davies has always been a wrong'un. it's weird that he seems to have been playing for over a decade yet still looks like a 6 year old with gigantism

second only to popcorn (or something), Saturday, 10 September 2011 23:18 (fourteen years ago)

I'm probably the worst person to comment on Carragher after his "Being a squad player is not enough" interview in The Times this morning.

Chris, Saturday, 10 September 2011 23:46 (fourteen years ago)

Pleased for De Gea yesterday btw. Didn't have much to do but did it well and almost set up a goal

Number None, Sunday, 11 September 2011 09:09 (fourteen years ago)

D_DeGea David De Gea
Great match!! 0-5 against Bolton with an incredible play... we hope to keep going like this... Hugs to all

Aw

how long a contract did we give give carragher when he re-upped? 3 years? Surely not 4?

pandemic, Sunday, 11 September 2011 10:44 (fourteen years ago)

tenure iirc

How have Man United got so good so quickly? Compared to the dour shite they were mostly serving up last season, every single player seems to have just come screaming out of the blocks. Actually really annoyed about the Cleverly injury, hope it doesn't kill his momentum because England are sorely in need of really good passing midfielders.

Chelsea look like a slightly different proposition with Mata, Mereiles and Sturridge in there. They're picking up points without looking amazing and it's better to creep up slowly than explode into life and then go shite like they did last year. Reckon AVB doesn't know his best team yet but he'll get there.

Matt DC, Sunday, 11 September 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

God, Stoke fans must take absurd pleasure when they see things like their entire defence suicidally flinging themselves in front of five Jordan Henderson shots in a row.

Matt DC, Sunday, 11 September 2011 11:42 (fourteen years ago)

Dropping Berbatov, Rooney and Anderson hitting form, the addition of Young. Simple really

Number None, Sunday, 11 September 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

Dropping Carrick might have had an effect as well.

Villas-Boas' skinny tie is an excellent look for a football manager. Man though if Sturride had fluffed that backheel he'd have been absolutely destroyed. Sunderland defence is pretty woeful.

Matt DC, Sunday, 11 September 2011 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

God, Stoke fans must take absurd pleasure when they see things like their entire defence suicidally flinging themselves in front of five Jordan Henderson shots in a row.

That was a brilliant sequence. Between Henderson and Adam I think Liverpool had five or six shots on target in something like 12 seconds.

the art of posting sideways (onimo), Sunday, 11 September 2011 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

Even Carrick didn't manage to balls things up too badly when he came on yesterday. When Rooney plays well, Utd play well, and this might be the best i've ever seen him play.

Number None, Sunday, 11 September 2011 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

Meireles had Chelsea fans purring, and the team is looking so much more mobile and fluent with him, Sturridge and Mata. Sturridge has the audacity of youth that we've been missing since Robben.

This is the strongest squad we've had for a while - yesterday was the first game for years when it was hard to predict the starting XI - and I think we can have a very good season, but just wish the United game wasn't coming round so soon... Our defence still playing very high and Young and Nani could murder us. Be very, very pleased with a point.

I like that Agüero plays with plain black boots, it brings a touch of olde worlde tradition back to the EPL and I'll cling to anything these days.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 September 2011 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

I can't say we were missing Meireles yesterday exactly, they played well enough, but we're certainly not the stronger for being without him.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 September 2011 13:23 (fourteen years ago)

I am a bit worried about Suarez running out of puff though - a few chances have fallen his way in the games so far where he's been less than lethal. He's probably at 99%, like, it's just a boggle that the missing touch is a sign of incipient fatigue.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 September 2011 13:27 (fourteen years ago)

how long a contract did we give give carragher when he re-upped? 3 years? Surely not 4?

He signed a 2 year extension in October 2010, taking his contract to 2013.

Chris, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

ta chris. if he's the first choice CB for the start of next season then something's gone horribly wrong imo

pandemic, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

Negotiated that deal when the club's future was up in the air, of course. Legend.

Chris, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

I do like him and I actually think he's got something to offer in a marshalling-type role - but it's at least a couple of years already since I started wondering out loud if he's totally shot.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

We didn't miss him when he was injured last season. I didn't once think, "If only we had Carra to organise the defence."

