someone with a connection to club matters to arsenal? do you remember when we signed arsene? getting the right man is all that matters.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

Arsene Wenger is preparing a bid of around £23m for Lille’s attacker Edin Hazard, according to numerous sources this morning.

The Arsenal manager has come under heavy criticism after the departure of Cesc Fabregas , and a start to the season that has seen his side pick up just one point in their opening two games. Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool on the weekend emphasized the need to strengthen the current squad, and Hazard is believed to be just one of several targets the Frenchman is hoping to bring in before the closing of the transfer window on August 31st.

The future of Samir Nasri is still to be resolved, but should his proposed move to Manchester City go through in the coming days then the Arsenal boss will enter the transfer market with more funding than he is used to, and reports today have suggested he is more than happy to splash the cash, but only on the right kind of players.

At just 20-years-old, Edin Hazard has established himself as one of Lille’s top players, and both his goals and assists proved to be crucial as his side were crowned champions of France at the end of last season. Hazard has bagged himself 28 goals, and help set up another 22 in his last three seasons in Ligue 1, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that the Belgian international can replicate this kind of form in the Premier League, especially after the departure of both Cesc Fabregas and (potentially) Samir Nasri,

At £23m Hazard may be deemed a rather expensive gamble, and this kind of signing does appear to go against the tight-fisted reputation that Wenger has made for himself over the years. Wenger has vowed to remain in charge at Arsenal despite recent reports suggesting he may quit, and it seems as though his decision to go into the market relied heavily on the future of both Fabregas and Nasri.

With Champions League football far from guaranteed even this season at the Emirates, some Arsenal fans will have been preparing themselves for the worst over the summer period. However, if Wenger is able to rebuild and strengthen the current crop at Arsenal by bringing in players of high quality like Hazard, then there may well be some light at the end of the tunnel for these fans – we will perhaps be in a better position to know come August 31st.

tbh a signing like this, which is possible and within our transfer/wage structure with limitless sell-on possibility, would make me shut tfu

“What’s his name? Yeah, Ashley Young. We used to play against him when he was at Aston Villa and we did all right. He’s not better just because he has changed club."

Surprise, surprise, Howard Webb is reffing the Utd vs Arsenal game on Sunday. Won't be the reason why we lose, but still.

Kyrgiakos done okay tbf, he's just walking confirmation that your club is not a top club. Might as well have been sponsored by wonga.com and sung 'by far the greatest team / the world has ever seen' the past two years.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 August 2011 17:42 (fourteen years ago)

one thing is certain; the cornrowed cameroonian will not have given a fuck

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

needed kyrgiakos to play the hard cop to agger's latterday beckenbauer in order to fully cement the soti and sweep partnership

kyrgiakos did better than ok for liverpool at a time when a lot more lauded players were landing them in it every week iirc

Tottenham have failed to win any of their last 24 meetings with Manchester United in all competitions.

Spurs' last victory over United was a 3-1 success in May 2001 at White Hart Lane. They have failed to win any of the subsequent 20 league matches, two FA Cup ties and two League Cup games.

It's 22 years since Spurs last won at Old Trafford - a 1-0 victory in December 1989 courtesy of a Gary Lineker goal.

James Mitchell, Monday, 22 August 2011 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

I'm quite happy that Fergie is persisting with that team actually. Can't win anything with kids etc.

Number None, Monday, 22 August 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

I can see Spurs being unlucky not to win here.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 August 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

Mendez non-goal somewhere in the middle of that run xxp

Spurs

Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Livermore, Kranjcar, Bale, Van der Vaart, Defoe

Harry obviously remembers Friedel's regular superhuman performances against Utd

Aw, I thought Harry might be playing mind games re Modric

Wow so Brad's in. Was still expecting Gomes tbh.

Chris, Monday, 22 August 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

Man for man, Spurs are arguably stronger. Still 5/1 to get a win though. Probably fairly, tbh. Huge psychological barrier to get over.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Monday, 22 August 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
