Tom's Pissy Stench Sex Dungeon
:D
The venue which seems like a good place to put on a party, until you put one on in there.

I guess it would be a bit traumatising having someone come up and say "Hi, I'm Colonel Poo" to you.
Your name must cause you problems in all kinds of situations."Come in for your job interview Mr, er,....Poo""It's Colonel, actually.""Right. Well, I think we've heard enough."
― My heart goes out to the people of platitudes (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 28 August 2011 11:20 (fourteen years ago)
Haha, I wasn't freaked out, just a bit distracted and then we had to miss the very end to run for trains so didn't get a chance to catch up after. A crowded venue is often not the best place to have a conversation, sadly. I did like the fact that you looked quite embarrassed as you introduced yourself.

Just a bump in case anyone can make it - our night is at Sticky Mike's (formerly Jam) tonight (Friday), 11pm-3am.
― emil.y, Thursday, 8 September 2011 23:29 (fourteen years ago)
Nice to discover this thread. I lived in Brighton from 2000 to 2006 and do miss the place. Anyone else remember the Gilded Palace of Sin gigs put on by Dave, the former head honcho at Rounder?
― ban this sick stunt (anagram), Friday, 9 September 2011 09:20 (fourteen years ago)
I remember having a chat with him about Americana after going in to buy The Sunset Tree. Not sure I ever attended any of his shows but definitely went to some (probably at C2) where he was DJing.
― Upt0eleven, Friday, 9 September 2011 09:39 (fourteen years ago)
I'm in Brighton tomorrow to Tues morning (just to get out of London/away from work for a bit). Anything going on? Pity I can't make emil.y's club night tonight!
― The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Friday, 9 September 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)
Not as far as I know - am planning my hangover in advance, though, so haven't been looking for myself. A couple of friends are DJing in pubs, but I'm guessing neither of those would be 'event' enough for a visitor. Default position would be Green Door Store near the station, the club nights are always free and it's open until 4am, so it's usually worth a punt, though it can have long queues and the music isn't always brilliant. Totally depends on what the night is, though. If you're here until Tuesday you might want to go to Metal Monday there! \m/^__^\m/

This weekend looks really quiet for gigs:

Good luck with your night emil.y!

Checked this site: http://www.brightonnoise.co.uk/#gig-guide
Looks like only thing on that we might be interested in is Deadbeat Descendant at the Prince Albert tonight. Never heard of them but samples on their myspace sound alright.
n/m lots of time for browsing all the second hand stores in the Laines and general lounging.
― The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 10 September 2011 09:52 (fourteen years ago)
I ran away again, sorry. Really was on the hunt for a good Bloody Mary to ease my befuddling hangover, you're not actually that scary, honest. Heartily recommend the Globe - very spicy and comes with celery stick and cherry tomato. Just bought ingredients to make Fisu at home, oh dear oh dear oh dear.
― emil.y, Saturday, 10 September 2011 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
Did he do the "I'm Colonel Poo" thing again?
― Prejudice Capsule Hamster (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 10 September 2011 18:49 (fourteen years ago)
Any Brighton types up to fun stuff at the moment?
We're putting on a gig on Tuesday night at the Green Door - Orca Team (c86 surf?), Joanna Gruesome (noisy nugaze?) and Edible Arrangements (lo-fi dronestomp?). Also got another club night coming up on the 3rd August.
― emil.y, Thursday, 28 June 2012 15:39 (fourteen years ago)
Joanna Gruesome!
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Thursday, 28 June 2012 15:56 (fourteen years ago)
Is that an exclamation b/c you like them, or is it merely a "meine gott, their name" reaction?

Yeah, I don't know the band but their name ist ganz gut
Actually, I don't know any of these bands AT ALL
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:13 (fourteen years ago)
Go Sailor = Rose Melberg & Amy Linton's super awesome oldschool indiepop band. Yes, a reformation, but one I'm a lot more excited by than most.
Las Kellies = Argentinian grrl garage
The Nuns = all-female Monks tribute act, featuring Delia from Mambo Taxi/Action Time/Actionettes/The Family Way/a million other great bands.
― emil.y, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)
Also featuring my friend Charley, formerly of rock band Gay Dad! And the miiiighty Debbie Smith!
Smittens = apparently quite twee, though you could probably guess that from the fact that they're called the Smittens.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:34 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, the Smittens are pretty ace queercore tweepop.
― emil.y, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)
oops i was just about to ask for brighton tips as i planned on coming down for a conference, but now i see that i marked it down wrong in my calendar by TWO MONTHS and it's long gone. d'oh. but i'd like to come down anyway, anything ~big~ (ish) happening music-wise over the summer?
― Merdeyeux, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:43 (fourteen years ago)
Had meant to see what was happening in Brighton last week as my partner was over for the Domitor conference, but didn't get a chance to get away from all the panorama/magic lantern show/early cinema screenings in the evenings to catch a gig.

