laying down the law fot taraabt
'And I have heard Joey at training sessions say to Adel, "If you want to sulk do it while you’re running back. Don’t do it walking. And if I ask you to do something, do it".

mizzell, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

No, he can't. He's really a bit embarrassing. Not that you'd know that from QPR fans on messageboards, who are viewing him as a speaker of truth to power. Which I think is how he wants to be viewed, rather than as a troll. The Taarabt thing is funny though.

I just want the captain of the Rangers to have a little bit more dignity. Like Shaun Derry.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:56 (fourteen years ago)

yes, he's more dignified a captain than taarabt to be fair.

not exactly a paragon of corinthian values but taken with a pinch of salt i can't help but quite like the lad so far tbh. he's certainly brought the squad together.

Karl Henry is a cracking person who is a million times the person Barton will ever be. Karl Henry may talk a lot to the press and through the club but none of what comes out of his mouth is ever "i'm a big time charlie" this or "i earn 80k a week" that. He is an honest bloke who would run himself into the ground for this club. I don't think he has ever professed to being a gifted footballer and probably never will.

http://www.molineuxmix.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=63512

and if we're really talking embarrassing...

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

Henry is pish, obviously. The talking to the press thing is weird tho, I get the feeling it's mainly because the Express and Star is a Wolverhampton-based newspaper with a big circulation for a local daily, and they have to put something on the sports pages every night. Don't particularly blame Henry for being the club's designated platitude-spouter.

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

and y'know, if Joey's main hobby is acting the cunt then you've really got to expect some people to rise to it

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

Acting?

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

I guess I admire his drive but he's remarkably stupid, even for a footballer.

What does one wear to a summery execution? Linen? (Michael White), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think Joey's stupid for a footballer, but he probably thinks he's smarter than the average, which can be a really bad look

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:50 (fourteen years ago)

He listens to The Smiths iirc

In addition to an autobiography, "Heading for Victory", Bruce has published three novels, "Sweeper!", "Defender!" and "Striker!", featuring the exploits of fictional footballer manager Steve Barnes. "Sweeper!" was described as "surprisingly punchy and pacey, although the plot is essentially ludicrous".[170

Hargreaves claims United treated him like a 'guinea pig'

Was just reading that - huge stuff

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 22 September 2011 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

He said this a few months ago: 'The guys were great, too. It's a wonderful club. The people behind the scenes are terrific. Some of the guys on the medical staff have become great friends. At one stage I did offer to play for nothing this season, just to stay on. But they said, "You don't want to do that" and they were probably right.'

"As regards our personal ambitions for the Club they remain as they've been from the beginning: to manage the club for growth. More precisely, our focus is to manage the investments we've made at Villa Park to promote strong financial performance in terms of our commercial activities in order that the Clubs revenue can grow and contribute accordingly to player, manager and other football related wages and costs. This approach is at the core of our broader strategy to create an enduring business model that is stable and yet has the potential to grow, as we feel that the club revenue and player wages are the key to consistent competitiveness. In connection with this strategy, we have targeted being at or within range of a top 20 ranking among clubs in Europe by revenue, which was achieved in the last Deloitte Football report."

It does strike me as weird that these perma-injured footballers like Hargreaves and Woodgate suddenly move to a new club a new physio setup and suddenly start being able to start games again.

Matt DC, Friday, 23 September 2011 10:54 (fourteen years ago)

But Hargreaves declared himself fit before he went to City.

Number None, Friday, 23 September 2011 11:04 (fourteen years ago)

what d'you think matt- physio problems at the previous club or player motivated at new club or a blend or something else?

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Friday, 23 September 2011 11:09 (fourteen years ago)

Mental problems

Number None, Friday, 23 September 2011 11:13 (fourteen years ago)

Bit of both maybe. I don't think "motivation" alone is going to get you over a chronic injury but yeah a fresh physio approach probably helps. A lot of luck too.

This might be bullshit and both Woodgate and Hargreaves may just break down again in the next game, of course.

Matt DC, Friday, 23 September 2011 11:15 (fourteen years ago)

i'm going on that assumption alright.

Pay-per-play deal can't hurt tbh

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Friday, 23 September 2011 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

Did City contract Hargreaves just to troll United?

'Main Shop of Love' Gigolo (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 23 September 2011 11:39 (fourteen years ago)

big club with a troll mentality

44.9 percent indie rock individualist (onimo), Friday, 23 September 2011 11:40 (fourteen years ago)

"Nyah we've got this always injured guy you don't want who never played for you" is pretty weak trolling.

Matt DC, Friday, 23 September 2011 11:45 (fourteen years ago)

I'd like to believe City were just trolling but apparently Mancini was told he could only sign players on loan or frees after getting Aguero and he wanted some backup in midfield.

Number None, Friday, 23 September 2011 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

Ahhh see I didn't know that, makes sense

'Main Shop of Love' Gigolo (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 23 September 2011 11:49 (fourteen years ago)

That would explain why he's whining about not having enough players, with a straight face.

With Hargreaves some of the experts, like Richard Stearman for example, just put it down to Fergie being a total cunt.

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Friday, 23 September 2011 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

doesnt really explain the straight face tbh i mean there are teams in this league have to field the likes of crouch, jenas or hutton.

This post-Arteta Everton look like Sevilla before they lost Dani Alves, trying to run their whole offense through a full-back.
