Didn't know Aguero was an Inbetweener.

wilkins: "he put a little bit of swazz on the side of that"

does he mean swag?

If Wilkins had said 'swag' it would have made my year!

pandemic, Sunday, 21 August 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

probably thinking of something somewhere in between 'swag' and 'vajazzle'.

Merdeyeux, Sunday, 21 August 2011 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

best game i've seen Dseko have for City

Number None, Sunday, 21 August 2011 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

He was good against Swansea as well. If City actually go for it, at least at home, against the 'big' teams as well it'll be fun to watch.

pandemic, Sunday, 21 August 2011 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

typical City, all the Latin flair in the world but will have to learn how to grind out a result even if it's harsh on the eyes.

MOTD3 = cunts on 606 messageboard iirc

Holt is amusingly wide, almost like seeing Jon Parkin miraculously appear in the Prem, except Holt doesn't have Beast's charm obv.

Countdown to Alma Cogan (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 21 August 2011 22:20 (fourteen years ago)

Arsenal have won just two games in the Premiership since February, which doesn't seem to have been pointed out. That's not just a dodgy start to the season, that's a wider general torpor.

'Manager out' form at any other club imo.

Ummm? Arsenal fans are going mental? Everyone presumes he'll be out by October? That we are looking at a season akin to Liverpool last season, not qualifying for the CL - at least, morale is about as low as it has ever been and the only way out is a fresh fucking change? I love Wenger, I think we all do, but it is time to push him and the borad out the door (not to be replaced by rapists who resemble jabba the hut).

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

It was, in its way, terrific fun supporting Liverpool last season. You're not going to be relegated, you're not going to go bust, just enjoy the ride.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 August 2011 06:27 (fourteen years ago)

Modric isn't playing tonight as "his head isn't in the right place". That's pretty worrying.

goldie hawn (ShariVari), Monday, 22 August 2011 07:55 (fourteen years ago)

Worrying indeed. I thought he had an injury, although it might be a phantom one.

Wenger won't be sacked but I'm not sure I'd bet against him leaving right now. He's showing all signs of hating every minute of his job right now.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 August 2011 08:54 (fourteen years ago)

With Mata to Chelsea, surely they won't also buy Modric?

I for one am (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 22 August 2011 09:01 (fourteen years ago)

Why wouldn't they? Mata's a winger, Modric a central playmaker.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 August 2011 09:03 (fourteen years ago)

lol wenger out

tbh i think this is not what you do to someone you love. Even I'm questioning the wisdom of his decisions myself but until you have a suitable, available replacement in mind, I suggest you show a bit of respect and shut the fuck up.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 August 2011 09:14 (fourteen years ago)

Replace Wenger with who? Especially if the report above is true. The new manager would face the same wage restrictions. Good luck finding someone who'd do a better job than Wenger given the situation.

pandemic, Monday, 22 August 2011 09:37 (fourteen years ago)

yeah

Tho if he really wanted to push rvp and nasri up to the 120k + club he's fuckin cracked

And if he really thinks a 30m winger on similar wages is the priority then he's fuckin cracked

So, no, tbh, in that slashfic piece the board is otm

10/11 of a dead jesus (darraghmac), Monday, 22 August 2011 09:40 (fourteen years ago)

And if he really thinks a 30m winger on similar wages is the priority then he's fuckin cracked

Wouldn't have been a priority last year, might be now given that Arsenal look short of creativity with Fabregas gone, Nasri nearly gone, Arshavin half-arsed, Rosicky knackered and Walcott shite.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 August 2011 09:51 (fourteen years ago)

Not a good day for the professor.

Find this article hard to believe as the simplest explanation is just that the club have fucked up this summer.

James Mitchell, Monday, 22 August 2011 10:03 (fourteen years ago)

which clubs are paying their players £120k at the moment who'd want to buy van persie?

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Monday, 22 August 2011 10:11 (fourteen years ago)

Malaga?

