Vidal/Wilshere/Ramsey MF wd be colossal.

pandemic, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

yeah agree w/ rtc

vidal and enrique went for lowish fees and would demonstrably improve this arsenal side

nakhchivan, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

could have got vidal, inler, and defour for the price of 1x nasri

could get banega or maybe gago for 1x clichy

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

how long does banega have on his contract? he is really first rate and probably going to cost more than that

nakhchivan, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

summer 2013 but i was just going with the circa £10m paper talk there tbf

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

that was my point re 30m wingers, yeah

A couple of cb's that were worth 12m would be a sounder purchase, those guys dont cost 80k pw

How much is Phil Jones on now? I think Redknapp mentioned that his wages put him out of Spurs' reach.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Monday, 22 August 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

Re. that piece I posted - isn't Mata only (lol) going to be on £55k/wk at Chelsea? Surely Arsenal's wage structure would allow that?

Obviously wanted us to win on Saturday, but kind of horrible to see Wenger like that. Nice to see him and KD shake hands at the start of the match btw, after 'piss off-gate' an' all.

Chris, Monday, 22 August 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

I reckon Jones would be on around 50k a week

Number None, Monday, 22 August 2011 12:24 (fourteen years ago)

So what's thought to be holding up the Nasri deal at this point?

boxall, Monday, 22 August 2011 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

payment to agents of 3m

10/11 of a dead jesus (darraghmac), Monday, 22 August 2011 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

wenger wouldn't answer his emails.

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Monday, 22 August 2011 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

Rumour is that Nasri's got heart trouble.

James Mitchell, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

iirc correctly the difference between the CL group stages and the Europa League in UEFA payouts alone is about 6m euros. I wonder if two different Nasris are on the block right now, one of them cup-tied.

boxall, Monday, 22 August 2011 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

Surprise, surprise, Howard Webb is reffing the Utd vs Arsenal game on Sunday. Won't be the reason why we lose, but still.

James Mitchell, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:13 (fourteen years ago)

he won't be the difference if you win, the effing see

10/11 of a dead jesus (darraghmac), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

Weird that n1ck thinks i want no manager. Ok the divorce analogy may have caused that but...? To take out the stale PHW-led board, give Kroenke-Glazidis full control and if Wenger is... allowed to leave for PSG, lets say, replace him with... I dunno- De Boer? Klinsmann?* It's not like it is a horrible job no exciting manager will touch. If you are there over the next ten years you'll see the debt be finished in time for lolffp, the rise of Wilshere and Ramsey and so on.

*Ok someone less Spursy.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

Coyle. You want Coyle.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

...I think he could be good at steadying the ship tbh...

Wilshere, Gervinho, RVP, (lol Nasri), Djourou and Song could all be in the first xi for Udinese. Looks a lot different to the team at the weekend, with more creativity, links between midfield and attack, Tommy and Gervinho on the left means we will be able to play on the whole pitch again and defensive stability. Just have to see if morale is the killer factor - a convincing win is incredibly important going into Utd. (Also Spurs making the new Utd back 5 look even more uneasy tonight.)

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

hodgson surely deserves a shot at it.

LocalGarda, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

surely Arsenal won't risk the lucrative Nasri deal by putting him in the line-up for Udinese

Gukbe, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

xp lol was just about to say I'd love Hodgson to go there.

Chris, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

qualifying is a lot more important than selling someone.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

Steve Bruce could surely be tempted

Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

God, imagine that. Nasri would throw his toys out of the pram to such a ridiculous extent.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

Really really wanna watch Udinese but I think the lure of Exeter in the Carling Cup is just too hard to turn down.

Chris, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

Nasri still has value for City, or ought to, even if he can only play in the league - still their top priority, right? Making the CL group stages is itself worth a lot of money and prestige for Arsenal.

xposts a convincing win, seriously? A 2-1 loss and advancement on away goals would be a huge victory at this point I think.

boxall, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

A team with Vermaelan, RVI, Gervinho and Wilshere should be able to pull off a convincing win. This is still a team with incredible talent, much like Liverpool a year ago was. It is just what happens on the pitch with it and how you work the less talented parts of it that will factor in. We beat Utd without Cesc a couple months ago and if some how we can have a morale-boost in the next coming days, are still able to do so again.

