First, it took like 30 minutes for my friend to get a drink. And when a hot girl can't get a drink within 5 minutes, there's a problem.

I DIED, Thursday, 8 September 2011 05:36 (fourteen years ago)

Then, on the rooftop, a staff member made us move away from the bar for no apparent reason, even though there was a half-naked woman sipping a drink near the edge of the terrace. Were we too close to the bartender's prostitute? Not sure.

Google acquired Zagat today, another bad harbinger for Yelp.

people are yelping about candybars of yesteryear?

kkvgz, Thursday, 8 September 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

wat is a zagat?

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Friday, 9 September 2011 01:17 (fourteen years ago)

i mean srsly I know they've soldiered on behind paywall or whatever but their content is balls and they've been irrelevant since like before there was even an internets, let alone since there was citysearch or whatever. they're like the AOL dialup of guides to places where people eat and drink in public.

i like my zagat guide!

I thought Zagat was just used by rich folks and lazy 60-somethings on vacation (mainly to decide which 4 star expensive restaurants to go to)

omg @ roscoes

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 September 2011 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, but they do apparently have a limited user-review capability on their website and Google will probably try to expand that capability. Especially likely since Google actually tried to buy Yelp in 2009.

The night I had a room at The Spaulding Hotel someone sent me this text: I just walked past the Spauling and saw a seagull eating a pigeon. It made me think of you.

That pretty much sums up the place.

This person's reviews really freak me out. They seem normal to detail-obsessed on first viewing, but it's the sheer accumulation of endless detail without any opinion that makes them so terrifying:

I just wanted to know what my options are. College economics feels like a long time ago. I'm still in the research phase. I talked to Adan Santos about saving for college through estate planning and investing. He discussed 529 plans, money management, and portfolio monitoring.

He recommended basics such as adding to a savings account, setting savings goals, and sticking to a budget. I learned that the beneficiary of the former can be any age, even a retiree. I think he did a good job illustrating investment objectives against charges and risks. There are too many choices (bonds/mutual funds).

Orders are processed in dollars, euros, and pounds. The business is three years old.

While I've always had my eye on their papercut-based maps of London and Paris, I bought family tree posters instead, intending to cut them into baby book layouts or give the other one to my mother-in-law. They're beautiful and whimsical.

fairly convincing distribution of star ratings tbh

not sure how comparable her 5-star rating for her ob/gyn is with her 2-star rating for East Side Mario's Restaurant tho

ilx user 'silby' (silby), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:20 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't really enjoy the spicy crab and spicy tuna rolls. I got prime rib but you have to cut your slice into smaller pieces at the cutting board because that's the only sharp knife. If you want a hand roll it's $0.99. My brother laughed when he realized there was a wedding reception in the private room. My mother chose this location because its less overcrowded than Asia Buffet.

I don't think she understands what a paragraph is

what is the relationship between each of those sentences

Whiney G. Blutfarten (dayo), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:27 (fourteen years ago)

I love these.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:27 (fourteen years ago)

He showed us the Bugaboo Bee and Bumbleride Flyer. I just wanted to look around but the guy is too busy talking to me. We were at odds because I wanted to make my own sales pitch to my boyfriend as a baseline before someone else showed us something more expensive like the Bugaboo Cameleon or Uppababy Vista. I noticed a Stokke Xplory by the glass window but it wasn't as attention-getting as I thought it would be. If we were there for a scheduled consultation like the other group at the store, maybe I could have been introduced to other brands like Aprica, Mountain Buggy, and Phil & Ted.

One model I had never heard of is the German Teutonia t-linx, which has both a reversible handle and seat. Our focus was on single strollers even though they also sell the kind for twins. The salesman asked us if our lifestyle involved jogging and where we lived. That didn't help narrow it down to a few brands. The stock is overwhelming even though the space isn't too large.

In store they don't really advertise that bath toys and bathtubs are for rent. There are baby carriers too but I didn't want to confuse myself even more. They also sell $20 pairs of oversized burp cloths. They let us take one of the strollers around the corner to test its performance up curbs despite the rain. When I got home my mother warned me not to spend too much on this gear because the child will only grow out of it.

"what is the relationship between each of those sentences"

They are all about the same restaurant! She's not auditioning for Food & Wine Magazine or cleverest yelper of the year. She's just stating a bunch of observations as they come to her.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:30 (fourteen years ago)

That one is almost a little story (admittedly one which makes no sense.)

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:32 (fourteen years ago)

I posted on ILX. I felt hungry. My mother called to say I had not sent my brother a card. I cleaned up some trash. Is it 2011 already? I looked at three different colored pieces of paper but couldn't choose the best.

The One Good Taco Place In London (admrl), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:33 (fourteen years ago)

The sushi rolls were good. The transition between a ceremony setup and banquet tables was as long as a few pulls of beer. Yogurt sauce doesn't make the fruit skewer more than okay. You don't really see a sunset over the harbor. It just gets darker.

then it says "Was this review ... ?" but I thought it said "Was this a review ... ?"

lukas, Thursday, 22 September 2011 05:03 (fourteen years ago)

Wow Yelp autism, it's pretty cool, like an autist who has taken onboard that you have to like and dislike things, but without understanding that there is an emotional response which should form the basis for these value judgments.
