HBO adaptation of Game of Thrones - will this be just for nerds? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

finished book one! in a week-long fit of reading-addiction that caused me to neglect work and social events. and four more books to go?? i need to set some self-imposed limits here. so glad i didn't discover this series when i was in grad school; ultimate procrastination tool, especially when i have it synced to my iphone too! always be reading...

So one of GRRM's stylistic choices that rilly bugs and at this point (middle of book 4) shows every sign of increasing is the way he peppers scenes with dialogue with a character's internal monologue, like,

I'd like to shove a dirk up your butt. "My Lord is too kind," sez someone or other.

I was a bit disappointed he never did a one off Gregor Clegane POV where it was just the word "kill" for eight pages

oh i totally didn't even take a break and read right on into book three. i am a little freaked out about the oncoming zombies tbh.

book 4 is kinda meh so far, maybe just in comparison to the non-stop action of book 3

No, I think book 4's mehness stands alone, though it does hit some high points.

Book 4 is 'here's what it's like for the little ppl' if u just take it as that it's v enjoyable

book 4 is also 1m times better than book 5

except book 5 slightly advanced the plot.

but it was 2x as long and 2x as boring. book 4 was sorta interesting, had better worldbuilding, new interests, etc.

too much Cersei for me in book 4. One note character shrilling her one note to oblivion.

i really liked the tyrion plot in 5, and the john snow plot, but both could have been half as long

matt ill be interested to see what you think! i had an initially meh-bordering-on-positive reaction but once the adrenaline of reading the thing had worn off i grew to hate it, deeply

i'm just digging what's going on w/snow, danerys, tyrion right now, intersting plotlines so far imo

there's a lot of water-treading w/ dany and snow, imho, that seemed pretty clearly padding out length

i guess i have a hard time believing i'll like it less than book 4 for the simple fact of the characters that are in this one....but who knows, i'm still in the honeymoon phase

i mean tbf page 120 in an asoiaf book is like page 25 in most books
