I voted yesterday on my walk down to the Old City. The ladies at the 4th & Gill voting place always have cookies and kind words ready for you after voting. <3

I not only voted, I wrote an endorsement of Rogero. (Which I'm sure did whatever not-much-good alt-weekly endorsement do.)

Lotsa people pissed at Hultquist. But Madeline oughta win pretty easy in November.

Happy to report that Knoxville just elected its first woman mayor, a Democrat and (gasp) former community organizer. In her victory speech last night, she said, "We welcome people of all races and colors, gay and straight, people of all abilities, people from the youngest to the oldest."

You might think, given his "Don't Say Gay" legislation, that state Sen. Stacey Campfield might stay away from eateries on Gay Street, but no, yesterday he tried to have brunch at Bistro at the Bijou. We say "tried" because owner Martha Boggs told him to leave. "I didn't want his hate in my restaurant," Boggs said in a interview this morning. "I told him he wasn't welcome here. ... I feel like he's gone from being stupid to being dangerous, and I wanted to stand up to him."

Hitting downtown today and maybe Comics Exchange to find out what their policy on buying collections is. We'll probly wander thru the old section with all the cool Victorian architecture, too.

i've gotten really interested in pre-urban renewal/removal knoxville. some friends and i have been organizing monthly events/discussion groups/workshops called Understanding Place, exploring race, place, home, and the intersection of those ideas; gentrification, urban renewal, tenants rights, etc. the local history of grievances w/r/t those issues. councilman daniel brown (totally my bff) spoke at our last one, and i think the next one is going to be a "home training" workshop w/ 4mir4 in4s (do you know her?) and a first friday event at the birdhouse in march showing pictures of knoxville pre-UR. free + open to the public.
