xp yeah i don't remember that album at all, even thought it is sitting there next to my other westerbergs

i see a straight line from 16 blue through achin to be to runaway wind where paul is telling "me" that he "sees something in me that no one else sees." it's like another one of his stock songwriting themes. when i was lonely and younger i really liked hearing this. now i just hear the parts about covering up gray hairs.

i remember i saw him on this tour when i was in college and a roadie invited me on the tour bus and i almost went because hey i was 19 and why not but then i remembered that i was 19 and who knows what could happen to me.

paul westerberg roadies seemed not so savory. somewhere in my college crap is a poloroid of me and paul westerberg in a friendly embrace.

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

Heh, my high-school parties were not with high schoolers but with 'mats roadies. But they weren't unsavory as much as Wire-loving tech guys. One of them drove an old-school ambulance. They were how I thought grownups lived.

Eazy, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

i have a hangover headache and it's making me want to curb my drinking tonight.

Jordan, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. K. should do a new edit of his movie and call it Roadie, and it would just be footage of Ken V. loading and unloading his equipment.

Eazy, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

not going out tonite
;_;

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

hehehe that would be a very popular movie

maybe i would have had a perfectly nice time on that tourbus, then. all they told me was that they had "15 cases of beer" and i was like uhhhhhhhh i don't need 15 cases of beer and a bunch of dudes i've never met to be closed up on a bus with me but thanks.

They were how I thought grownups lived.
adorable

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

they had 'sheriff' available for rent at a random video store i wandered into in asheville

n/a, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

n/a, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

Do you think the mail will come today?

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

The mail will come today, I think. I think it's like Christmas Eve Day.

Eazy, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about paying $100 to go to a bar with a bunch of strangers, but paying $5 to go to a bar rented out by friends, where we control the music, is usually a lot of fun.

jaymc, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

That Boundary bar near our house had signs out that NYE packages were $125/pp AND there were additional fees if you wanted to sit down (smallest being $100 for a table for 2).

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

(Not that we were considering that)

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

That Boundary bar near our house...

of all the jerkstores on the stretch of division between western and ashland (and there are a LOT of them), that one looks like the jerkiest. have you ever walked past that place at night and seen the clientele? unbelievable.

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe once? I tend to walk by in the daytime when it's completely vacant, yet still horribly unattractive.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

I think they should rename it HUGE TVS and some Drinks.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

To be fair, I've never been inside.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

Why be fair though?

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

it's $25 at our show tonight, incl. food.

Jordan, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

i used to walk by there all the time when i got off the train at division, it used to be a garage that specialized in european sports cars. lots of old saab's and mgb's and mercedes benz sl's. plus they always seemed to have at least one kharmen ghia for sale at the shell station on the corner. then one day it was boarded up and two weeks later it was a bar.

i also walked by that jun bar place at like 9 o'clock last week and counted exactly zero people in there other than what appeared to be a server and a bartender.

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

er, that was exposted to sarah.

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

I prefer kissing strangers at midnight at bars on a random Monday night.

I'm open to sports bars and Barleycorns, but that Boundary, especially in that particular location is a monstrosity.

Then again, I ate at Charlie's Ale House for the first time last night (not fully my idea). Not bad. Lots of little rooms, so not very noisy. Hopleaf had an hour wait and the front bar was packed.

Eazy, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

That's what I'm talking about! (to Jordan)

K- I NEVER see anyone at jun. I'm surprised they haven't closed yet.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

K- I NEVER see anyone at jun. I'm surprised they haven't closed yet.

same here.

last year i kissed a dog at midnight. who knows what this year will bring.

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

maybe i'll go to jun bar for nye.

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

I doubt they allow dogs.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

we should adopt jun bar and make it the new thirsty thursday location of choice

n/a, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

only on $5 martini days

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Today's Not Half Bad award goes to these old graham crackers I found in my desk.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

it looks pretty swanky but then they always have espn on those giant tvs which screams "sports bar" to me. what the fuck are they trying to do with that spot?

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe that's why they don't have any customers.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

they should have a bunch of house dogs there of varying sizes, that could be their schtick.

"you come here to pet, we pay for the vet"

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

like a bar/petting zoo

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

That would win me over.

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

i would be drunk on puppies.

chicago kevin, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

There's an indoor dog park near the Beat Kitchen that has things like Super Bowl parties and Friday night fun. I don't know if they are BYOB.

Eazy, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

So here's a funny story. Kr and I went to Su-Ra for dinner on Friday night. It was just OK. The scallion pancake was way too salty, and the bi bim bop arrived kind of lukewarm. For upscale, Americanized Korean food, I still prefer Jin Ju.

Anyway, the next day we decided to heat up the leftovers. I'd put our doggie bag on the top shelf of the refrigerator, but there was another container of leftovers on the second shelf. I didn't remember taking it out of the bag, and it did strike me as kind of weird that our leftovers were put into three separate packages (two plastic and one styrofoam), but it unmistakably looked like our food, so I took it out, too.

Since it was all bi bim bop, we decided to mix it all together in a large bowl to reheat it. At some point while eating it, I encountered a bit of brownish-gray food that Kr told me was definitely not a mushroom. Slowly, it occurred to me that the separate container wasn't our food at all. At first I was kind of grossed out at the thought that they had packaged someone else's beef bi bim bop along with our stuff, and then I realized what had happened.

I called my brother, who had crashed at my place on Thursday night, and asked him if he had put some leftovers in the fridge. He said he had. By sheer coincidence (since he had gotten to my place late and didn't tell me where he'd been), he had gone to the EXACT SAME RESTAURANT that we went to and gotten almost the exact same dish. Weird, huh?

jaymc, Monday, 31 December 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

weeeiiiirrrrdddd

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

ps i have jury duty on that day! well, maybe. i got a notice and i have to call to find out.

La Lechera, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

i've chosen pubs based on their having dogs, and have actually gone out of my way to go to one pub that has no other exciting features other than a dog.

i might be up for TT this week

colette, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I talked to Jenny about this, but I think Kr and I are going to host a GAME NIGHT on Saturday night, prompted by Courtney's recent acquisition of a game called Catchphrase and my recent acquisition of Pictionary, from my mom's basement. All y'all are invited. We've got some other games, too.

jaymc, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

Ooh ooh, we just got Taboo!

KitCat, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

We've got Taboo, too. I wonder if they've updated it in any way since the edition we have (made in 1989 or thereabouts).

jaymc, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

I've been spearheading an Eat Poop U Cat/Telephone Pictionary renaissance lately.
