Maybe, but how much has he got readily available at short notice, rather than tied up in car wash/paying Hank's medical bills?
there are literal millions in vacuum bags under the floorboards in Skylar's house. the problem is going to be Ted asking questions about where the money came from if she gives it to him.
― challopian rubes (sic), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)
surely $650k outta nowhere doesn't exactly clear up accounting discrepancies
― conrad, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 13:50 (fourteen years ago)
No I think it does. Fines + back taxes. Incompetence, not criminality.
Anybody else get the sense that the "send Jesse to Mexico" plan is a load of horseshit?
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 13:56 (fourteen years ago)
Skyler telling Ted to sell the BMW and then cut to Ted starting up his Ford Festiva or whatever was pretty great.
Broke my heart when she told Walt they were making enough profit that he could quit his second job.
― pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 13:56 (fourteen years ago)
no, it was apparent the other week at the Cartel meeting that what they wanted was Walt. remember he was meant to go and work in their bunker in the jungle a couple of years ago, before Gus decided to cut the cartel out.
― challopian rubes (sic), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:06 (fourteen years ago)
well those dudes are going to be a little disappointed when X-Box McGee shows up
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:08 (fourteen years ago)
which surely Gus knows, as he also knows Jesse is going to come to Walt for help about this supposed plan
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:12 (fourteen years ago)
Xbox McGee!!!
― pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)
Even if Skyler gives Ted $650K, problem's not solved. Don't banks have to report large cash transactions? And he can't exactly go to the IRS with bricks of crisp fifties.
― Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:36 (fourteen years ago)
yeah one might say surely $650k outta nowhere doesn't exactly clear up accounting discrepancies

heh...yeah, sorry, conrad otm
― Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 14:49 (fourteen years ago)
On the other hand this is a world where people are stupid enough to fall for Skylar's airhead routine.

good morning Ted. how are you? listen, no big deal - but you forgot the put covers on those TPS reports... bitch.anyways, you'll get 'em next time.
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 03:41 (fourteen years ago)
Skyler was on some Melanie Griffith/"Working Girl" shit there. No way mere incompetence gets a dude out of a felony charge, though, especially if the investigation had progressed that far already. And there's double no way that just giving Ted the $650K would make the problem go away.
Still not sure of Gus's long game. Or. hell Walt's short game. He's going to end up penniless and dead. Hell, he's already managed to disappear his kids! Seriously, though, who's watching the fucking BABY?
Why did Mike have to liquidate random worker #3? Why couldn't they bury him in the desert or something? Why did he warrant fancy-pants waste disposal?
Anyway, good episode. Ratcheted things even tighter with ruthless efficiency.
Oh, and the reason Jesse is so likable, relatively speaking, is that his learning curve is leaving him smarter, or at least less prone to ignorant self-destruction, whereas Walt's is leaving him dumber and more fatalistic. What are the chances the show leaves Jesse last man standing, back working the streets? At the very least he needs to throw Badger a bone, at least for my sake. The Badger and Skinny Pete show is almost as funny as the Mike and Jesse show.

I hope they all die except holly. And the final season is just her and a string of wacky babysitters.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 04:06 (fourteen years ago)
i love that jesse still refers to walt - after everything they've been through - as "Mr White"
― just1n3, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 05:14 (fourteen years ago)
a body buried in the desert can be found, or uncovered by wind. Mike's a professional.
― challopian rubes (sic), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 06:33 (fourteen years ago)
walt's short game of killing gus is fucking suicidal - gus is the only thing standing between walt and the cartels
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 09:34 (fourteen years ago)
Walt doesn't know much about the cartel though. He still doesn't know that two twins showed up with an axe and were in his house about to kill him until Gus called them off.
This looks like a bad move on Gus's part actually, keeping Walt in the dark about it, he'd have Walt's loyalty then. I suppose he's already said he doesn't believe fear to be an effective motivator, but Walt's in a permanent state of fear already.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 09:43 (fourteen years ago)
Actually I'm trying to remember that face-off meeting between Walt and Gus in the last season. Gus didn't actually tell him that the cartel are out for his blood, did he? There was a lot of conjecture on Walt's part that just happened to get near the truth of the power struggle, but not the whole truth? I need to watch that scene again really.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 09:48 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, walt is right to be paranoid, but he's paranoid about the wrong people
i forgot that gus said fear isn't a motivator. the first episode seems like a, shall we say, U-turn on that policy
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 09:49 (fourteen years ago)
first ep of this season i mean
Gus probably knows that if he told Walt the whole story then Walt would try to leverage the cartel against him. That is, Walt, ever myopic, would side with the cartel just as a quick survival fix.
Anyway, this show is nothing if not about lack of communication and things left unspoken. Think of the countless secrets everyone's keeping from one another: Hank's secret pursuit of Gus, Walt's numerous schemes/infraction, the whereabouts of Holly/Walt Jr., Ted's tax problems, Marie's purple addiction, Skyler's secret plastic surgery, how a vat of viscous red liquid shipped off in a truck is less conspicuous than a random shot dude buried somewhere deep in the desert ...
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)
I just assume that Holly is with Marie and Walter Jr, being 16 years old, has a life that involves not hanging around with his parents that much.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:34 (fourteen years ago)
But, um, Marie works, doesn't she? (This is moot, btw; mystery baby is irrelevant, it just bugs me when shows add children for no good reason and then don't know how to deal with it - sort of like a lot of parents).
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)
kids raise themselves these days.
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 14:25 (fourteen years ago)
She'll be dealing meth soon enough.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 14:31 (fourteen years ago)
Breaking Bad would definitely be a much better show with the addition of ~ 15 min per episode of Skyler and Walt calling around for baby sitters, navigating day care waiting lists, researching nanny share programs, scrambling for car wash coverage because the day care closed early. I have no idea why they don't focus on that more.
― pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 15:26 (fourteen years ago)
The baby isn't there "for no good reason" - one of the reasons Walt panicked in S1 when he thought he was dying of cancer was because his wife was about to have a second child he wouldn't be there to provide for. There's just not much you can do with it now other than have it kidnapped or just turn up occasionally wearing an array of cute little hats.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah baffled by people caring where Holly is. She's either with a nanny or at baby-day-care-share. Who cares? It's not like WHO IS TAKING CARE OF THE BABY NOW is some central plot point.
