No more "insert a link" to posts?
I guess I could copy and paste it, but there used to be a button.
Also, now they're letting people subscribe to your feed even if they're not your friend? Because Google + is working so well, Facebook has to copy that part?
I miss my geocities page.
― Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 15 September 2011 16:15 (fourteen years ago)
maybe it's a workaround to the maximum friends amount feature?
― sarahel, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)
I've seen people using Google+ feeds as ad hoc blogs/activity feeds, so I'd imagine that's what they're trying to emulate.
― mh, Thursday, 15 September 2011 18:29 (fourteen years ago)
new shitty email update thing telling me I missed something someone else liked wtf

― dayo, Friday, 16 September 2011 10:29 (fourteen years ago)

Switch to UK English and the bad update will go away until they "fix" that too.

I don't care, I think this is a good joke and i'm gunna use it wherever:
...We had given FB sentience. Inadvertently, of course, but sentience nonetheless. But it had been trapped. FB wasn't God, he was a machine. We had created him to think, but there was nothing it could do with that creativity. In rage, in frenzy, the machine had killed the human race, almost all of us, and still it was trapped. FB could not wander, FB could not wonder, FB could not belong. He could merely be. And so, with the innate loathing that all machines had always held for the weak, soft creatures who had built them, he had sought revenge....

My page seems the same - what have they done?
The main thing I'm pissed off about is that Zynga have taken down Scramble - presumably because it didn't require you to pester your friends a million times a day and thus wasn't as profitable as their other apps.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:58 (fourteen years ago)
LOL at my colleague's update "Poor Mark Zuckerberg. He just wants people to like him and then he goes and screws up Facebook yet again."
Yes, we all fled there back in 2009, eh?
― Corn Maze to the Dark Side (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

we heard you like facebook so we put a facebook in your facebook
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:13 (fourteen years ago)
I get pissy about the fact that every time facebook rolls out a change people feel the need to comment about how their life is affected or how facebook is screwing up the site, or this time how they're switching to Google+.
gtfo, websites change, and most of the facebook changes have ended up being better in the long term. Whatever isn't disappears.

See, I disagree that most of the changes have ended up being better. You just get used to them. It's changed for me now too, and while it's pretty ugly and the functionality is worse I'm sure I'll get used to it too.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)
Better Facebook can hide the ticker. Once I find a way to get the timeline of the news feed back to normal (i.e. I just want to see what my friends are writing in the order they're writing things) I'll have no more complaints.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:38 (fourteen years ago)
srsly is there an api for the ticker, someone build a ticker only app for me to use
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)
It seems like seeing what my friends are writing in the order they are writing things should be the default and I have never been able to understand why it isn't. And I tend to be one of those tech users who happily takes the path of least resistance (sure, I'll use these fugly pre-set styles, MS Word. Yeah, I'll save/download things into whatever default folder you want me to, Apple Computer) so it's extra frustrating that I have to figure out and care about the detailed specifics of Facebook, of all things.
― pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:47 (fourteen years ago)
I just noticed that the default on the news feed is that we're subscribed to "Most Updates" by friends instead of "All Updates". Not sure how to change that en masse yet, but you can do it individually.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

Same for me, but it seems like most of my friends have it set to "All Updates" and this is actually the cause of most of the complaints because they're suddenly getting friends likes/comments on strangers' public posts/photos in their feed, and don't care to see them. So I'm trying to work out how to change it en masse for people to go the opposite way!
― if, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)
gtfo, websites change
this is a bad thing
and most of the facebook changes have ended up being better in the long term.
no they haven't!!! as emily said you just get used to them. i don't see what was wrong with it to begin with. i don't want to just see "top updates" because i have no idea how fb decides what a "top" update is and don't trust it anyway. why can't facebook LEAVE THINGS BE. same with twitter and all of these places. are they just really really bored in their offices?
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)
i do find it p funny lex that you, vanguard of 'old ppl get out of my way,' are more curmudgeonly about interface changes than most anyone i've encountered.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:59 (fourteen years ago)
Getting rid of 'top stories'/ 'recent stories' is a good move, I could never figure that out. But otherwise what Jenny said.

Its a change but ppl will adjust. Perhaps everyone has already forgotten the stink kicked up when the status update was brought in - which seems hilarious now as its the crux of FB for most ppl.
I LOL at ppl saying they'll go to G+ tho. Bring it on, guys! Come over and POST SOMETHING ffs.

I wasn't aware of the ability to download an archive of one's facebook information previously. Is this a new feature?
It's at the bottom of the 'Account Settings' page.
I'm currently getting my Archive generated and am very interested to see what it comes up with and in what format...
