I don't know how a song and dance number fits into the story, but lol @ the line "we're gonna have more fun and be less weird than the first two years combined."

season 2 dvd is out! i put it in my netflix queue, and noticed that the capsule description of the show calls Abed "a film student with Asperger's." the show's never officially diagnosed him, has it?
― some dude, Saturday, 10 September 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)
no and that description is annoying
― horseshoe, Saturday, 10 September 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)
seriously
― some dude, Saturday, 10 September 2011 17:06 (fourteen years ago)
abed is a student of human nature
― j., Saturday, 10 September 2011 17:46 (fourteen years ago)
Abed is deliberately 90 deg out if phase with everyone else, and with the show as a written creation.
I think Dan's addiction to TVTropes might feed into this.
― Blind Diode Jefferson (kingfish), Saturday, 10 September 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
IIRC, in one of the early episodes, Jeff answered something Abed said with "...and you have Asperger's", which was the most blatent reference, although (grain of salt ready) the line is more about Jeff being a dick than whatever it is that makes Abed Abed.
― Status Update...in my Seether? (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 10 September 2011 18:16 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, early on they obv intended Abed to be strictly aspie, then pulled back from this, eg "Abed The Undiagnosable"
― challopian rubes (sic), Sunday, 11 September 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)
yeah they definitely tiptoe around it and make a show of not pinning him down to anything like that -- Big Bang Theory walks that line even more precariously with Sheldon
― some dude, Sunday, 11 September 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)
seems pedantic to think too much about it. they can have more fun with it this way.

Felt off, airless, a bit too predictable. Did Cougartown really need to be a continuing thing? Would prefer it if they just moved moved moved.
Did like the Doctor Who bit, though.
― Work Hard, Flunky! (R Baez), Friday, 23 September 2011 01:09 (fourteen years ago)
I hope that's the last show for a while where the group analyzes its own dynamic. I thought it was a good episode, but that topic is stale.

it's the kind of thing that head writers like to talk about in extensive online interviews but nobody else gives a shit about. just give us the funny.

― Johnny Fever, Friday, 23 September 2011 04:18 (fourteen years ago)
hopefully pierce being back in the group means an end to the in-fighting plotlines, because that was old last season. less yelling, more zings!
but still some quality stuff tonight. i liked shirley quietly suggesting they use abed's catatonia as a chance to baptize him.
― FLAWLESS STANCE, ATHLETIC BEAST, WINNER'S POSTURE (reddening), Friday, 23 September 2011 05:10 (fourteen years ago)
liked the 2001 and Shining nods but would've liked a full blown Kubrick ep more
― LaMonte, Friday, 23 September 2011 13:50 (fourteen years ago)
I was dying already the instant Abed said "I'm on episode six", enough that my wife paused the episode and made me explain why I was laughing so hard and I said pretty much what Britta said 20 seconds later when we pushed play again.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 23 September 2011 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
I'm annoyed they just didn't use Dr Who and used some lame stand in.
Ep was kinda lame, but they always start slow. Not feeling the lizard but I <3 the 'lets breaking bad together' w/ omar line.
'Cut it boobs' p much the only line i lol'd at, along with the rectum bit.
― Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 23 September 2011 15:54 (fourteen years ago)
Nah that was great, I hope it's the new Kickpuncher.
Episode was fun but kinda felt like they were trying to cram too much in, maybe the Dean/Goodman stuff could have waited an episode or two. Better than the start of S2 though. Shirley had most of the best moments although the idea of Chang as the security guard has serious lol potential.
― Matt DC, Friday, 23 September 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)
thought the shot of jeff in the tunnels when the smoke starts rolling down towards him and chang scampers down a side corridor was amazing

i was impressed by this too! the whole episode looked very good. also britta went back to having wavy hair and i thought she looked amazing, especially in that gray shirt in the tag.

also britta went back to having wavy hair and i thought she looked amazing,
Dan Harmon was saying on one of the DVD commentaries that they got so much flack for changing Britta's hair in season two. I didn't even notice she'd changed it back.
We had to stop the DVR because we were laughing so hard at "you've really thought this through" on the Dean's monkey hotel plans.
― trishyb, Saturday, 24 September 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)
No way was this awful. I agree with Matt though - too much stuff. So far The Office, BBT and this have all started off pretty good and in the absence of ANYTHING FUNNY AT ALL on British TV I'm happy with that.

Think they were just getting their ducks in a row really, seemed to be a lot of scene setting crammed into 20mins.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 24 September 2011 11:17 (fourteen years ago)
yeah the episode felt a little strained in the agenda setting and the unsubtle "for you new viewers we want to attract and keep, this is starburns, he has star-shaped sideburns" stuff but still had some big laughs
― some dude, Saturday, 24 September 2011 11:24 (fourteen years ago)
this episode seemed the same as most of the episodes, to me
― max, Saturday, 24 September 2011 12:01 (fourteen years ago)
i for one always find starburns-has-starburns jokes funny.
also, i thought the dean's entrance was hilarious ('how ya like me now, bitches?!') and that set me up for the rest of the episode.
― j., Saturday, 24 September 2011 15:57 (fourteen years ago)
Pros: "We're gonna sleep together". Abed's high pitch noise. Monkey hotel. Pierce being good, Jeff being bad
Cons: That beginning song in general. Group dynamics analysis. Chang too far off the deep end to ever have any semblance of realism. Not many funny jokes this time
― that's cute, but it's WRONG (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 24 September 2011 16:44 (fourteen years ago)
Abed being a pathetic spazz who has to be coddled and manipulated by his friends was ugh, much prefer when he's quietly the most together and self-aware person in the group
― some dude, Saturday, 24 September 2011 16:54 (fourteen years ago)
well, it IS kind of traumatic when your favorite show ends

otm. the dean made me laugh the most this episode.
― horseshoe, Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)
I don't think a relatively harmless high pitched noise is criteria enough to be all "pathetic spazz".
But otm, about the dean being awesome. He's been the opposite of Chang. When Chang was getting worse Dean was getting better.
― that's cute, but it's WRONG (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 24 September 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)
He never had to be coddled by his friends
