also, i woke up with the nick lowe song "i knew the bride when she used to rock 'n' roll" in my head this morning but the lyrics were replaced by "mauled by a tiger at the san francisco zoo".

Yesterday I was singing Depeche Mode's "Blasphemous Rumours" to the tune of and in the style of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone."

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

No. But we stayed at the Doubletree in Bay City, MI over Christmas. They gave us fresh-baked oatmeal raisin cookies when we checked in.

n/a, Thursday, 27 December 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

Man. It's dead around here. I meant my office, but also ILX.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

same. there are no manuscripts left to be done and i just fiddled with the last of figure files. this would be somewhat tolerable if the ladies who make the coffee were here but it looks like they're closed until january 6th. i've got a lack of caffeine headache.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 December 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

Can you not make coffee?

I guess I could go file some shit. Probably should do that while I have the opportunity before we get busy again, but damn I hate filing.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Honestly I might lie down on couch for a while.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

jesse, i had the same vague anxiety all day yesterday, and nothing bad has happened yet!

colette, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm.... The boss just called and asked if I would water his plants while he is out of the office.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

Can you not make coffee?

i don't have the implements to make coffee here. i have the implements for tea however so i'm hoping there's a suitable amount of caffeine in that.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

I have an outlook meeting request from some plants that I'm supposed to water today.

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

dan m, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

Jesse!

dan m, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

Man. I just had a unexpectedly good slice of pizza and now I want one more. It was from Dominick's. Their panini are good too.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

I am lingering over a styrofoam bowl of chili.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

i made two sandwiches last night and forgot them at home. i fucking *hate* when i do that.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

is the singular of panini panini? panino? paninus?

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

I guess it's panino, but I don't know.

I bought groceries last night and had lunch all planned out (frozen pizza) and left it at home. Annoying.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

i broke a six-pack of red stripe at the grocery store last night. awkward.

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

Food in the UP sucks so I'm contemplating making one of the curry brats I brought to my dad from the Paulina Market.

Aside: Jordan, you need to go to the Paulina Market next time you're in town.

dan m, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

I think I heard that panini is so spelled because panino refers to each of the two slices of bread. I could be wrong, though.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

where's it at?

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:32 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.paulinameatmarket.com/

dan m, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:32 (eighteen years ago)

I almost went to Paulina Market for the first time the other day, since Kr was making a rustic Italian stuffing for her family's Christmas Eve celebration and needed pancetta. But it was closed, so I went to Whole Foods instead (and was then re-directed to the new Whole Foods in Boystown, since the one on Ashland was out of pancetta).

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

A panino (pronounced /pəˈniːnoʊ/) is a sandwich made from a small loaf of bread, typically a ciabatta. The loaf is often cut horizontally and filled with salami, ham, meat, cheese or other food, and sometimes served hot. A grilled panino is buttered on the outside and grilled in a press.

The word "panino" [pa'ni:no] is Italian (literally meaning small bread roll), with the plural panini. "Panini" is often used erroneously in a singular sense by speakers of languages that borrow the word, including English and French, and pluralised when necessary into "paninis" or, even worse, "panini's".

In Italian, panino refers variously to a bread roll and a sandwich, and a paninoteca is a sandwich bar. In Central Italy, there is a popular version of panino which is filled with porchetta, i.e. slices of roasted pork.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, so I was misinformed, then.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)

paninoteca!

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

i've only ever bought pancetta when making spaghetti carbonara.

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

Jesse, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

I just added another chunk of wood to the stove. The curry brat was good, but milder spice-wise than I expected.

dan m, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

BORED AND HUNGRY.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 December 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)