Did Joel Campbell get a work permit?

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

This is still a team with incredible talent, much like Liverpool a year ago was

i can remember everyone saying this at the time.

tho my sarcasm aside arsenal prob have a better squad than liverpool did a year ago, the problem areas aren't that hard to see you'd say.

LocalGarda, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

lol

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

Weird that n1ck thinks i want no manager.

No-one thinks you want no manager but at that point you hadn't named any candidates at all and still haven't made any viable suggestions. Expressing frustration is one thing but Wenger leaving would be a much bigger deal and more difficult task to accomplish than would replacing the manager at pretty much any other club bar United. While Wenger may not last the season it's not going to be an overnight departure and certainly no-one's getting pushed out the door any time soon.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

Why is De Boer not a viable suggestion?

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

Because he has a job which he's been in for five minutes and hasn't, to my knowledge, expressed any dissatisfaction about?

Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

why would we want someone prone to dissatisfaction? also he was there for a whole title winning season, not five minutes.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

he's p much avb but with a footballing background

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

If De Boer's been in his job for 5 minutes (half a season), Klinsmann's been in his for 30 seconds (one friendly). Not likely to leave.

boxall, Monday, 22 August 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

What about Klopp? Or Garcia? Garrido? Or yes, even Coyle or Lambert? Lots of young and exciting managers looking for a step up from over-achieving with smaller teams to under-achieving with a big club. Or promote from within with Bould who has done a hell of a job with the u18s coming through atm?

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

wait where has klinsmann gone then?

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:06 (fourteen years ago)

xpost to boxall

I wouldn't be keen on him either. The point is, it's just a name with no connection to the club and that *does* matter at Arsenal, unlike Chelsea, so the AVB comparison is a waste of time.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

someone with a connection to club matters to arsenal? do you remember when we signed arsene? getting the right man is all that matters.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

Arsene Wenger is preparing a bid of around £23m for Lille’s attacker Edin Hazard, according to numerous sources this morning.

The Arsenal manager has come under heavy criticism after the departure of Cesc Fabregas , and a start to the season that has seen his side pick up just one point in their opening two games. Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool on the weekend emphasized the need to strengthen the current squad, and Hazard is believed to be just one of several targets the Frenchman is hoping to bring in before the closing of the transfer window on August 31st.

The future of Samir Nasri is still to be resolved, but should his proposed move to Manchester City go through in the coming days then the Arsenal boss will enter the transfer market with more funding than he is used to, and reports today have suggested he is more than happy to splash the cash, but only on the right kind of players.

At just 20-years-old, Edin Hazard has established himself as one of Lille’s top players, and both his goals and assists proved to be crucial as his side were crowned champions of France at the end of last season. Hazard has bagged himself 28 goals, and help set up another 22 in his last three seasons in Ligue 1, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that the Belgian international can replicate this kind of form in the Premier League, especially after the departure of both Cesc Fabregas and (potentially) Samir Nasri,

At £23m Hazard may be deemed a rather expensive gamble, and this kind of signing does appear to go against the tight-fisted reputation that Wenger has made for himself over the years. Wenger has vowed to remain in charge at Arsenal despite recent reports suggesting he may quit, and it seems as though his decision to go into the market relied heavily on the future of both Fabregas and Nasri.

With Champions League football far from guaranteed even this season at the Emirates, some Arsenal fans will have been preparing themselves for the worst over the summer period. However, if Wenger is able to rebuild and strengthen the current crop at Arsenal by bringing in players of high quality like Hazard, then there may well be some light at the end of the tunnel for these fans – we will perhaps be in a better position to know come August 31st.

tbh a signing like this, which is possible and within our transfer/wage structure with limitless sell-on possibility, would make me shut tfu
