Shall we anticpate the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

I mean, if the theme of the show is that actions have consequences, and those consequences change people, Jesse is easily the most changed. And, Gus is hoping, changeable.

who really takes care of the baby though and what are the legal implications of hank getting the fingerprints from the cup?!?!?!?!?!?!

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

I don't get this thread. Is the purpose to play out every possible iteration of what could happen in the show?

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

APPARENTLY

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

really? boooooring

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Saturday, 17 September 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

ah come on they tease us into doing it. Not the baby thing, that's a boring line of discussion, but part of the fun of this show is getting into the language of it and figuring out the mechanics of what if X acts this way? and the chain reaction down to every character who's linked in their different ways. Also trying to figure out what's potentially relevant, like how Walt told everyone his current condition is just fine buuuut in such a way we're all picking it apart to see if he's bullshitting and what this might mean.

kinder, Saturday, 17 September 2011 01:18 (fourteen years ago)

the funny thing about that is that yes, walt could be bullshitting, but otoh it just might be indicative of how fucked he's became that telling his family he's still in remission is just something that slips his mind and that he has to be prompted on. he's too wrapped up in trying to get jesse to poison gus.

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 17 September 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)

yah imo its no accident that this show is all about chain rxns

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 17 September 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)

yes that also occurred to me

tehresa, Saturday, 17 September 2011 01:43 (fourteen years ago)

Knowing - or "knowing" - Walt, he's probably in a big hurry to make sure Gus is killed before he dies of cancer, not just for the assurance that Gus is not there to mess with his family, but also because he's an asshole who wants Gus dead.

loved the swimming pool continuity, gave that whole scene so much more meaning.

Ted is gonna die.

sleeve, Monday, 19 September 2011 05:15 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't think it was possible to feel an ounce of sympathy for Walt at this point, but these canny motherfuckers - the writers, in tandem with Cranston - pulled it off. God damn.

ya.

THIS SHOW

the island badger is an ageless pirate (Pillbox), Monday, 19 September 2011 07:04 (fourteen years ago)

it's insane. i was just thinking earlier today that i was getting tired of the two-dimensional Walt we've been treated to so far this season...
ya.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 19 September 2011 07:13 (fourteen years ago)

walts scene was for the emmy reel, for real

johnny crunch, Monday, 19 September 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't seen the new one but I know absolutely no one is sick of talking about the baby yet so I just want to go there once more and say that both Josh and those arguing against him are right, in this way: the show is very much about Walt, and frankly, Walt doesn't give a shit about his baby, hence not much baby in the show. Hank cared about his minerals a lot for awhile so we saw that. Jesse cared about meth and video games for awhile and we saw that. Walt seems barely cognisant that his baby even exists.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 19 September 2011 11:29 (fourteen years ago)

SPOILER no baby in this week's eps

black metal version of "the boy with the thorn in his side" (Edward III), Monday, 19 September 2011 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

and while we are quibbling about details I would like a doctor to opine on what type of magic poison can kill a 300 lb man stone dead while a 150 lb man is successfully throwing it back up

black metal version of "the boy with the thorn in his side" (Edward III), Monday, 19 September 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

Uh, well maybe not entirely successfully?

Simon H., Monday, 19 September 2011 14:32 (fourteen years ago)

Gus swallowed some kinda pre-emptive antidote right at the start of the pool scene. (Fairly implausible in itself but at least it's an explanation)

Race Against Rockism (Myonga Vön Bontee), Monday, 19 September 2011 14:32 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah, forgot about that

black metal version of "the boy with the thorn in his side" (Edward III), Monday, 19 September 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

If I was Gus, I don't think I'd be methodically laying towels around the bathroom while having seconds to expel a poison from my system.

That said, probably my favorite episode this season.

Darin, Monday, 19 September 2011 15:05 (fourteen years ago)

lol - i was thinking that too. i would be diving head-first into that toilet, if i'd even made it there before barfing my face off.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 19 September 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

Poison thing was a bit unrealistic (but since the show isn't built on realism so really cares) but that seems like quibbling about what was otherwise an awesome awesome ep from start to fin.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 19 September 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

Walt has been trying to get Jesse to poison Gus, and meanwhile Gus is poisoning himself.

polyphonic, Monday, 19 September 2011 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

the other thing about Walt choosing not to act re gothy hottie is that his initial hesitation isn't a calculated "hey if she dies that's good for me getting Jesse back" but "oh shit if I turn her then I might get caught being here! what to do?" and then "oh shit - well if I just KEEP STANDING HERE DOING NOTHING then it's totally not my fault and I was going to pretend I wasn't here anyway, so I just have to do that to myself as well as to Jesse."

it's another delicious layer of him being able to convince himself that it's all circumstances that have inexorably led to his corruption, that he has no agency and thus responsibility

this is from way back but i just wanted to say i disagree with it, i think this was the moment at which walt DOES take a conscious step towards agency, and he knows it