Chris, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

liverpool's gargantuan shitfest and owner probs in the last two years have allowed carra to grow moss like some dignified statue in the centre of a depraved banana republic, solely valued due to familiarity in a time of flux.

LocalGarda, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:40 (fourteen years ago)

oh, that's beautiful

He should do the decent thing and accept his destiny as Neville's sidekick on Sky Sports.

A Saint and Greavsie for the 2010's

pandemic, Sunday, 11 September 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)

This how you do it with dignity folks

The end came for me on New Year's Day, 2011 - and it came on a toilet at The Hawthorns. It wasn't the way I'd have chosen to finish, but I knew for certain that this was my last game.
After 18 years at Manchester United, after 602 first-team appearances, I was in the middle of playing for my team for the last time.

Maybe if I'd suggested a stewarding-type role for Carra, that would've received more favour?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 September 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

a silent sentinel role

Excited about tonight at Loftus Road. The lights. Half a new team. Beatable opposition.

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Monday, 12 September 2011 09:33 (fourteen years ago)

gomes out

We had an offer of 10m for dos santos during the window!

Offering modric an improved contract makes no sense

Special guest star: Kolo Toure.

Why did Spurs leave VdV out of the European squad?

Vision Kreayshawn Newsun (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 12 September 2011 10:37 (fourteen years ago)

not bothered about euruefa cugue

hipstery nayme (darraghmac), Monday, 12 September 2011 10:41 (fourteen years ago)

He's not a happy camper though, if the Dutch media are to believed. Pissed off that no-one told him. Lol.

Vision Kreayshawn Newsun (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 12 September 2011 10:42 (fourteen years ago)

hey guys i p much missed this weekend, cleverly rip?

anything else going on?

i'm interested about a liverpool assessment - was it because stoke were really good or was their problems integrating their new midfield? did carroll play?

we got 3 points, fuck a performance at the moment. confidence and points are much more important to collect at the moment.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 12 September 2011 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

liverpool lost cos disrespectful refs are battering them with wrong decisions iirc

be sure to check local garda's autumnwatch cuntwatch series for all the details

r|t|c, Monday, 12 September 2011 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

Liverpool lost cos of an embarrassing mishap by Carragher, cos of a slight lack of guile up front though they played well enough, and cos Stoke are actually pretty good. Liverpool did swamp them a bit, but still. Carroll came on, you can imagine what the penalty area looked like from then on.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 12 September 2011 11:09 (fourteen years ago)

ref kinda screwed them tbh but also lol finishing

Vdv barely makes it through 90 mins as is i'd go with keeping him league-only tbh

hipstery nayme (darraghmac), Monday, 12 September 2011 11:12 (fourteen years ago)

bellamy gave the team a bit of pep when he came on i thought but yeah 'pool shouldnt have lost that game

yeah 4real, big jonesy has inherited carroll's big english mancrush mantle this season (still got love for andy though). think phil kinda has an endearing rugger bugger posho charging around the pitch 1940s/50s thing going.

r|t|c, Monday, 12 September 2011 11:16 (fourteen years ago)

i'm interested about a liverpool assessment - was it because stoke were really good or was their problems integrating their new midfield?

Come on dude surely nearly everyone expects things like this to happen when they go to Stoke?

Matt DC, Monday, 12 September 2011 11:35 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I know, I just wanted to know how Liverpool were at dealing with it.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 12 September 2011 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

also now they have Crouch I do kinda expect Stoke to get worse.

btw the time's game podcasts have been doing extra episodes that are way more interesting than their normal ones, last week they covered italian strikers, the week before that was how footballers feel about journos, this week the decline of scottish football. the only really good one was the italian strikers one but i feel like it could be something to pay attention to over the season if put more interesting and obscure topics on the 'extra' ones.

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Monday, 12 September 2011 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

crouch will tear stoke's game apart

hipstery nayme (darraghmac), Monday, 12 September 2011 11:53 (fourteen years ago)

Why would Crouch make Stoke worse? It's not like they were playing silky passing football beforehand, and it's not like any of their strikers were exactly goal machines either.

Matt DC, Monday, 12 September 2011 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

because their game is aerially inclined, and he's awful in the air?

hipstery nayme (darraghmac), Monday, 12 September 2011 11:58 (fourteen years ago)

^^^^^ding ding ding ding