came here to post about that! it sucks :(
― jabba hands, Monday, 9 July 2012 12:02 (thirteen years ago)
Gah, that's bad. Remember when Dave of the shop used to put on Americana nights under the banner The Gilded Palace of Sin. Great evenings.
Will be interesting to see how Resident in the North Laine weathers the storm.
― my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Monday, 9 July 2012 12:26 (thirteen years ago)
I'm assuming their business will go up in the short term, especially on the ticket sales side of things
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Monday, 9 July 2012 12:30 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, plus it seems to be a neater and, dare I say it, trendier shop than Rounder. I suspect a lot of Brighton bohos never venture beyond the North Laine to do their shopping and would never be seen dead in the Lanes. I'm sure it will thrive
― my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Monday, 9 July 2012 12:34 (thirteen years ago)
I haven't been into Rounder for ages tbh, never really seemed to have anything that I was looking for, whereas I consistently spend way too much money in Resident.
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Monday, 9 July 2012 12:49 (thirteen years ago)
Huh, I have the exact opposite experience - Resident never has much that I want that I can't get cheaper at the other shops, whereas Rounder always had me restraining myself from extra purchases. Really bummed about this news. Will attempt to shop extra hard at Endless Records now, don't want that going under, especially not so soon after starting.
― emil.y, Monday, 9 July 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, Resident isn't especially cheap, though they are pretty quick to mark down things that under-perform saleswise. New avant-garde/underground section in there is alright, it is all CD though.
Edgeworld closed recently too btw.
Where is Endless???
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Monday, 9 July 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)
it's where Edgeworld used to be
― my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Monday, 9 July 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)
i went there in may and walked around for a rainy day, it was nice

sorry it rained for u s1ocki ;_;
find somewhere nice to eat?
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Monday, 9 July 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)
it's ok, the rain let up and i ate an enhanced cookie and took pictures then hung out in a nice pub owned by a friend of a friend!
― funny-skrillex-bee_132455836669.gif (s1ocki), Monday, 9 July 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)
a cookie is not a meal! what would your mother say?
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Monday, 9 July 2012 18:52 (thirteen years ago)
so what is the difference between edgeworld and endless? are they carrying different stuff or is it just a change of owner or what?
― gonna send him to outer space, to hug another face (NickB), Monday, 9 July 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)
Colin doesn't run it any more, but Tom who was part of the staff at Edgeworld does. The stock is still fairly minimal at the moment but worth a look - my guess is it'll have a relatively similar ethos to the old shop.
― emil.y, Monday, 9 July 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)
I think one of the people who used to work at Edgeworld is still there but apart from that it's a completely new store with different stock policies and what have you.
xp

I dunno if you're interested in this, Nick, but me and the mister are doing the music quiz at the West Hill on Tuesday. It's shaping up to be pretty good and pretty hard, but considering your music knowledge I think you'd be in with a shot. There's no entry fee, so if you're free...

Quiz tonight!
― emil.y, Tuesday, 24 July 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)
How did it go?
― Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 11:30 (thirteen years ago)
I couldn't make this! I swear to do it next time though, so do let us know.
How does this sort of thing work in the age of the smartphone anyhow?
― mod night at the oasis (NickB), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 12:03 (thirteen years ago)
Mostly on trust. There were enough teams last night to keep an eye on each other, I think, but I'm pretty sure nobody even tried to use them.
We'll be doing it next month too, and the quiz itself is on every Tuesday, but I'll let you know what the date is when I work it out.
It was pretty fun, we got a lot of blank looks to some of the questions but the top two teams both did really well, and there was a good range of scores.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)
Oh yeah, I've just noticed on the flyer that it's every week. I could be dreadful at it on a regular basis!
