Facebook Music is launching tomorrow. This, everyone knows. But not everyone knows exactly how it will work, since Facebook been tweaking things right up until launch. But tonight one Facebook employee accidentally revealed one killer feature of the service.

Ji Lee, the creative director that Facebook stole away from Google in April, sent out the following tweet earlier:

The “Listen with your friend” feature in ticker is blowing my mind. Listen to what your friends are listening. LIVE.

Within minutes, Lee deleted the tweet, but not before Mitchell Holder grabbed a screenshot.

I've still not received a download archive of my identity.

just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:03 (fourteen years ago)

Wow its been hours now, right? Blimey. I dont think my data allowance can cop that.

Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:38 (fourteen years ago)

That's overnight. I requested it late last night, now late the following morning here...

just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:42 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah ok thats too much hassle for me, especially if thats a steady flow of data :/ I get free internet from work, I dont wanna take the piss :(

Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:47 (fourteen years ago)

Turns out the download was ready, but there wasn't a notification. I assumed that I'd get an email or message or such to tell me.

I just returned to the 'Account Settings' and there was a download link - 59MB of gubbins.

just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:52 (fourteen years ago)

I did it a while back and it took a couple of hours. that was mainly b/c it downloaded copies of every photo I had ever uploaded, plus a video or two. I've deleted the archive now but IIRC it came through as a zip file which when unzipped had a single long text file of all my updates, plus the photos and videos as separate files. I seem to recall though that it only had the status updates, not the shares, links and whatnot.

It comes as a series of .html files and .jpg photos by the way, so you simply navigate the static, mainly bare text, pages in a browser. The full message history and the entirety of your own wall in an easily searchable format may be interesting/useful/depressing to some.

just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:54 (fourteen years ago)

there's also a third party app called "get old status" which does more or less the same thing

ban this sick stunt (anagram), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:55 (fourteen years ago)

Oh ok 59mb is nothing! I might play round with it on the weekend.

Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Thursday, 22 September 2011 09:55 (fourteen years ago)

My first ever status update, on April 2, 2007 at 22:35 was 'surviving'.

I was shamelessly miserable at that point it seems, given the follow ups over the next couple of months.

Well, I've not got much on Facebook to download.

I've put that many anecdotes on here (ILX), having that as a download would be cool.

I have seen what Facebook is launching on Thursday, and it’s going to change the world of social media. And while I won’t talk about the mind-boggling things Facebook will be launching, I will say this: if i tell you what it is it'll make my hyperbole sound even more ridiculous than it already does.

ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 September 2011 12:14 (fourteen years ago)

Does the archive have photos you were tagged in, uploaded by others? I would *LOVE* to get my hands on that without doing it manually (got tagged in a couple hundred wedding photos!)

I just found my youngest daughter's facebook page.

Apparently, she used to work for The Beatles, and now works for NASA.

Not bad for an eleven year old..

My 12 year-old son is currently employed as "Cleaner: gas station toilets - January 1955 to present" - his previous job was "selling cheap perfume in Burger King parking lot"

Guys obviously this facebook export thing will work perfectly with Diaspora and we'll all be able to migrate our accounts to it in a month or two!

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Thursday, 22 September 2011 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

Whiney G. Blutfarten (dayo), Thursday, 22 September 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

I wouldn't like that because I think diaspora is a huge clusterfuck and I don't need them to hold on to a bunch of data facebook previously had :)

Clearly the way to your first billion dollars is by forcing women who should be on maternity leave to co-host webcasts.
