I actually didn't think it was a handball even after seeing a few replays but then the picture convinced me it was. Obviously it was a very difficult call for the officials to make though, so i don't think it was the crime of the century or anything. That honour goes to the Rodwell sending off

Dios mio! This kid is FUN to hit! (Noodle Vague), Monday, 3 October 2011 06:54 (fourteen years ago)

I saw 2nd half of the derby.

Arsenal looked very dangerous in their characteristic way for a spell. They looked like winning, then, for c.10 minutes.

But otherwise I cannot recall never seeing Tottenham so dominant in such a game save perhaps the 5-1 in the league cup 2008.

For the last 20 minutes we were making and wasting chances for fun. I have never seen a NL derby like it.

the pinefox, Monday, 3 October 2011 07:22 (fourteen years ago)

i only caught the second half, and while we created many openings we didn't test the goalkeeper but once or twice and gave them far too much space to attack us.

That said i don't think friedel was taxed either, so my nerves were probably a result of long term spurs fan pessimism more than anything else.

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

I was absolutely terrified from about 80mins on.

Parker has been an amazing signing, our midfield is so much more commanding with him in it. He and Sandro together could be pretty difficult to get through.

Also Kaboul is... competent now?

Matt DC, Monday, 3 October 2011 08:37 (fourteen years ago)

I saw the 2nd half too and thought the defences were pretty woeful 'til Sandro was brought on, and there wasn't much in it in terms of attacking 'til that point - except that it was only Spurs able to turn that into proper chances, and only Spurs had another gear to step up to.

Arsenal are really in a bit of bother though. I can't see how they're going to improve massively, except by Ouilszer's return and maybe Ramsey making a step up, and there's too much wrong for the January window to cure. They could easily lose all ten games against the big five imo, and if you're counting on them grinding out results against the rest to salvage the season that's got to be a stretch too, not to mention the away form.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 3 October 2011 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

kaboul, bassong perfectly good central defenders when partnered by king, with gallas a little less so and with dawson a lot less so.

Parker and sandro together leaves modric/vdv/thudd where?

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 08:53 (fourteen years ago)

weirdest thing from an arsenal point of view is how it wasnt really a scandal to anyone, anymore; the loss was expected and it duly came. and there's no point even saying anything about it until wenger's gone.

r|t|c, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:10 (fourteen years ago)

Spurs made swashbuckling breaks down the left, and into wide open spaces in the middle, time and again. Clear-cut chances came and went - players scuffing with just the keeper to beat.

I have never seen this against Arsenal before.

Wenger may be right about a handball or something but he should probably also consider that his team have not looked so beatable in a league match in WHL ... ever. Not in all the years that I have watched his teams roll us over.

the pinefox, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:12 (fourteen years ago)

this is probably the most competent spurs team in 50 years tbf.

r|t|c, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:14 (fourteen years ago)

Swashbuckling! Bale has had a fairly subdued start to the season but has looked very dangerous for the last couple of games.

Depends on who we're playing obviously, 4-2-3-1 in tougher games away from home maybe. Don't think Thudd will get back in the team, maybe doesn't deserve to. Ditto Lennon.

I remember when we hadn't beaten Arsenal since 1994 or therabouts. Since that 3-0 whipping two years ago we've beaten them three times in the league and drawn once. Good times.

Matt DC, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:15 (fourteen years ago)

Parker is indeed a great signing who also seems to have become

a) better
b) tidier, more modest and effective in his play
c) shorter

since earlier years of his career.

the pinefox, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:21 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i was thinking parker looked smaller! i thought maybe players shorts had generally gotten bigger.

trying to think of some worse arsenal sides than the current shower. 1994 was the last rubbish team i can recall and i still reckon they'd grind out a 2-0. before that i'm not really qualified to judge though.

r|t|c, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:23 (fourteen years ago)

parker is down as a sixfooter?

Exceptional balance and athleticism, what a thorax this boy has

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 09:27 (fourteen years ago)

That 1994 Arsenal team was shocking. Chris Kiwomya. Glenn Helder. They genuinely looked like they might go down at one point.

Matt DC, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:28 (fourteen years ago)

he came from arsenal, he cost the r's fuck all, kiwomyaaa

r|t|c, Monday, 3 October 2011 09:34 (fourteen years ago)

Adel Taarabt stormed off after being substituted at half-time as QPR crashed 6-0 at Fulham – then caught the bus home.

Fans were stunned to see the temperamental forward, still dressed in a club tracksuit, waiting at a bus stop near the ground before the game had even finished. He had been replaced by DJ Campbell.

r|t|c, Monday, 3 October 2011 10:04 (fourteen years ago)

a lie, but a funny one

r|t|c, Monday, 3 October 2011 10:05 (fourteen years ago)

Chelsea's second and fifth goals were fucking gorgeous.

That Lampard, he's so past it.

Spurs top four this year? Arsenal top half?

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Monday, 3 October 2011 10:14 (fourteen years ago)

lampard's never been touted as 'past it' by anyone that matters, pete. He'll play til he's 35 and still score goals. England and chelsea both correct to be looking at long term replacements though

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 10:21 (fourteen years ago)

'I dunno. Malouda and Kalou are pretty crap and Drogba and Lampard are past it.

Ha ha. Obviously i was being a tad hyperbolic, but i wouldn't read too much into his hat-trick either.

lol

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 10:44 (fourteen years ago)

Looking forward to Gary Cahill (18 goals conceded in six matches) sorting out Arsenal's defensive frailties.

Matt DC, Monday, 3 October 2011 10:46 (fourteen years ago)

Strong bench again Sunday, and with no Alex, Kalou, Torres or McEachran.

Does make me wonder who was responsible for our abysmal dealings last summer and the over-promotion of young players who clearly weren't as good as we were led to believe. The fact Arnesen left at the same time as Ancelotti could give us the answer.

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Monday, 3 October 2011 10:48 (fourteen years ago)

Cahill isn't great is he? If he was, United would have had him by now.

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Monday, 3 October 2011 10:48 (fourteen years ago)

not a very fair point. throw peak beckenbauer into that bolton unit instead and he wouldn't do much good, never mind the goalie throwing it into his own net twice.

Cahill is on another level to djourou, who is the least mentally suited central defender since anthony gardner. You know how maldini or mcgrath could play into their sixties because their awareness, tactical ability, intelligence, courage and movement made up for any deficiencies in pace? Djourou is the opposite of that.

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

i know you don't like djourou and all, but jesus. you were even making comments about him during yesterdays game, when he wasn't even involved, as if he was the root of us losing.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 3 October 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

That Wilkinson 'challenge' yesterday was deserving of a red. Also wtf at Jonathon Pierce claiming that Bolton's defending was worthy of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest?? What does that even mean?? Calling them mental patients seems a bit out of order, tho maybe the keeper was hearing voices or summit.

pandemic, Monday, 3 October 2011 12:48 (fourteen years ago)

ha wait who was the other arsenal cb yesterday then?

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

alex song?

Djourou is pure shite tho

holby city thrilled b cosby (darraghmac), Monday, 3 October 2011 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

djourou is about the same level as koscielny and mertesacker, tho with different faults

arsenal linked with vertonghen today
