in the big picture you have to remember that days like this are fucking awesome and the sour tint of the stupid world outside just adds some zing to the flavour

― Dios mio! This kid is FUN to hit! (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 8 October 2011 10:41 (fourteen years ago)
are there people in cottingham that are trying to maintain the pretence of a village aesthetic through support for or possible engagement themselves in trade of expensive local artisan goods etc?
― at-zing-two-boards (darraghmac), Saturday, 8 October 2011 10:49 (fourteen years ago)
lol yeah but surprisingly few. there used to be an awesome shoe shop that had nothing but jackie collinsesque blinging gold in the window tho

it's a question of extent i suppose, no harm in it as long as you don't actually expect every stableboy to be a hung poet bodybuilder who likes em big.

A primary school teacher has been suspended after allegedly labelling locals as "thick" and "inbred" on Facebook, according to Sky sources.
The female teacher at Westcott Primary School in Hull is reported to have posted the statements during an online conversation with other members of staff.
When one of them said he was in town and fed up with bumping into children, the teacher apparently responded: "do you mean top end of holderness road?
"that's bout as far as anyone in east hull goes! no wonder everyone is thick...inbreeding must damage brain development."
Hull Council has launched an investigation and the chair of the governors Mary Wallace has written to parents to offer them a "sincere apology".

― nakhchivan, Thursday, 13 October 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)
heard about it last night. uncharitable people might suggest that the teachers' position at that school is a bit untenable now.
but y'know shock horror middle class teachers consider themselves above the families they work with etc

THERE died a myriad,And of the best, among them,For an old bitch gone in the teeth,For a botched civilization,
Charm, smiling at the good mouth,Quick eyes gone under earth's lid,
For two gross of broken statues,For a few thousand battered books.

Oh mother my mouth is full of starsAs cartridges in the trayMy blood is a twin-branched scarlet treeAnd it runs all runs away;Oh cooks to the galley is sounded offAnd the lads are down in the messBut I lie down by the forward gunWith a bullet in my breast.Don’t send me a parcel at Christmas timeOf socks and nutty and wineAnd don’t depend on a long week-endBy the Great Western line.Farewell Aggie-Weston. The barracks at Guz,Hang my tiddley suit on the doorI’m sewn up neat in a canvas sheet,And I shan’t be home no more.
