sort of buzzing that there is another 50 episodes of this to watch.

trailer thoughts? At a glance, seemed both more pro-shot and big budget, and (even) more ridiculous.

The last season kinda seemed like the one season too many, so not sure how much this is needed.
