I think Parker is overrated, myself. He was the best thing in a very lacklustre West Ham team last season, but I went to see them a few times and couldn't quite see why he was getting the rave notices. He looked like he cared in a team of apathetics, but that's not enough on its own. His passing was often not the best - it was the box-to-boxness that made him stand out, but that's not the crucial thing in a team that wants to play a quick passing game. Doesn't surprise me that no one's come in for him at the reputed £8m - for a 29yo who'll want four years on big wages, with no prior record of tearing up trees.

wouldnt tempt fate if i were you, just in case spurs dont seal the deal

r|t|c, Monday, 29 August 2011 13:49 (fourteen years ago)

bentley and bent were ok, not great value, at approx 16m each, but the wages were joke figures. We did well to get bent sold, we'll never shift bentley at his current level. Loan out to showcase him was a solid idea but he wasn't great iirc

meant to say at blackburn up thread...before spurs signed him i meant.

LocalGarda, Monday, 29 August 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)

xpost Would take him at Loftus Road, but out ambitions are lower than Spurs'. Not sure we need him now we've got Mad Joey though.

Giovani dos Santos Ramírez[1] (born 11 May 1989) is a Mexican footballer who currently plays as an attacking midfielder for English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

Use him! Could play in VDV's position, on the right instead of Lennon ... Or sell him already, so I can watch him somewhere.

boxall, Monday, 29 August 2011 14:00 (fourteen years ago)

xp did you see that paul smudge from the mirror tweeting about us being in for bellamy btw? just imagine.

Xpost Yeah, I saw that. Bollocks, I'm sure. He seems to be revered by QPR fans for not getting the FA hearing as wrong as a load of other pundits, but when I worked in the football press I didn't have a high opinion of him. Smudge, not Bellamy.

Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Monday, 29 August 2011 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

xposts. Didn't realise dos Santos is still actually at Spurs. Thought his loan to Santander had become permanent weeks ago.

Chris, Monday, 29 August 2011 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

I did a news search as well as checking Wikipedia, saw a recent link to Espanyol and persistent links to Sevilla (where Santander's coach left for), but apparently it hasn't happened yet.

boxall, Monday, 29 August 2011 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

Look, it's an interview with Robbie Keane, complete with photo of that horrible goal celebration.

Not particularly mind-blowing tbh.

is there a more reliable alternative to livesportontv these days?

god hates frogbs (cozen), Monday, 29 August 2011 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

Man it was annoying that ESPN's game this week was the boring Aston Villa/Wolves match, when there so many other exciting ones I would have rather watched. I think I need to pony up for Fox Soccer Network.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:04 (fourteen years ago)

they don't have much choice in that tbf. and yeah, you should get FSC. you get the excitement of having Piers Morgan come on their Sunday post-game/weekend-roundup.

Gukbe, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

just upgraded my TV to get ESPN/eurosport and TiVo. do I plump for sky sports? on one hand streams suck, otoh my money would be going to sky

arsenal for champs - 8/2 against (cozen), Monday, 29 August 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

Well I know they don't have much choice, I was just moaning about how it ended up this weekend. Piers Morgan? Thats a big strike against them, tbh.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

fwiw i'd go round to rupert murdoch's house twice a year to suck him off for the range of football coverage i get, so the extra few quid a month instead doesn't bother me

Yossi/Meireles swap, says Twitter.

Chris, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

plus cash, right?

lolled @ 'timeboom' (darraghmac), Monday, 29 August 2011 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

Huh?! Everything's wrong with that picture, except that I like Yossi.

I didn't stick around for the GOS show after ManU vs Arsenal but I kind of wish I could have; they were saying that he's a Gunners fan.

no mention of cash dmac.

Chris, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

Morgan's twitter primarily consists of invective directed at Michael Owen/Wayne Rooney/Ferdinand and hysterical claims for Wenger to be sacked.

Number None, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

I 8 - 2 to say it but...

- Cesc just won his second trophy at Barcelona in a matter of days

- Nasri got three assists for Man City

arsenal for champs - 8/2 against (cozen), Monday, 29 August 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

At least Raul will get a well-deserved pay rise. I'm going to have to face facts and actually like Chelsea now the remodelling is largely through

Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

Yossi/Raul thing aint concrete, but the guy it's come from usually knows what's going on. Could simply be AVB giving KD a quick call to sound him out, or vice versa. Or they're swapping football stickers.

Chris, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

cant see a straight swap deal tbh.

Juata Man (darraghmac), Monday, 29 August 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

How is Yossi even still playing in England? Is he really still that good or is he just part of your league now and people think he's a nice guy?

Vaginalogue Bubblebath (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 29 August 2011 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

Well maybe Comolli and Henry will give the nice Mr Abromovitch some money as well. xpost to Darra

It shouldn't be, but the club clearly don't rate him like we do. That said, it's hard to see Yossi as first choice.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

Frimpong stripped Piers Morgan of his Arsenal supporter status on Twitter, earned his salary by that act alone imo.

boxall, Monday, 29 August 2011 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

Giving Chelsea a better player than the one we get back? Dud. Having said that if they take Joe Cole's wages off our hands as well I might be persuaded. Oh wait...no I won't. Raul and Suarez will be good together I think.

pandemic, Monday, 29 August 2011 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

It's not going to happen though; I think

Suarez
Gerrard
Downing Adam
Henderson Lucas

in some sort of ultraflexible nominal 4-1-4-1 is where we're heading for at the sharp end of the first XI

Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 August 2011 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

if yossi goes for meireles i'll cut off my hand and post a pic of the bloody stump on this thread. not a hope...

LocalGarda, Monday, 29 August 2011 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

Letting Mereiles go would be outright insane. Great player.

Didn't realise Meireles was so highly rated. Assume he's a back-up option in case Modric falls through. Moutinho and Pereira also being discussed and Arsenal in for Benayoun apparently.

Don't know if you guys wanna move the transfer speculation to the "My client became a Youtube sensation" thread for these last couple of days of the *Transfer Window*, but "my sources tell me" (lol) that Chelsea bid £8m + Yossi for Meireles tonight. LFC rejected the bid, Chelsea are planning to improve it. LFC don't particularly want Yossi, but Yossi would like to return.

Chris, Monday, 29 August 2011 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

we don't need yossi back and if we take 10m or 12m for meireles someone has lost their mind.

Sir Alex Ferguson's impact at Old Trafford has intensified the allure the club has held for generations. The craving of businesses to be associated with United verged on self-parody when DHL chose to sponsor the training kit for £10m a year.

wtf?
