walt's a dick but he's scared for his life and his family and all that bullshit and has good reason to think jesse's been deceiving him because jesse has been deceiving him even if it turns out that jesse's been deceiving him for his or their own good or whatever and that walt's just making things more difficult or who knows

the idea that killing gus would just make their problems disappear seems a little naive. someone, the cartel probably, would take over the operation, and they'd still need cooks.

I do hope the show persists in punishing the viewer for forming alliances. Jesse isn't more ethical or nicer or more appealing than Walt, it's just that in that scene Walt's flaws are more prominent/offensive. The only character I'd cross the street to piss on if he were on fire is Badger
walt definitely worse than jesse imo. jesse is manipulated by others most of the time, his desperate need for approval/father fig has led him from walt to mike/gus. and the rest of the time he's a drug addict. he has no self worth whatsoever. he's not guilt free by any means but he is a victim quite frequently.
thought this ep was good, walt really has lost all ability to think of anyone but himself. the way he was railing at jesse about "one thing you had to do" etc just a short time after he asked him to murder an innocent dude in cold blood, an act which has basically fucked up jesse's mental state even more.
what's interesting is how the more walt tries to think of himself as some kind of criminal kingpin, the more petty, narcissistic and small he seems.

btw assume skyler is giving ted his 600k
such a great scene at the start of that episode really were he gives his fellow cancer sufferer the big talk about being in control of your life and the it cuts to him zipping up the suit in the lab. he's so full of shit.
yes, i think ted will end up killed tbh.

Damn, i thought the Walt/Jesse confrontation was really terrible. Badly acted and just cheesy. Up to that point i was willing to dismiss the episode as just another crap Skyler-centric episode but then they threw that in, and it was meant to be a big moment, and it just fell completely flat.
― Number None, Monday, 12 September 2011 22:06 (fourteen years ago)
dunno - I loved the 1-take mexico monologue that kicked off the whole last scene. Jesse so open and sincere - he felt sorry for not having already offered walt a seat - for the first time in a long time

season could really do with more Odenkirk
― Number None, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:56 (fourteen years ago)
ehh i like odenkirk generally but his character on this show is so lame, he's like comic relief that's too on the nose to even be funny imo
― some dude, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 00:59 (fourteen years ago)
I really liked his scene with that kid
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 01:01 (fourteen years ago)
Saul is kind of a lane caricature w/o any shading. He always feels to me like a one-off episode character they kept around because odenkirk was so much fun.

― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:23 (fourteen years ago)
I watched the episode where Jesse delivers his "Hank should suffer all his life" speech from his hospital bed tonight - also, remember what Jesse did to his family. (Not just his mom + dad - his brother lived there too.) Jesse is not a better person than Walt in any way, he's just moderately more likable.

What did he do to his family?
― you've got male (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:25 (fourteen years ago)
he bought their house below what they were asking for it iirc.
― balls, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:26 (fourteen years ago)
can't wait for 80s flashback where jesse conceives cdos at drexel burnham.

'yo mr. white these things got a aaa rating from moodys yo'
― balls, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
sorry
That was his aunts house that was a second home for them after they chucked him out for having the meth lab in it. So he did them out of some money, and was only able to do that because they were covering up the meth lab aspect in the sale.
― you've got male (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:30 (fourteen years ago)
tbf that's easily as bad as anything walt white has done
― balls, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 03:32 (fourteen years ago)
i might've gone w/ 'jesse is a murderer and meth cook/dealer - he is not a better person than walt white' myself, but 'jesse bought a house in a buyer's market', potato potahto.

― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 04:01 (fourteen years ago)
I like every episode of this series. This is just good good stuff, even if at least half of this one had me mystified at why they were showing so much puttering around at the carwash, so much slow, glacial manoeuvring, etc.
skylar was great for my money, jesse is getting more detailed as a character, mike was even great just being in the background for like five minutes.
― fields of salmon, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 04:33 (fourteen years ago)
Skylar's schtick was a+++I like how that storyline came back in with potentially diasterous consequences.
― kinder, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 05:43 (fourteen years ago)
haha there was one bit of Mike's dialogue to Jesse that was such pitch-perfect old-school hollywood tough talk, can't remember what it was now but it reminded me of the cop in Sweet Smell of Success who yells up to the Tony Curtis character - "Hey Sidney, come back! I wanna chastise ya!"

Not to Jesse, but when Mike told Walt if he called the cops on one of his guys again, he was going to need two barrels, I did a little fist pump yesssss on the couch.

I know he's never killed anyone and dissolved their body in acid or manufactured industrial strength quantities of highly addictive poison or ordered the murder of a child but seriously Ted is the worst human being in this.

A BIT rubbish?? The guy waits until the day before an audit that could land him in prison for the rest of his life to even seek out help..
When he called Sky a "carwash cashier" it was breathtaking. But I immediately sort of mentally rubbed my hands with glee wondering how she was going to make him pay.
