She gets like this every year when it starts to get cooler out. I have no idea why.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:15 (eighteen years ago)
Oh wait... I think I figured out what this is about. I gave her wet food for the past two days, and today when I went back to dry, it wasn't good enough. She's angry and she's punishing me.
God, this is a pisser of a cat.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)
I don't have a tranquilizer gun.
But you have kitchen knives. And an oven.
That cat is awful.
― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:26 (eighteen years ago)
Rip her head off. She's just a cat.
― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)
She's a cat, not a duck!
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)
And I'm not even hungry.
In his room they found a chicken and a turkey as well. And something about "It's just a turducken."
― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)
HA!
Actually, evil cat is sleeping quietly now. I think she likes The National.

I'm gonna start up a .com business that sells DIY joke kits.

More of a spare parts joke salvage yard.

― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)
I just gmailed you, btw.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)
kevin, i'm with you there on the being let down by people. however, i suspect my tolerance for ignoring former fratholes has gone up since living in this neighborhood.
so if dannys isn't the place for dancing, where is? i think getting pretty darn drunk and going dancing might improve my mood.
― colette, Thursday, 27 September 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)
colette, fuck, go to danny's. don't let anyone stop you from having a good time. i couldn't tell you where to go dancing but my friend who usually suggests danny's might be dropping by again tonight, if she does i'll ask her where's a good spot.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 02:44 (eighteen years ago)
fuck i really wish i bought that pack of cigarettes. i forgot i had that whiskey.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 02:51 (eighteen years ago)
so bummed tonight
― Jeff, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)
How come?
― Jordan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:19 (eighteen years ago)
Fuck you guys, I'm going to have another beer, stay up too late, and watch more Office dvds.
Colette, I haven't found a place I totally love to go dancing in Chicago, but my favorite so far is Sonotheque. I am trying to remember the deal with covers there...it can be expensive, but I've also definitely not had to pay a cover at all a couple of times.
― horseshoe, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)
oh also, those of you who were thinking of seeing 2 Days in Paris, I saw it tonight! I loved it!
― horseshoe, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:28 (eighteen years ago)
also, Jeff, I hope everything's okay.
― horseshoe, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:29 (eighteen years ago)
dude i'm having beers and calculating record bpms o_O
― deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:44 (eighteen years ago)
hay RW have you been to The Burlington? its this new place @ kimball and fullerton, seemed alright
― deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)
and by seemed alright i mean its a decent hipster bar that had cuet girls when i was last there
...go on
― river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:48 (eighteen years ago)
So. I remember you guys talking a month or two ago about the block on Division just east of Damen, and last night I saw that monstrosity -- I'm pretty open to gentridfication as a rule, when it's done well -- but I saw that monstrosity called The Boundary, and now I get what you guys were talking about back then. That's a step beyond the little fancy-bag stores.
And by coincidence, last night I saw that Chicago Ale House on Lawrence as well, which was not as much of a monstrosity to me, but looked more like the one giant brewpub that some small/mid-sized towns now have, like Walter Payton's Roundhouse in Joliet, next to the train station.
― Eazy, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)
i'll admit: i haven't been further west than kedzie since i've been back (discounting a trip to the southwest side for volunteer stuff) :-/
― river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:50 (eighteen years ago)
Jeff, does it have something to do with this "Marlins Continue Mastery of Cubs" headline I just saw?

