i think bellamy could be good now we don't have rafa mind-raking anyone who isn't one of the three/four players he trusts.

LocalGarda, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:26 (fourteen years ago)

genuinely can't get my head around the meireles sale. to alienate one first class midfielder for no obvious reason is careless, to do it again only a couple of years later is perverse.

bellamy has seemed fine attitude wise at his last three clubs tbh

Juata Man (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:28 (fourteen years ago)

I like Belle Amie.

Chris, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

blackburn scott dann fee 7.7m. they dropping ryan nelsen then?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

Rafa and Bellamy got on fine, but we needed to sell him to fund the Torres deal.

Sissoko?

Nelson is 33 and Samba's contract is coming up next year or in 2 iirc, so Dann is a good signing imo.

Apparently Meireles to Chelsea was done at 9pm.

Chris, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

The publication of the transfer request was clearly a propaganda move

Number None, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:36 (fourteen years ago)

yeah not too pleased about meireles going. apparently he was looking for a pay rise?

Michael B, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)

2325: DONE DEALS
A double deal by Aston Villa to tell you about. They captured Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas on a season-long loan and have also brought in his Spurs team-mate Alan Hutton in a permanent move, with the Scot signing until 2015.

what does our resident villa fan think? you signed (scottish) cafu!

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)

xpost yeah definite propaganda, said that upthread. the pay rise thing is mystifying too, if you can afford 60m quid in transfers we can surely afford to keep meireles. unless he was asking for really huge wages. i guess if they aren't going to play him maybe they thought they should cash in. but i'd rather meireles in that team than gerrard. ah well....overall pool have done well in the window.

LocalGarda, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

loooooooooooooooool

Jenas could be a good signing tho, depends on his head

Juata Man (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

Alex McLeish is the only person in the world who actually rates Hutton, right?

ailsa, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

xposts. Was promised a pay rise by the previous owners, but don't think it was in writing. One person reckons he was on 35k/wk and that this was due to rise to 70k/wk.

Chris, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

"Jermaine Jenas is a dynamic midfielder"
Hutton is merely "athletic" and "experienced"

pandemic, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:42 (fourteen years ago)

Crouch was £10m apparently. Still, good business for Spurs there.

pandemic, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

iain dowie spouting off lovingly about stoke, says "this puts them eighth, ninth, so you know, massive jump there". stoke finished 11th last season.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

hutton and jenas are tactically crap but both have some talent, unlike bentley

diouf est le papa du foot galsen merde lè haters (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

propaganda maybe but would like to know did he hand one in or not? multiple xp re raul.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

he handed one in, i'd say, but he was prob told he'd have to to finalise deal or something like that

Juata Man (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

Made him submit a written request so they didn't have to pay him any compensation?

Chris, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

maybe? I don't believe for a second that it happened in the timeline it became public, and if the deal was done at 9pm there shouldn't have been any onus on him to submit a request any more than the other 95% of players do.

Juata Man (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

^^this is what i don't get. compensation for what? if the player wants to leave does he have to hand in a transfer request in order to nullify his contract and if not can he say "i want to leave but you're still paying me"? in which case why doesn't every transfer come with a 'transfer request' attached #tiredandconfused

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:57 (fourteen years ago)

arteta is official btw

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

afaict, a player is entitled to a 'loyalty fee' (taken to be around 10% of fee i think) if they don't request a transfer in writing. They can do pretty much everything else they want cf fabregas yet still qualify for this payment.

Juata Man (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

rotten fuckers

second only to popcorn (or something), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

Is this true?

@BrianDurand56 Apart from Xabi's goal in '08 (& that was given as OG by PL), every LFC scorer in last 8 lge games btwn LFC & CFC has been signed by Chelsea

'should have sold huddlestone then'

even blue cows get the girls (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 23:28 (fourteen years ago)

So two players, not as startling put that way. Still a hefty sum from Roman to Liverpool though, better investor than G&H

Frimpong iddle I po (onimo), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 23:29 (fourteen years ago)

So do I want Suarez to score in the next one or not?

Chris, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 23:41 (fourteen years ago)

judging by the prices you've been gettin, yeah

BBC 5 live's Juliette Ferrington on Twitter: "Hearing that when Crouch arrived here tonight the first thing he had was a curry in the Stoke City canteen."

So Bolton wanted Defoe as part of the Cahill deal but were offered Bassong or Bentley

Number None, Thursday, 1 September 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

good job Owen.

Gukbe, Thursday, 1 September 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

Am I misreading to think this from Paul Hayward in the Guardian as a nasty little swipe which he has no evidence for?

Against the trend of long-term planning City took a late gamble on Owen Hargreaves, whose return to full fitness seems to have coincided with his Manchester United contract not being renewed

pandemic, Thursday, 1 September 2011 06:20 (fourteen years ago)

?

What's not factual there?

even blue cows get the girls (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 September 2011 06:51 (fourteen years ago)

factual but the implication is - and I think this is commonly understood - man city see it as a delicious prospect that hargreaves may get fit and run a sav in the prem, just after noisy neighbours man utd dropped him as useless

8-2 fruity (cozen), Thursday, 1 September 2011 06:54 (fourteen years ago)

what's not factual?

even blue cows get the girls (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 September 2011 06:56 (fourteen years ago)

I thought the implication was that he only bothered to get fit when his contract ran out, and had been shirking up until then. But I admit I may be misreading it.

pandemic, Thursday, 1 September 2011 07:15 (fourteen years ago)

It may be that I read most Guardian pieces in a sarcastic tone of voice.

aloud?
