Fletcher played 90 mins with the reserves last week, so he should be back soon barring another relapse. I would love to see the Cleverley/Anderson partnership become first-choice but we'll see. It's certainly made our central midfield a hell of a lot more dynamic than it has been in years.

don't mind them, their numbers are unimportant. they're the footballing equivalent of bond fodder, the faceless chancers overcome by our hero just to fit in a shakycam scene.

I quite like the way Chelsea, City, and Liverpool have all gone for the stocking their team with central midfielders tactic over the past few years and Utd have just said fuck it by and large. Wingers are underrated

i dunno, utd spent a large part of the cron era with rooney and tevez out wide- that wasn't what you'd call natural width. it's only with the success of valencia (or, perhaps, the arrival of rooney as a cross-getter-onner) that ferguson appears to have begun to value natural wide players doing natural wid eplayer things again.

yeah, we were almost forced into that due to Ronaldo's unorthodox approach to positional play. I mean there's not many players who you can let get away with going wherever they want like that. Fergie has always valued his wide players though and i think once Ronaldo left he saw an opportunity to get back to a wing-based style

Pretty much. Utd were good; Spurs didn't exactly match them but were good enough in the first half, though would be so much better with a bit of movement. Who's responsible for that sort of coaching? Could see them struggling in a lot of games this season unless that's addressed, and you've got to be kidding me about Modric going meaning maybe a stronger team.

Yeah. Towards the end of the first half the commentary team on Sky were saying "it's not really working for United with these youngsters, maybe it's time to look at the bench and bring on the experience of Carrick and Park" which was utter nonsense, because United were looking good, and Park would come on for either Nani or Young (both experienced and playing well), and Carrick is crap, and most of 'the kids' were playing in defence because of injuries rather than a random experiment.

Could have done with Pav's height upfront as Defoe is never going to work as a lone striker, especially if we keep launching hopeful balls forward that he's about a foot too short to get on the end of. And 4-4-2 once we were already chasing the game was too late, it just enabled United to counter whenever we did. Weird as we'd been quite disciplined at keeping our shape before then, strange shortage of wingplay - apparently "get it to Bale at all costs" isn't our main gameplan any more.
