i'd like to see hokkaido, it's probably a bit of a backwater but it's the home of japanese whisky and it looks really gorgeous and snowy in hou hsaio hsien's 'millenium mambo'

Me too. not to disparage the japan of Lake Biwa/Kyoto/cherry blossom-adorned temples but Hakodate is attractive to me. I like hybrids (and cold places).
