Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is preparing to make a shock move for Manchester United striker Michael Owen, according to reports in Caughtoffside.com
Still one more important injury left in his career.

When Fergie's complaining about the influence of TV, what he actually means is "we should be paid more money". He knows full well that if United could engineer an international rights deal similar to the one Barca or Real have then United would be sitting pretty.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 27 September 2011 12:36 (fourteen years ago)

that's a stretch

didn't he actually say that the distribution was fair?

actually, having just checked it he does sort of contradict himself on that issue.

Mancini is alleged to have told Tevez he could “f***off back to Argentina” after the former City skipper defied his boss by refusing to come off the bench in Tuesday's Champions League group game.

City boss Mancini is also understood to have directed a similar volley of abuse at Edin Dzeko, telling him to “f*** off back to Bosnia,” after he reacted angrily to being subbed in the 2-0 defeat.

Would be hilarious if Mancini got the sack for this.

This would never have happened under Garry Cook.

You might think ED jests but not once in Cook's reign as chief executive did a high-profile striker decide he didn't want to play in a showpiece Champions League match. It never happened.

because this is their first time in the cl?

Every time Tevez does something objectively indefensible something ends up making me feel sorry for him, like this picture.

Unbelievable:

Sir Alex is fully behind his star signing. He said of de Gea earlier this month: "He's 20 years of age and doesn't know the culture of the country.

"That's a lot to deal with but he has shown great composure about the whole thing.

"He's not got himself flapping about the goalmouth. I think he's absolutely outstanding. The boy is tremendous."

Former Aston Villa Manager David O'Leary: Jose Mourinho Rates Me

David O'Leary, the former Arsenal defender who went on to enjoy success as a manager with Leeds United and Aston Villa, has revealed that Inter boss Jose Mourinho is a significant ally in his search for a return to management.

O'Leary has stated that he is keen to make a return to top-level management as soon as possible, and Mourinho might be only to happy to provide him with a reference."I’ve had requests to go back into football and it’s not me bigging myself up or thinking I deserve a bigger job but I just felt that the jobs weren’t right in any way," the Irishman explained to The Daily Mail.

"I’ve had lots of offers mainly from abroad and I think that can only come from people remembering Leeds in the Champions League.

"Some with loads and loads of dollars. Jose Mourinho was very good and recommended me for a really big job but I just felt I couldn’t live where it was with the family really. That was about six or seven months ago.

"We’re not friends but Jose has always kind of rated me if you know what I mean. He was asked a question to recommend somebody for something or put them up and I was very grateful that he did it.

"When I thanked him he said, 'David, I wasn’t doing you a favour even though I like you, it’s because I rate you' and that’s his attitude.

‘I saw (Fabio) Capello at the soccer writers’ function the other week and he came down from the top table and said 'when are you bloody getting back in the game'?

"It was nice getting that from Capello. A lot of them know that you’re too good to be out of it. That’s not me trying to big myself up. People in the game know how difficult Doug Ellis and Aston Villa was."

Some with loads and loads of dollars

Come on, who talks like this? You don't say "I'm going to the cashpoint to take out some pounds", do you?

Jose Mourinho was very good and recommended me for a really big job but I just felt I couldn’t live where it was with the family really.

ha, would love to know where this was - Jan Mayen FC or Kerguelen national team boss, I'm thinking

Terek Grozny, maybe.

Did he have any excuses for being shockingly poor as manager of Al-Ahli?

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Friday, 30 September 2011 09:31 (fourteen years ago)

Get the feeling Jose wrote a letter recommending O'Leary for an assistant manager's job with Tony at Gabala, but Tony would only talk to his dog.

Arsenal financial guff shows overall level of group net debt reduced by £40mn-odd despite less property revenue.

SELF-SUSTAINING MODEL, WHOOOOOAHHH

James Mitchell, Friday, 30 September 2011 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

The Group's property business continues to be debt free and generating surplus cash for the Group. The overall level of Group net debt had been reduced to £97.8 million (2010 - £135.6 million) at the balance sheet date.

so we are only about 3 or 4 years away from paying off the debt? In which we'll be looking at 40m more than now a season to throw around the team? :D

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 30 September 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

oh wait, we still made money off the property stuff, just not as much.

Arsenal also don't smoke, drink, or take drugs, and believe in the value of having a good breakfast. Never put off til tomorrow what you can do today!

Matt DC, Friday, 30 September 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

In a few years' time the club will probably have to spend that extra £40mn a season on bailing out the failed NAMING RIGHTS supermarket development up the road.
