wtf is harry playing at with levy/modric?

was convinced during transfer saga that 'Arry's "He should go, I don't think he shd stay at Spurs" was a bit of dressing-room gamesmanship. If he didn't go, he didn't want to have alienated Modric. Same here. In private to Levy he'll be all "I quite understand if you don't want to pay him that, but I can't have him thinking that I think that." Hence odd public avowals where he sounds more like Luka's agent than manager. Or maybe he gets a cut or something idk.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Monday, 19 September 2011 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

one possible angle, yeah

alternatively, he's already putting pressure on for jan window, or moving to get excuses in early. Tho tbh i don't see how this does either of those things.

See, i don't think modric is gonna kick up between now and jan/summer, and he was as good over 90 mins against liverpool as i've seen him. Taking into account that he'll surely go within the timeframe of his current contract, i just don't know what's to be gained by harry constantly stirring this.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Monday, 19 September 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

looking forward to st. arsenaleringham's day this season

maxmombuffsnads (cozen), Monday, 19 September 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

it will be a sad day i may wear a black armband

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 19 September 2011 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

now arry's havin a go about how he wanted to keep woodgate. maybe the press are the only friends he has who will listen to his problems

mizzell, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 03:28 (fourteen years ago)

Harry might want to put Modric in a higher pay band in order to lift the ceiling on wages that stops Spurs attracting bigger-name players.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 07:39 (fourteen years ago)

maybe.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

not convinced it's a manager's place to get into the way a club's finances are run, and obv that goes quintuple in Arry's case

Louis Jaha (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 08:07 (fourteen years ago)

goes w/out saying, hence applying pressure from outside like this as opposed to being let near levy

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 08:09 (fourteen years ago)

Also its 'Arry and he won't be there on this date next year

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 08:23 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, this is exactly it. Redknapp hates being in a financial straitjacket and is using Luka to stir the pot with his mates in the press to try and make that happen. He's also trying to keep Modric happy and look like he's on his side, because Levy is pretty dumb when it comes to that side of things.

On the other hand, OTM for wanting to keep Redknapp in that financial straitjacket given the state he's left other clubs. But I can see Redknapp's point when he says "you can't say he's worth more than £40m and then pay him the wages of a £10m player".

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 09:05 (fourteen years ago)

Levy OTM, even.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 09:06 (fourteen years ago)

they pay 10m pound players how much now?

You cannot pay a player less than the contract he signed 18 months ago or whenever. Stands for bently, stands for modric. Levy otm.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

Beasley and McGarry are embedded Sun journalists at Chelsea. Both spent all summer tactically placing the Modric stories when there was nothing to report.

Pay them no heed.

qpr fan who supposedly works for spurs mentioned this on a messageboard the other day, thought it might be of interest to youse lot for future reference

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 13:20 (fourteen years ago)

i am super hyped for the villa game next super sunday

decent test of how well nu-rangers can cope with a bit of pace and attacking competence; if we turn them over with anything like looking convincing then (besides injuries) i fear nothing outside the generally acknowledged top seven

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 13:27 (fourteen years ago)

even armand traore looks brill!

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

idk surely modric's claim that levy had promised he could leave was a legit quote?

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 13:53 (fourteen years ago)

c ron and cesc have codified the precedent here - 'wantaway' players will be kept for a year, mollified if possible and then be sold

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)

He doesn't want to be here, get rid.

Chris, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 13:59 (fourteen years ago)

I thinking getting rid of a player abroad (cesc and ronaldo) is different to getting rid to a rival in the same league. Think Spurs were right to keep him, why would they wanna strengthen Chelsea?

pandemic, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno. I mean we sold them Torres, so. Oh, hang on.

Chris, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

Levy is shrewd but also stubborn. He stuck to his word steadfastly and tbh I could see Modric stuck with us for another three years and just getting used to the idea.

If not, £40m will do.

Signing him to a new contract is nonsense tho.

mizzell, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

that pretty much covers the first three seasons up to the 2006 world cup, when ronaldo was several yrs younger than nani in the equivalent period

then he bulked up and became the ridiculously athletic and clinical (and kinda boring) forward he is today -- nani has improved in those aspects but he's not going to get to c-ron's level

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

completely different players though

Number None, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

completely tanned

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

It will obviously be difficult for Nani to get to Ronaldo's level considering C-Ron will go down as one of the best ever, but hopefully pundits can finally stop calling him "inconsistent" now.

Number None, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

consistently not as good as cr7

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

Better than Bale though

looking forward to seeing didier pogba tonight

maxmombuffsnads (cozen), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

He's not starting. Haven't seen the bench yet but the first eleven is pretty bizarre

Valencia at right back, Carrick central defence?

boxall, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

yup. four strikers :/

Amos, Valencia, Fryers, Carrick, Fabio, Giggs, Park, Macheda, Diouf, Owen, Berbatov.

Number None, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)

pogba on the bench

ezekiel fryers

maxmombuffsnads (cozen), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

Good grief, that line up looks surreal. What kind of formation is it supposed to be? This reminds me of that game against Arsenal (last season?) where we played seven defenders or something.

laying down the law fot taraabt
'And I have heard Joey at training sessions say to Adel, "If you want to sulk do it while you’re running back. Don’t do it walking. And if I ask you to do something, do it".

mizzell, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

No, he can't. He's really a bit embarrassing. Not that you'd know that from QPR fans on messageboards, who are viewing him as a speaker of truth to power. Which I think is how he wants to be viewed, rather than as a troll. The Taarabt thing is funny though.

I just want the captain of the Rangers to have a little bit more dignity. Like Shaun Derry.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:56 (fourteen years ago)

yes, he's more dignified a captain than taarabt to be fair.

not exactly a paragon of corinthian values but taken with a pinch of salt i can't help but quite like the lad so far tbh. he's certainly brought the squad together.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

Karl Henry is a cracking person who is a million times the person Barton will ever be. Karl Henry may talk a lot to the press and through the club but none of what comes out of his mouth is ever "i'm a big time charlie" this or "i earn 80k a week" that. He is an honest bloke who would run himself into the ground for this club. I don't think he has ever professed to being a gifted footballer and probably never will.

http://www.molineuxmix.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=63512

and if we're really talking embarrassing...
