― koogs, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)
my task manager is showing 380MB
about cache: is saying 316KB for in-memory cache
but i've got 8GB so i'm not scared of a piddling 380MB
― koogs, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)
seems like some huge entries from juno.co.uk are in the memory cache.. haven't visited in days though - how to clear?
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 15:57 (fourteen years ago)
restart firefox? it can't hold things in memory if it isn't running... (although it might write them to disk)
― koogs, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)
cache-viewer add-in is also handy, lets you see and delete (or save) individual entries.
― koogs, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 15:59 (fourteen years ago)
i've restarted it several times since i visited juno
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)
i will try cache viewer, chuckling inwardly at the idea of adding another plugin to suss out why ff is using so much RAM
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 16:01 (fourteen years ago)
Just go to Tools> Clear recent history > and select only "Cache" from the list of things to clear.

Whoa...
Admittedly, I have 24 tabs open. But still...
― Vaginalogue Bubblebath (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
333K. And I closed everything and restarted yesterday afternoon so hardly any tabs.
― Zingling Baby (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 25 August 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)
My stupid URL glitch is still going on. So minor a problem, and yet so irritating.

(FF5, cbf upgrading)
FF6, 31 tabs, 970k + plugin container 85k. Lol.
― Vaginalogue Bubblebath (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 August 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)
Why do you all have so many tabs open????
― weakness for Cinnabon; rampant heterosexuality (Je55e), Thursday, 25 August 2011 21:31 (fourteen years ago)
What else to do with them? I frequently visit all of them, nearly daily. It feels silly to bookmark them and open them manually every single day. Then there's links I stumble upon every day, open to read later etc.
Btw, the 970k Firefox is ridiculously lol hueg, but it doesn't noticeably slow my pc.
― Vaginalogue Bubblebath (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 August 2011 21:37 (fourteen years ago)
...but you have to click on the tabs manually?
― zvookster, Thursday, 25 August 2011 21:39 (fourteen years ago)
i mean u can just put a bookmark button on a toolbar
Yeah, I suppose I could. I'm not saying my way is best, not at all, just explaining how I use FF. One new feature that has proven to be useful is the "pin as app tab" thing, which basically the same thing.
― Vaginalogue Bubblebath (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 25 August 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)
(are people confusing KB with MB here? the number quoted is in KB, typically 1000s or 100,000s of KB)

ya as a general rule i keep gmail, grooveshark, ilx, fb, and tweetdeck open all day & running, and in turn those 5 generate stuff for me to open in even more new tabs throughout the day
― *steens furiHOOSly* (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Thursday, 25 August 2011 22:03 (fourteen years ago)
At work this week I've had 5-10 tabs open at any given time. At home, 4 in one set and maybe 6 or 7 others in a "someday" set.
I feel agitated having this many open, though that is changing as I realize that how I use my browser is changing.
Anyway, 10 seems like a lot to me, and 20+ would make me freak out.
― weakness for Cinnabon; rampant heterosexuality (Je55e), Thursday, 25 August 2011 23:20 (fourteen years ago)
Sometimes (maybe four times a year) I get to 30 and chuck a massive closing fit.
― Autumn Almanac, Thursday, 25 August 2011 23:44 (fourteen years ago)
Oh yeah, I chopped off the last three digits and wrote K instead of M, but don't know if anyone else did

God I never have anymore than 5-6 tabes open at once, and thats at work where half of them are work related pages. Gmail's the only permanently-opened tab I really leave.
I've stuck with FF3.X on work and home machines. I'm not running into any problems at all. The only weird one now is at work, upgraded to Acrobat 9 and now FF randomly crashes when I try to open some PDFs.

Why does Firefox run perfectly fine on my XP computer at work, but like an absolute dog on my MacBook pro at home? I've had to resort to Chrome which is okay but I'd rather be using FF.
― sam500, Friday, 26 August 2011 07:25 (fourteen years ago)
generally find both browsers run better on windows than osx

― koogs, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 09:07 (fourteen years ago)
My Firefox did it again, upgraded to 6 without me asking it to; in fact, with me explicitly saying "Ask Later"

i got the 'security updates' popup this morning and then it failed to find the update site. it's done this before. has it ever worked? or is the site in question just inundated by the gazillion firefox installations requesting updates?
