i love michael j fox. stoked for that episode tbh. it is called "Larry vs. Michael J. Fox".

caek, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 15:22 (fourteen years ago)

there was a good michael j. fox bit in the season preview trailer, but i won't spoiler it for everyone.

sofatruck, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

This week's was disappointing, kind of cringe-y but not in the good way. Leon was good though - screaming as soon as he walked into the apartment, eating a croissant filled with champagne.

boxall, Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:59 (fourteen years ago)

It is wrong for this show to be in New York. We don't need more shows set in New York!!!

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Thursday, 25 August 2011 02:02 (fourteen years ago)

we don't really need more set in and around LA, either, to be fair.

Clay, Thursday, 25 August 2011 02:03 (fourteen years ago)

oh yes we do

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Thursday, 25 August 2011 02:04 (fourteen years ago)

Next season he should move to Bournemouth.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Thursday, 25 August 2011 02:36 (fourteen years ago)

I was thinking about Bournemouth recently

Pizzataco Five (admrl), Thursday, 25 August 2011 02:37 (fourteen years ago)

I really liked this episode for how committed all the debates were.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 25 August 2011 07:19 (fourteen years ago)

kinda perfunctory... "shit bow" is an instant classic phrase tho

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 August 2011 08:04 (fourteen years ago)

shit bow & leon are my takeaways from this episode

shitbow my fav ep so far this season. i love when larry says he wishes he had a daughter so he could impart leon's advice to her

I'm getting tired of the new gf every episode, they're rarely funny.

boxall, Thursday, 25 August 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

The two New York episodes have been the worst this season IMO.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Friday, 26 August 2011 23:28 (fourteen years ago)

Not sure what you guys are on about, the last episode was classic. Larry David even brings the funny out of Rosie O'Donnell.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 27 August 2011 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

This week's was genuinely the worst episode ever, with the exception of Larry and Jeff in the periscope car, everything fell flat. Such a waste of Wanda as well.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 August 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

Ah, I kind of liked the one-armed man running gag. But yeah, it wasn't the best. Back to LA, Larry.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

For real - the season has dropped off since moving to New York. There was so much comic potential in Larry, Richard, Jeff, Funkhouser and Leon broing down together that's fallen by the wayside. Loved "shit bow" though.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

Sort of thinking the series is suffering from a lack of a really good straight man as well, and there aren't many straight men who are as good as Cheryl.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

otm matt

caek, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 14:41 (fourteen years ago)

But the series has basically traded Cheryl for Leon + Funkhouser. I'll take that deal any day.

The last NYC episode was OK, the previous two were great. The Viagra episode was an all-time classic. Maybe one has to be a baseball fan.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

funkhauser isn't in nyc though : ( and leon was in the last 2 seasons.

caek, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

And neither of those are straight men. And both of them were in it at the same time as Cheryl.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

I meant that the loss of Cheryl has led to a gain in Funkhouser + Leon, roughly in terms of airtime, not the types of characters they play (e.g. the straight man). I like that they've broken away from the old formula. Instead of Larry being grounded somewhat by being with Cheryl, now he's surrounded only with people who act as ridiculously as he does.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:27 (fourteen years ago)

The car periscope episode reminded me of those later season Seinfelds that David didn't write, which relied on Newman or George or someone diving into the camera and Kramer coming up with some wacky invention. But those cliches feel like old vaudevillian or silent film-era comedy gags. The episode was formulaic, but Larry David and Jeff having fun with the periscope and a few other scenes made up for it. I think a weak Curb episode still rates better than most other shows.

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 1 September 2011 00:13 (fourteen years ago)

it actually was a kramer invention!

i've had a bit of a problem with how the new york episodes haven't felt very new yorky. am i wrong about that? couldn't the ricky gervais episode or the car periscope have taken place in LA with just a few changes? if you're gonna move curb to new york at least make a thing of it.

Clay, Thursday, 1 September 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)

But they are! They've gone to Broadway, they play softball in Central Park, Larry's apartment is in a skyscraper ... it's not like a Woody Allen movie where they're always fixated on what it's like to live in New York, but it's clear that these episodes couldn't be taking place anywhere else.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 1 September 2011 11:28 (fourteen years ago)

and im grateful for this! its what i feared the most when they were showing the THIS SEASONS IN NYC promos

I liked it a lot, and it was the first time I've heard of any of the niche North American sport stars it feautured.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 06:20 (fourteen years ago)

Laughed a lot a episode 9, best of this season, especially Susie in the car. Leon was on form too.

Kinda missing Funkhouser & Richard a little though.

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 06:27 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah Leon was great in this ep, he's been great all season though. Bit disappointed by Jeff and Susie so far - Jeff needs to do more conspiring and sneaking around and Susie needs to unleash the fury more often.

Supporting characters were absolutely A++++ in this ep. The softball mechanic dude was hilarious, see also Larry's shrink. If I could laugh and stare in openmouthed horror at the same time I would have been doing that during the "director, let's say he directed Star Wars, he liked to visit prostitutes" scene.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 08:50 (fourteen years ago)

Kinda missing Funkhouser & Richard a little though.

Cosign. Few things make me happier than watching Richard berate Larry over some miniscule point of principle.

Yeah, I had no idea who any of the people were but it wasn't difficult to get it. I wonder if George Lucas is as good a sport as Buckner? What was mystifying was seeing the late Clement Freud playing Larry's therapist.

Ned Trifle X, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 10:41 (fourteen years ago)

And the bonus Jonathan Ames appearance was nice.
