Then through my company I got the full latest Office for Mac for 19 dollars, so I couldn't pass that up.

still, the box is nice, dunno why the rest of microsoft don't 'get' how to do nice things

Too many directions. I think the mac office team is still relatively small, has a lot of in-team visibility, and actually has goals for specific releases.

From everything I've heard from people who have worked there in some capacity, every other team is kind of a mess.

got a 11" mba but kind of having second thoughts, the text is so small on these things!

Can you not make the text bigger? (soz if that's an obvious response)

yeah I just did and it helps. feel like it'll take a day or two for me to 'mentally adjust' even though the text is prob as big as it is on my mbp

I love our mba11.

how is it for reading?

i want a world where i can lay out html in a WYSIWIG editor and have it turned into code, not where you have to use tags just to get your word processing documents to print fucking italics.

i don't know, tagging for layout was what I liked about Word Perfect.

the default text size is unreasonably small imo (think some site calculated that the mba has the highest PPI of all the laptop/desktops?). but I've bumped up the default text size in chrome and all the apps I use. (the only casualty so far is the apple store website.)

full screen mode helps, wish chrome would hurry up and implement it natively.

the 13" has screen that feels much 'larger' but I'm philosophically opposed to it. for example, I don't feel as if I could whip the 13" across the room with a wicked twist of the wrist and take someone's head off with it. the 11", on the other hand...

of course all of this would be pretty much moot if apple would hurry up and turn on resolution independence in lion.

I have the high-res macbook pro screen and it's deliciously pixel-dense

my eyes still kind of hurt from looking at this thing. gonna give it a few more days to see if I can 'adjust'

I also have the hi-res mbp 15". When working at a desk, I'm fine. When sitting on the couch with it in my lap surfing the web, I have to enlarge each webpage.

i've got all my stuff set to large print, p much.

squintiness is why i'm thinking i would not want a mba as my main computer

I think the 13" would be okay, the display seems fine on that one. it's weird, I've got the text size set to pretty much the same size as my mbp, but it's still somehow more eye-strainy to read on the mba. hopefully it'll go away in the next few days.

Depends on the iPad. The first gen ones are pretty low res, the second gen just uses really big (pixel-wise) controls

urgh, they do, I was crossing iPad and iPhone in my head. Read "iPhone" for what I said, only with 3rd/4th gen :)

haha yeah that's why I wish apple would go ahead and do some sort of resolution independence.

just reduced the brightness level and that seems to help. might play around with contrast settings too. ctrl + opt + apple + <,> adjusts contrast, did not know that!

I had it but uninstalled it on my mbp cause I was doing my photo editing at night and it was too jarring to switch to the blueness of the O.G. display around flux lush ambient orange amber burnt sienna

not gonna use this one for photos at all so maybe I'll flux it up!

i like to think there's been a lot of ~deep thinking~ at apple about resolution independence and when we get it it will be magical

replace "resolution independence" in the above with anything, i guess

i don't even know what it is!!

it means no matter how pixel-dense the display, text and graphics just scale appropriately. eg the iPhone 4 has 4x as many pixels as the iPhone 3, but everything is the same size - just smooooth.

unfortunately, resolution independence is not a trivial matter of just making sure you have a bunch of vector icons.

so for example my vision-challenged mom could scale up the size of everything and it wouldn't look chunky and stupid?? nice and pretty, just bigger?

yeah that's the ideal

tho it looks like everyone else wants it for insanely-high-rez photo/video while maintaining usably sized icons/menus etc

would also be great for asian markets - imo the default font size of asian text is too small on ANY mac desktop or laptop

The new ones have hotter processors so the fan kicks in early. Kinda seems too early sometimes. The thing will barely feel warm and the fan will start running.
