Goal + assist + straight red all within 45'.

oh dear. did he deserve any of it?

this is how BBC has it: "Fernando Torres, inexplicably, flies in two-footed, both off the floor and on the run at Mark Gower"

Bolton player goes down injured in their own area, Bolton furious when Arsenal play on. Ball immediately breaks to Bolton, they counter and get a shot on goal with player still down, then are *again* furious with Arsenal for playing on.

Prohibitively expensive due to cost of shirt letters.

RVP gets 100th goal.

Pathetic from Walcott, absolutely alone and doesn't think he can round the GK, weak fucking shot.

Valencia at right-back again. Hmm.

Yeah, Evans got injured in the warm-up. Ferdinand/Jones is a rock solid central partnership though

I've seen em given

Number None, Saturday, 24 September 2011 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

Couple of superb saves from De Gea, great goal from Nani, and Phil Jones' runs from the back are a thing of wonder. Michael Owen can fuck off though

Number None, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

We were awful, but Lucas was a hero, Suarez was magic, and Enrique was solid. Carragher remains the elephant in the room - if it was ever in doubt then hopefully Pepe having a go at him in the 2nd half will wake a few people up to the fact that he's a liability.

Chris, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:29 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty dire second half performance but Stoke do make it bloody difficult. Decent point in the end.

Number None, Saturday, 24 September 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Torres had a couple of tackles recently that could have ended badly for him.

At least he's trying. I may have to review my opinion of him if he keeps this up.

Chelsea have an incredibly strong squad at the moment: that's as good a bench as I've seen for years and no Alex or Sturridge.

22 Turnbull, 04 David Luiz, 08 Lampard, 15 Malouda, 20 McEachran, 11 Drogba, 21 Kalou

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Saturday, 24 September 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno. Malouda and Kalou are pretty crap and Drogba and Lampard are past it.

Number None, Saturday, 24 September 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

Eye thought Torres did so much that was excellent last week, though you can't exactly say he had a good game when it was so overshadowed by the unspeakable. He did at least look a lot like the guy that was so great at Liverpool for the most part.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 24 September 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Torres was, in all seriousness, superb last week. He lost Jones time and time again, and that lad is meant to be the best player in the world since Gareth Bale or something. I'm starting to warm to the bloke, and the red card actually helps cos it's so endearingly stupid.

isn't house rubbish and Pete W mental (Pete W), Saturday, 24 September 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

Do you see a title challenge emerging Pete? I've thought it'll take time to click, but the way you played in general last week suggested that might be pretty close (notwithstanding that Utd battered you in terms of, y'know, actually going about winning). Also, what do you reckon about Lampard and Drogba in this new era?

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 24 September 2011 19:42 (fourteen years ago)

From what I've seen so far, I think we'll finish above United but I think City will win the league. But that's assuming no awful injury crisis for any of the top three, nor Roman sacking a key member of staff on a whim. I don't think there's much between the three at all.

Lampard and Drogba will be needed - it's a long season with lots of games, and they have experience and nous. Drogba definitely has more goals and games in him, just have to be more selective when used - he'd have been great to bring off the bench at Old Trafford.

And while Lampard can slow the game down, he's also our best player at keeping possession and I think/hope a place/role can be found for him. He's an adaptable, intelligent player and will probably just drop deeper - he can do a better job than Meireles for those games when we don't need a specialist DM but just somebody to keep the ball moving. He played very well against Fulham.

Mata is probably the most important signing Chelsea have made for years. If he gets injured, maybe we go back to Lampard and Drogba. But I don't see us starting with all three of Mikel-Lampard-Malouda if AVB can possibly help it.

Anyone know a live football radio program streaming on the internet? I have to do some chores and can't watch but would like to catch up with what I'm missing & analysis of the earlier games.

Am I right in thinking Arsenal are the only English side that do the Bundesliga thing where the stadium announcer says the goalscorer's first name, then the crowd shouts their surname?

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 24 September 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

no one else would tolerate it

Number None, Saturday, 24 September 2011 22:42 (fourteen years ago)

What on earth can you have seen so far to suggest Chelsea will finish above United? Although teams that come screaming out of the blocks never seem to win the league.

I remember watching them announce the team prematch once in which both times they said Alexander the fans shouted Hleb. Poor Song, having to play in front of these horrible excuses for fans.

Villa are painful to watch. Quite liking QPR though

Number None, Sunday, 25 September 2011 15:54 (fourteen years ago)

The Celtic announcer occasionally attempts those callback team lists, usually for Big European Nights. It's funny listening to how the level of response corresponds to the popularity/bombscareicity of the player.

Richard Dunne has broken Carragher's og record by the way.

Matt DC, Sunday, 25 September 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

QPR deserved something out of the game but until Bent gets back and QPR can go shopping again, both teams look like they're going to struggle to get goals.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Sunday, 25 September 2011 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

That og was really harsh on Dunne though. Just after Neville had given him man of the match too.

Number None, Sunday, 25 September 2011 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Villa - still undefeated, and falling down the table. The QPR comeback was inevitable and sadly, true to form for Villa for years and years now. So frustrating.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 25 September 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

God, McLeish has turned Villa into Birmingham. Dirty, clumping sods. Shame.

Armand Traore, what a shit cunt:

"I just thought he was a disgrace," said Warnock. "I will fine him as much as I possibly can.

"I told him to his face 'you've let me down and you've let the team down'."

Traore dived into the challenge in an attempt to regain possession with QPR chasing the game, but Warnock was less than happy with his summer signing's actions.

The QPR boss added: "As an opposition player when you are winning 1-0 away from home, that is what you want. I just think he was a bit thick and naive.

"I said to him 'when we're playing at Fulham next week what are you going to be doing?' But he is learning. He is a good player and will be an even better one after that."
