We still don't have a proper reason for him refusing to pay the tax fine. I was left with the impression that he was very much hiding something when he wouldn't take the cheque (i.e. not just blackmail, not just looking after his family), so it'd be nice for us to find out somehow what that's all about.
― Autumn Almanac, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:05 (fourteen years ago)
i wondered about that possibility aswell.

― When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Monday, 26 September 2011 21:19 (fourteen years ago)
This episode was just ridiculously good. I honestly think this is now the most exciting TV I have ever seen.
But what an inconvenient time for Gus's main enforcer to be in medical care in Mexico. I don't think he's in a position to follow through on his threat, especially if a load of his dudes walk into a DEA trap and get shot/arrested. Assuming he can't stick his own head up above the parapet, because he'll get caught, the only person left is... Jesse. Oh shit.
Also I think Gus knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he paraded Jesse in front of Hector going "this guy killed your last remaining relative". If there are still more bad Mexican drug dudes out there that Hector can call upon, then Gus has something he can hold over Jesse.
Ted is, literally, too stupid to live. Did it not occur to him that if he didn't pay the fine he'd have no business, a load of bank debt AND be in prison? "Well, if I pay it I'll still have loads of debt and no business so what's the point?" is such idiocy. But he's probably not dead, and the very first thing Walt & Skylar will do is go round there.
― Matt DC, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:35 (fourteen years ago)
Do people really think he's not dead? I thought the twitch sort of confirmed the neck breakage.
― Rory's new misogynist car (Gukbe), Monday, 26 September 2011 21:36 (fourteen years ago)
That and the scene in Saul's office afterwards, of course.
So can we agree that Hank definitely knows about Walt's involvement now, and that he's just going after evidence to confirm what he already knows?
Also, I'm wondering what would happen if Jesse had to choose between Mr White's life and the lives of Gus, Mike, et al. If it became clear that Walt and his family were about to be murdered, would he make a move to stop it? And doesn't he still have the ricin capsule?

Ted's alive and Walt will kill him by turning him from his side to his back while he sleeps.
― I DIED, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:47 (fourteen years ago)
Okay so let's say Ted's dead, his cheque makes it to internal revenue and Skyler's off the hook. That last point won't matter if Walt "disappears" her, and if indeed the tax cheque is paid and everything is well in Ted land then that whole subplot may as well have not happened (Walt's "OHHH NOOO" moment with the lack of cash could have been contrived any number of simple ways). No. I think there's one last thing to be revealed about Ted. He was hiding something big.
― Autumn Almanac, Monday, 26 September 2011 21:47 (fourteen years ago)
hank knowing about walt would be a rubbish reveal
― conrad, Monday, 26 September 2011 22:06 (fourteen years ago)
xp I dunno, given all that has happened thus far, the whole 'Skyler gives Ted the money' subplot seems like a neat way of getting that money spent without Walt's knowledge. Plus as was said upthread, this now means that Skyler has blood on her hands (sort of).
I think Ted has served his purpose, there is enough crazy shit going on without the writers then dropping the bombshell that oh my god Beneke's was owned by Madrigal and Ted was Gus's boss/lover or whatever.
― peligro, Monday, 26 September 2011 22:12 (fourteen years ago)
The one thing I can't get past is Skyler asking Ted if it was blackmail and Ted insisting it wasn't. His response doesn't check out at all for me. There wasn't even a quick pause or eye movement to indicate he was lying.
Then again, it's not out of character for this show to build up something and then drop it with some sudden death.
― Autumn Almanac, Monday, 26 September 2011 22:22 (fourteen years ago)
he was blackmailing tho...that's why he didn't take the cash i reckon, cos he thought he'd get more. seems the only sensible reason. and his own reasoning wasn't entirely wrong, why take just enough to leave him bankrupt when he can see what happens if he doesn't take it. he just had no idea there was gonna be criminal thugs calling around 5 mins later.
― When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Monday, 26 September 2011 22:31 (fourteen years ago)
yep
death was extra funny because where did he think he was going
― conrad, Monday, 26 September 2011 22:35 (fourteen years ago)
he was blackmailing tho...that's why he didn't take the cash i reckon
That would make sense and wrap up the plot reasonably neatly, but (a) he could have just said "yes I'm blackmailing you" but didn't, (b) why would he try running from the thugs after signing the cheque and (c) with Ted dead without consequence that's a hell of a lot of subplot to indulge in just to leave Walt in the lurch in episode 11.
― Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Monday, 26 September 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)
(a) he was being wily in a dumb ted way (b) he was being courageous in a dumb ted way (c) so

ted's death was hilar & one of the best parts of the season. the foreshadowing where he trips over the rug earlier was so good -- i was like, haha what a funny detail to include to show how inept he is, then it turned out it was even ~more~
and yeah he was obv blackmailing skyler! how do u miss that
― sorry for party blogging (D-40), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 01:58 (fourteen years ago)
Ted, being stupid and sleazy, was trying his best to couch it as anything but blackmail. And totes, when he tripped over the rug the first time, my thought was, hmm, what an odd detail.
But if you're a tax scofflaw and you suddenly come up with $600K cash to pay of you debt, won't the IRS look into the source of that money?
Great episode. How will they keep this up? This is like the last third of "GoodFellas," except they have to stretch it out the rest of the season and the final season, too. Unless this is secretly the final season.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 02:00 (fourteen years ago)
i will admit im in the minority who could see them killing walter before jesse at this point
i dont think they'll do either, though
are we maybe witnessing a swing of sympathy TOWARDS Walter and away from Gus -- obv at some level the past several episodes have you cheering for the disciplined underdog w/ Gus vs. cartel .... mike & jesse on his team ... while walter flails embarrassingly. but now ... if gus is going to kill hank and walt is really concerned about this our sympathies could easily & radically swing back towards walt imo
― sorry for party blogging (D-40), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 02:03 (fourteen years ago)
the foreshadowing where he trips over the rug earlier was so good -- i was like, haha what a funny detail to include to show how inept he is, then it turned out it was even ~more~
Ted tripping over the rug was obviously a setup for a later incident, how do u miss that
Also I never said it definitely wasn't blackmail, I'm asking the question because a couple of circumstances surrounding it don't fit neatly imo, and this series in particular has been so tightly controlled that nothing ever doesn't fit neatly.
― Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 02:04 (fourteen years ago)
its easy to think that him tripping over the rug was just a show-dont-tell way of underlining that hes an inept bumbling idiot
