things that make you irrationally happy: being the first person to post on a tv thread the day after the show!
what did you all think of this week? felt it tended to hammer home some of what's going on in case you hadn't twigged it last week, eg they are giving jesse something to believe in, look, here is gus saying "well done" etc.
the scene with the methhead in the house was great. not a major advancement plot-wise but an okay ep i guess. the skyler stuff is getting more annoying though, like, i know they keep having her reference the fact she is just a big moaner, but they kind of need to do more with her character, at the moment she really is just whinging about stuff.
― LocalGarda, Monday, 22 August 2011 12:54 (fourteen years ago)
I loved Walt* pulling apart the motivation for Jesse's ridealongs, Jesse going "maybe it was at first but what if they mean it man, ps fuck you," and actually turning himself right by the end of the episode
*except for actually seeing him do this, god what an asshole
― Ellen Allien ... in my urethra? (sic), Monday, 22 August 2011 12:58 (fourteen years ago)
re: skyler "whinging" .. uhh, Walt is acting INSANE. She seemed reasonable in last nite's episode.
― Lowell N. Behold'n, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, stop whining that the guy I worked with was shot in his own home, that'll never happen to me. I make the money, man. I roll the nickels. the game is mine.
― hello I love you but I've chosen darkness my old friend (Edward III), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:17 (fourteen years ago)
plus her last line was the best of the eps
― hello I love you but I've chosen darkness my old friend (Edward III), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:18 (fourteen years ago)
I'm the guy who KNOCKS was a great line too
and then Walt goes in the shower to re-shave his head to try and stay in character
nothing huge happened this episode but it was good, everything they've been building up got cranked up a couple more notches tension-wise
― dmr, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:19 (fourteen years ago)
yeah this is otm. if you want the show to be Natural Born Killers comic-book stuff then she can not "whinge" but a person involved with what she's been forced by association with her husband to become involved with is literally in peril 24 hours a day, and that also goes for her children: the teenager, and the infant. something is wrong with Skyler if she stops "whinging" for even a minute, given her situation.
― pathos of the unwarranted encore (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)
now that there are multiple Pollos trucks being shot up or having their drivers murdered I don't think Hank's goofy revelation with the napkin is all that important to the plot. obviously the cops are going to think the ckicken biz is involved in something shady.
― dmr, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
gus staging jesse's hero moment and walt subsequently guessing it was staged... feels like magical TV plotting, kinda underwhelmed by that whole thread
the mike + jesse show makes for quality viewing tho
― hello I love you but I've chosen darkness my old friend (Edward III), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)
ya. i guess they (the police) are probably going to find that last truck.
i think Walt's "i am the guy that knocks" speech was amazing. sums up everything about his mind-set and how he sees himself perfectly. he could just not stand having Skyler imply that he was frightened or not the alpha-male supreme there.
Skayler's last line of the ep was pretty amazing, and i'm starting to feel bad for her again. the scene with the coin, i think was pretty good too.
― karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)
Walt was such an asshole this episode. What did he think was going to happen to the cleaning ladies? The options pretty much ranged from bus to Honduras to dead in a ditch.
― dmr, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:03 (fourteen years ago)
Loved Walt's "This is all about me!" revelation as Jesse rolled his eyes and fumed.
― polyphonic, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)
the scene with the methhead in the house was great.
I enjoyed the scene, but thought it was a slightly cartoonish, PSA ad depiction of drug users. Idk, I've never done meth or come into contact with heavy users so maybe they are really that depraved/malleable.

I wonder what Anna Gunn did to her face. I wonder if it's just the weight gain?
― The Not Liking Radiohead Awards (Turangalila), Monday, 22 August 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
four corners is a neat lil place (been there) but did skyler really need to drive the 262 miles from albuquerque just to toss a coin when she could've just rigged herself up a little model on the kitchen floor using a flattened cardboard box and a sharpie? or better yet just flip a coin twice after rigging up a little results key like UT:HH AZ:HT CO:TT NM:TH
― del griffith, Monday, 22 August 2011 23:37 (fourteen years ago)
nah, definitely looks frozen too (xpost)
― Ellen Allien ... in my urethra? (sic), Monday, 22 August 2011 23:43 (fourteen years ago)
Is there some kind of ritual associated with flipping a coin at four corners, or was she just trying to decide whether she should stay in NM or run away to a neighboring state?
― Dan I., Monday, 22 August 2011 23:43 (fourteen years ago)
She probably started out just driving without a particular plan.
― Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 00:04 (fourteen years ago)
Like after Walt's speech she just wanted to get away from him right that instance.
― Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)
instant.
I thought the last line was p. lame. Way too writerly. But anyway, will Jesse's tactic really work if i ever need to distract a meth-head?
― Number None, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)

