wonder if that helps tbh - losing players to international players or even having them come in for a short while in these days of central contracts can seem quite disruptive.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

yeah settled team FTW, I suppose Durham in the last few years are an example of that.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

most one-sided tour by a top side in england since....?

aww man RIP Graham Dilley. One of my alltime favourite England cricketers.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/15185575.stm

Great swing bowler and underrated batsman. Who will ever forget his heroics at Headingley 1981 backing up Botham and finishing 50 n.o.

RIP

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

we were just talking about him at work. great bowler on his day (and of course his batting at Headingly as you say).

That dreadful phrase 'after a short illness' as well.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 13:36 (fourteen years ago)

That'll be cancer then?

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

i assume so.
he wasn't 50 n.o. obv btw botham was n.o.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

someone said on the other thread that sporting heroes from when you were young shouldnt die so soon is otm.

Guilty

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

'"The West just wants to destroy the image of Pakistan," says Zahim, a cricket fan eating at a restaurant outside Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.'

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

It's a shame, particularly for Amir who had enormous potential.

I can't really hold it against them, tbh. Cricket gambling in Pakistan is run by some of the most ruthless gangsters in the world. They might have been making stacks of money but the supposed alternative of simply saying 'no' is never going to be that easy.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Tuesday, 1 November 2011 17:53 (fourteen years ago)

Amir will be back, he's still young plus he admitted his guilt, I reckon he'll be around for a long time and play a lot of international cricket

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

Interesting scorecard from Newlands -

1st Innings - Australia 284 (of which Clarke got 151 - from 176 balls too, must have been an incredible innings). South Africa 96.

2nd Innings - Australia are currently 21-8.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:04 (fourteen years ago)

21-9 now.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

Something quite Victorian about that Australian 2nd innings score.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

We are amused

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

Genuinely amusing that Australia should still win the Test! Cricket, eh?

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

I know, especially now they're 41 for 9. Not entirely sure what's going on there. Apparently it's a seaming pitch. Well yes and.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

They've managed to avoid their lowest ever Test score

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:32 (fourteen years ago)

Smith and Rudolph going great guns on 5 and 1 respectively.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 10 November 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)

SA FTW I reckon.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 10 November 2011 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

Certainly looking that way at the moment. What a strange test.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

yeah 23 wickets in the day, I make that. SA need another 150ish to win, it looked like when the sun came out it was much easier.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

?!

What is it about cricket that produces these crazy passages, more than any other sport? I do wish my watching days weren't mostly over.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 10 November 2011 19:10 (fourteen years ago)

I love the collective psychosis that can seem to affect both sides sometimes, seeing demons in the pitch when there are none, or at least few.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 10 November 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

All four innings in a day.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Friday, 11 November 2011 09:56 (fourteen years ago)

Didn't Crowded House wrote a song about that? Andy Partridge should certainly consider doing so.

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Friday, 11 November 2011 09:59 (fourteen years ago)

8wk win for SA, despite conceding a 188 first innings lead and being bowled out for 97 in that first innings. Astonishing!

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Friday, 11 November 2011 10:39 (fourteen years ago)

the air of a private school headmaster that gets a bit too close to his favourite sporting lads

ah peter roebuck

gotta say though, I do like Roebuck's writing

Never liked his writing, too much provocation for the sake of it. Word from Australian friends was that he was thought of as a bit of a joke, but is now being hailed as the CLR James of his day. Weird.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Friday, 18 November 2011 10:12 (fourteen years ago)

"Weird" sums him up

Flower & Strauss out!

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 19 January 2012 09:45 (fourteen years ago)

LOL times like these you hope they go for some sort of record defeat stat. I note another great performance from England's Best Batsman, Kevin Pietersen.

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Thursday, 19 January 2012 09:49 (fourteen years ago)

some stat about "when England lose, they lose big" has been bandied around- I think last 3 defeats were innings defeats. I think they'll bounce back, but a lot depends on whether they can get their heads round playing Ajmal.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 19 January 2012 09:54 (fourteen years ago)

87-7

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Thursday, 19 January 2012 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

Swann double century. Come on Swanny!

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Thursday, 19 January 2012 11:50 (fourteen years ago)

... came up 161 runs short :(

Pakistan need 15 to win.

lol so they let Zimbabwe play test cricket again

with unsurprising results

Born To Meat Pie (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 28 January 2012 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

yes i saw that. only the fourth time a side has been bowled out twice in one day.

Fizzles, Saturday, 28 January 2012 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

68-7. So, only 80 runs needed from the bowlers then.

Aunt Acid and the Gaviscons (aldo), Saturday, 28 January 2012 11:54 (fourteen years ago)
