this show will almost certainly end when louis decides he doesn't have anything good to say

uh we're talking about a guy that throws out his whole act and writes a new one like every year while most comics keep telling the same jokes for as long as they can get away with, i don't think he's suddenly gonna go "ok, got it out of my system" at some point.
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:46 (fourteen years ago)
you're misunderstanding me.i'm saying the show is less likely to be cancelled and more that he'll say "i've got doing a regular television show out of my system" and he'll retire in the chris rock method of once every two/three year megatour
― I'm a nerd and nerdy things happened (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)
maybe. seems more like a show in the Curb model where he can just keep pouring out his psyche like a standup act for as long as he feels like without running out of concepts or 'plots' like a regular half hour comedy show.
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:53 (fourteen years ago)
a big theme of the show is his progression as a human being... odds are he'll keep progressing and taking notes on it.
wfmu's twitter stream pointed out that the radio station he was listening to before he turned the dial read 91.1 on the display. in nyc, that's wfmu! dunno whether that was intentional.

i heard it was, as a little production design thing - so cool.(i hate posting anything that'd be considered critical about this show - + this isn't really critical - but, i can't quite stop thinking, the last two seemed like they were put together a little quicker than the others, somehow - either in a more traditional format, or just in terms of more generic music coverage (of like the open mic/montage scene). there was that interview where he talked about them taking a break between filming the first and second halves of the season and i am maybe trying to link that to the eps too much, but they did seem slightly more straightforward).
― bruce actual springsteen (schlump), Saturday, 13 August 2011 21:45 (fourteen years ago)
Whats funny is it was 90.1 in the first shot, then spontaneously became 91.1 in the next shot!

:P sorry i just did not know whether that was an intentional post/dn pairing, i didn't catch that.
some of his jack off acting was great. some of his best. both eps' outro credits were some of the funniest parts.
― bruce actual springsteen (schlump), Saturday, 13 August 2011 21:55 (fourteen years ago)
This show has really fantastic music.

I'm in an airport that has a cinnabon. This has new significance.
― ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Monday, 15 August 2011 17:18 (fourteen years ago)
it's only significant if you buy one on your way home rather than during the wait for the flight.

I've never liked his cinnabon bit because I always felt like he was making fun of me
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 15 August 2011 17:36 (fourteen years ago)
all my life, ever since I was a little kid flying from delta hub to delta hub, sometimes getting to ride in that airport jeep, I have only ever eaten cinnabii in airports
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 15 August 2011 17:38 (fourteen years ago)
I have only eaten them at malls.

Weakest of the season so far tonight, though still watchable. No thematic coherency at all, for a change. I did like the punch-up sequence, though; I've always been curious about those sessions.
― Simon H., Friday, 19 August 2011 06:18 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, that episode didn't really work for me. The punch-up scene had moments but that's about it.
― polyphonic, Friday, 19 August 2011 06:45 (fourteen years ago)
let's all take a moment though to appreciate Older Daughter's Fredrick Douglass costume, and realize that not only did fictional Louie allow his fictional Daughter to go out on halloween cross-dressing in blackface, but real Louis required a 10 year old actress to walk around New York City cross-dressing in blackface.
Otherwise yes while I giggled at the punch-up I'm not sure what was happening here but they can't all be winners I s'pose.
― (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (silby), Friday, 19 August 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
I did like that the opening bit sidestepped expectations a little by not being themed around the Douglass costume.

I like the description my tv gave it:
Louie's Afghanistan adventure.

well i always wanted to make a movie where a guys life is really bad and then something happens and it makes it worse but instead of resolving it he just makes bad choices and then it goes from worse to really bad and things just keep happening to him and he keeps doing dumb things so his life just gets worse and worse and darker and like he has um lives in a little one room apartment, hes not a very good looking guy he has no friends he works in like a factory like a sewage um disposal plant and then he gets fired so he doesnt even have his job at the shit factory anymore and hes and hes goin broke and he takes like a trip and it rains like just stuff like shit keeps horrible...but then he meets a girl...and shes beautiful...and he falls in love so you think thats gonna be the thing the happy thing but then she turns out to be a crook and she robs him she takes his wallet and now hes like stuck in the middle of nowhere and hes got no wallet no credit cards like whatta you do how do you even get home or

Funny that the masturbation bit was in this episode rather than the one about masturbation.
― Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 20 August 2011 01:19 (fourteen years ago)
I'll bet it was gonna be but then he was like "naw that's too much masturbation for this episode, let's push this back a week"; this ep seemed a little bit like…leftoverish in general.
― (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (silby), Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:04 (fourteen years ago)
maybe. weird though because i just yesterday read that article about him where he said he couldn't stand to watch 30 rock or whatever because of his writing room experiences.
― sonderangerbot, Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:08 (fourteen years ago)
oh by the way loved the casting/styling on the writers, so many thick frames and jewy-lookin' dudes.

so should i not watch this one or what? the first few seemed so essential but last week's really..didn't
love the guy though don't get me wrong

― the tuomas clown affair (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:15 (fourteen years ago)
last week's? the Eddie one seemed non-essential?
you should watch them all. the weakest of these is still worth watching. so far.
― Gukbe, Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:23 (fourteen years ago)
really liked the Eddie one tbh. esp the closing standup. hit a little too close to home.

Ellie
Yay, glommed tix to the beacon ahow in november!
― in a fractal nutshell (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 20 August 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)
Ellie was the movie-exec. Eddie was the suicidal comedian friend iirc. I thought Tracer was referring to that ep as non-essential. xpost
― Gukbe, Saturday, 20 August 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)
otm. i think i preferred this to the last couple fwiw, just to balance things out - thematic coherence didn't matter to me so much because it felt like it picked up a range of slightly familiar but varied territory - shit getting real with the guys in costume, cf the bullying ep, & the vapid paramount exec session, cf the unambitious sitcom pilot a few eps back. i don't know, i sincerely get enjoyment out of seeing the guy-with-his-kids bits, they're heartening & dynamically very touching i think. the girl stepping to the guy with her wand was awesome!