I really liked this episode. It was really funny, for a Breaking Bad episode.
― fields of salmon, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
ok love this show and
walt im the guy that knocks was great writing and acting
BUT
"its all about me!" was one of the worst writing moments yet in this show.

is this what they were getting at with the digging?
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 03:35 (fourteen years ago)
too many goofy camera tricks in this episode, esp the shovel.walt trying to speak spanish was pretty lol though. overall, felt like a lot of time-biding until the next Big Thing happens
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 03:40 (fourteen years ago)
I really like this show, so I'm not hatin', but somebody wrote recently about how the creative team wrote themselves into a corner (as they say they love to do) and are now spending a lot of time trying to resolve it, and I'm tending to agree. I'm not saying I want a breakneck pace, but more of a build towards something wouldn't go amiss right about now.
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)
Love camera tricks!!! I think they should have a walt penis cam for a whole episode.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 04:14 (fourteen years ago)
I think Walt figuring out the set-up was the most out-of-character thing so far. I know they tried to make it be part of his 'everything is about me' mindset but Jesse being babysat is kinda enough explanation he would need.
― kinder, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 04:26 (fourteen years ago)
I think they should have a walt penis cam for a whole episode.
snigger
― Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 05:33 (fourteen years ago)
walt's penis doesn't do much
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 05:41 (fourteen years ago)
Walt's penis cam ... in Skyler's vagina?
― Ellen Allien ... in my urethra? (sic), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 05:44 (fourteen years ago)
Thanks for that article Matt. Interesting stuff
― Number None, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 09:18 (fourteen years ago)
man, skyler just comes right to the point huh? BLAP. walt like a trapped boxer fending off blows. he has no answers. he's becoming unhinged.
methhead with a shotgun genuinely terrifying.
best ep of the season i reckon
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 10:53 (fourteen years ago)
Does anyone think those women are back in Honduras? Or are they in a ditch?
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)
A ditch. In honduras. Cleaning it. But for a lot less money.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 12:52 (fourteen years ago)
Seriously though, is the implication that they are illegals? I would think Gus wouldn't even go that route, just to keep INS out of his bizniz.
― Jeff, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 12:53 (fourteen years ago)
You mean ICE. The advantage of using undocumented workers is that you have ultimate leverage over them. They have to do what you say no matter what. I can see that appealing to Gus. I don't think ICE gives a shit as long as everything's quiet. And I imagine Gus usually keeps things very, very quiet.
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 12:55 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, employers with otherwise legit business models exploit their employees' undocumented status to circumvent every measly employment law on the books.
I could see Gus taking a Bluebeard approach with the laundry employees - I'll pay you well but never go into this locked room or I'll send you back to Honduras. Also I could see him not getting ICE involved at all but just taking them south via a private carrier.
The more I think about it, the more I don't think he would have the women killed.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)
Gus knew it was Walt's fault, not theirs. New Victor said so.

Tyrus. Was Sunday's ep the first time anyone referred to him by name?

think so.

loved the look he gave Walt when Walt tugged at his sleeve
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 15:24 (fourteen years ago)
I like that they've spent the first part of this season reinforcing what a completely unpleasant petty egotistical human being Walter White really is.

i took both of these to be them playing at being gangster, movies are the only reference point they have for this stuff, also theyre both totally retarded

That's when we take this thread to the TMI board. Or maybe just stop watching it. That really truly would be TMI.
― DSMOS has arrived (kenan), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)
yeah how do walt's deductive powers allow him to figure out jesse 'saving' mike was a set-up but do not allow him to think ahead to the consequences of bringing the cleaning ladies into the super secret meth lab?? hmmm
"i'm guy the who knocks" was great especially since it seems like the guy who actually knocked (jesse) is being brought into the running of the criminal organisation and the guy 'taking credit' for it (walt) is actually just an annoyance they cannot currently get around
do we think gus actually sees something in jesse?