its right on fullerton a couple buildings west of the intersection @ fullerton and kimball, an easy walk from kedzie. pbr/old style on tap for 2 bucks, they have djs playing decent music, apparently its already getting pretty packed on weekends but its a nice spot for weekdays because logan sq only really has the whirlaway as a bar catering to cuet girls and not burly old dudes
― deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:55 (eighteen years ago)
that is right near where I live and i had no idea it existed!
― horseshoe, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:55 (eighteen years ago)
logan square drinking = small bar or helen's two way inn for me.
oh, and the occasional el cid margarita.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:04 (eighteen years ago)
ive never been to helens, where is that? forgot about small bar
― deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:07 (eighteen years ago)
does ronny's count as logan square? it's north of armitage so i would assume so. what's the eastern boundry of logan square?
xpost- helen's two way in: one entrance on milwaukee, one entrance on fullerton.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:09 (eighteen years ago)
i just gis'd it and it's helen's two way LOUNGE. the two way inn was a bar in memphis that closed a year and a half ago. two years ago this weekend i was getting way fucked up in the midsouth at the two way inn.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:11 (eighteen years ago)
Two Way" refers to the bar's two entrances—one on Fullerton and one on Milwaukee, but the "lounge" reference is beyond me. If you ask me, I'd call it "Helen's Two Inn." (Get it?)(emphasis mine) But moving on, this is a grizzled, old-timers spot for sure: The night I dropped in, everyone was on a first-name basis (except for me), and a dog wandered in and out of stool-legs before clunking down beneath the pool table. There's even a stage should any aspiring musicians want to share a tiny amount of floor space.Frosty drafts (accent on frosty—the mugs are nice and cold) of Old Style will set you back a grand total of $1.25, knocked back to a buck on Mondays and Thursdays. In true Chicago roadhouse tradition, if you want something else on draft, you better hike down to Quenchers—it's Old Style, and only Old Style, in here. If you're looking to get all fancy-pants, turn to the three boxes of Franzia wine sitting behind the counter.

ronny's counts (eastern boundary is california, when you're that far south...i assume?)
original small bar is OG, and still good, i think.
i almost typed "i have never been to helen's" but then i realized that i have, once. two years ago, almost.
― river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:13 (eighteen years ago)
i should like quenchers more than i do. i just can't stand the place and i don't really have a good reason why.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:15 (eighteen years ago)
oh i've totally been to helens. i never really associated it w/ a name
quenchers i'm lukewarm on too
pretty sure that armitage is the southern boundary of logan, and western is the eastern boundary
― deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:20 (eighteen years ago)
totally off tropic (mmm... tropics):
Jenny, right now, for reasons unrelated to anything that will earn me money or advance me in life in any way, I am reading about and discussing with a friend online the Commerce Clause. This is some shit, lemme tell ya. It doesn't even make sense as a law.
EVERYTHING is commerce. Everything that is bought or sold, ever, anywhere, is commerce, and so falls under this definition technically. And the "channels," "instrumentalities," and "actions that substantially affect" this commerce basically encompass all human activity on the planet.
Except maybe, like, fucking. That seems to fall outside its jurisdiction.
I'm lost, but at least after reading all this shit, I don't feel alone.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:20 (eighteen years ago)
quenchers is too "theme-y" for me. though i do appreciate the personal pizzas.
xp *_*
― river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:21 (eighteen years ago)
And that's only because prostitution is illegal!
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:22 (eighteen years ago)
the two way is open 365 days a year and will be where i'm spending xmas this year. if there are any other chicago "orphans" with nothing to do for the holidays let's go there and open presents. and by presents i mean cans of old style.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:30 (eighteen years ago)
hmm, lots of bar options. i wish i liked beer, it would mean even more options.
i think toby and i are here for xmas but as i don't drink beer, i'm not sure only old style is such a way for me to celebrate. but it kinda sounds awesome nonetheless.
― colette, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:48 (eighteen years ago)
What is the theme of quenchers? At least they have a decent bottle selection.
― Jeff, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:31 (eighteen years ago)
Wow. I did not realize it was so early when I wrote "why am I still up." I went to bed and read less than a page before I started going to sleep.
I woke up to find yet ANOTHER zit!!!! Why? That's 3, and they're all on the left side of my face.
― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)
I thought Western was the eastern boundary of Logan Square. If it isn't, what's between Wicker Park/Bucktown (which end at Western) and Logan Square?
― n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:09 (eighteen years ago)
wikipedia: The community area of Logan Square is, in general, bounded by the NIRC railroad on the west, the North Branch of the Chicago River on the east, Diversey Avenue on the north, and the SOO Line railroad on the south.
That isn't very helpful.