Number None, Monday, 22 August 2011 10:13 (fourteen years ago)

those russian guys as well

Number None, Monday, 22 August 2011 10:14 (fourteen years ago)

Well, if you wanna swap him for Joe Cole I wouldn't say no.

pandemic, Monday, 22 August 2011 10:18 (fourteen years ago)

lol yeah who would want to spend 2/3 of what adebayor is on for last season's most potent premier league striker

in response to n1ck: you never heard of divorce? sometimes leaving the one you love is the only way to a healthy life.

sure chris's article could be true but it doesn't explain why emery came out and said we never actually lodged a bid and so on. no-one is going to take 80k if you never get around to offering it to them in the first place.

gay socialists smoking mushrooms with their illegal gardeners (a hoy hoy), Monday, 22 August 2011 11:04 (fourteen years ago)

sam, it wasn't so much what you said, as how you said it. "it is time to push him and the borad out the door" is not the same as admitting to yourself that it's not working out and, if that's how you feel, that changes need to be made. i'm also pretty sure the divorce analogy is not great because i don't think we'd be better off without any manager at all than in an, apparently, dysfunctional relationship with the one we've got. if you are going down that route though, i'd rather we gave marriage counselling a try before giving up on the whole thing.

that article does ring true to me, reinforcing my view that there's always more going on behind the scenes than we can possibly know and that things are never as simple as spendsomefuckingmoney.com would like us to think. wenger's a company man and is basically being crucified by the fans for not bitching out the board instead. no danger of 'arry (or pretty much any other manager you can name) being so discrete.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:14 (fourteen years ago)

At some point you just have to admit that Man City and Chelsea are completely fucking you when it comes to wages and there's nothing you can do to compete. Man United have done fine largely because of Fergie and they're probably still able to comfortably outpay Arsenal if they want to.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:21 (fourteen years ago)

not that i can recall the deets but doesnt that article contradict pretty much every statement wenger's made over the last 7 years

i like how in the comments the author comes back to say "OH YEAH UM wenger no longer has any faith in ffp being enforced so now he's saying fuck it"

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:23 (fourteen years ago)

this is bollocks, isnt everyone's main beef with wenger not that he won't pay top whack for megastars but that he's seemingly ignored (/completely lost the knack with) polishing up midrange dudes

like if he'd signed a few vidal/inler/m'vila/martin/vertonghens and said we won't pay stupid money then they'd be genuinely competitive and no one would be grousing

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:34 (fourteen years ago)

It's not bollocks if Arsenal fans are going "wah we can't sign [X player who's been massively hyped all summer]". But yeah point taken in that there are a lot of players round Arsenal who aren't improving anywhere near as quickly as you'd expect.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:37 (fourteen years ago)

Vidal/Wilshere/Ramsey MF wd be colossal.

pandemic, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

yeah agree w/ rtc

vidal and enrique went for lowish fees and would demonstrably improve this arsenal side

nakhchivan, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

could have got vidal, inler, and defour for the price of 1x nasri

could get banega or maybe gago for 1x clichy

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

how long does banega have on his contract? he is really first rate and probably going to cost more than that

nakhchivan, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

summer 2013 but i was just going with the circa £10m paper talk there tbf

r|t|c, Monday, 22 August 2011 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

that was my point re 30m wingers, yeah

A couple of cb's that were worth 12m would be a sounder purchase, those guys dont cost 80k pw

10/11 of a dead jesus (darraghmac), Monday, 22 August 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

How much is Phil Jones on now? I think Redknapp mentioned that his wages put him out of Spurs' reach.

A little bit like Peter Crouch but with more mobility (ShariVari), Monday, 22 August 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

Re. that piece I posted - isn't Mata only (lol) going to be on £55k/wk at Chelsea? Surely Arsenal's wage structure would allow that?

Obviously wanted us to win on Saturday, but kind of horrible to see Wenger like that. Nice to see him and KD shake hands at the start of the match btw, after 'piss off-gate' an' all.

Chris, Monday, 22 August 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

I reckon Jones would be on around 50k a week

Number None, Monday, 22 August 2011 12:24 (fourteen years ago)

So what's thought to be holding up the Nasri deal at this point?
