Right now, they're not showing me anything.
But yeah, I hid a high school friend who had a sweet spot for some weird app game like Farmville. Thing is, her asinine posts still show up on the mobile version. I guess I'll just drop her, but if FB did its job, I wouldn't have to.

Wouldn't let me post the last link I tried to - kept the text I'd written, deleted the link right off the bat, every time I tried.

Im stoked too. Only thing i would really miss would be contact info for all my friends.
― Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
What was funny was opening up the contacts in my HTC after I synced it with my Facebook account and realizing I suddenly have mobile numbers for all these people I don't even want to talk to via FB.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 10 August 2011 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

She's been gone since early March but my baby's back home now. I've been cooking up some of her favorite recipe most of the afternoon and I'll be spending all day with her tomorrow out at Sac Valley Shooting Center. Hopefully she performs as well as she looks now.

Def 1st world problem
― Jeff, Thursday, 18 August 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)
I saw David Tibet mention a while back that he had hit some kind of limit on the number of friends allowed (he befriends fans directly, rather than creating a page for himself/his musical endeavours, and currently has just shy of 5000 friends). I've seen popular figures with more than that though, so perhaps it was too many pending friend requests that was causing the problem for him too.

He would totally be my friend otherwise.
― just call me brian (krakow), Thursday, 18 August 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)
There's a 5000 friend limit but you can create fan pages that people can "like" - that is unlimited and anything posted will appear in the fan's feed. Also means famous people don't need to put up with fan crap appearing in their feeds so they can have an actual friend feed with irl friends on it.

Yeah, I keep getting a "Howabout this dude" friend 'suggestion' for John Lydon.
I clicked it, and got the message "he has to know you personally".
OK, BUT I DIDN'T ASK IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

FB ethics question: Some lunatic that I once had lunch with a few years ago wrote a screed about me (including the lolzy claim that I'm a 'douchebag hipster') on a friend's status message that I had commented on. The status message was about GRRM and I was complaining that he's not a very good writer, which is what provoked this guy. Anyway, I never speak to this person irl and had no idea he had such strongly held feelings about me. I blocked him on FB so I wouldn't have to deal with him again and asked my friend to take down the post denouncing me. My friend however claimed that he didn't want to censor the other guy and remove his message. I forced the issue and ultimately it was taken down but here's the question: Should my friend just have taken it down immediately bc friends don't let crazy ppl be jerks to friends on facebook, was he right that you shouldn't censor anyone, even if it's a personal attack on YOUR status message, or option (3) lulz internet?
― Mordy, Friday, 19 August 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)
friends don't let crazy ppl be jerks to friends on facebook
^^^^^this above all else is mandatory
― lex pretend, Friday, 19 August 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)
I guess it sort of depends on the particular details of the situation. Is there any chance the guy was joking? If it were me and the guy was obviously just being an asshole needlessly I probably would have deleted the comment without having to be asked. So, in short, Lex OTM.
― ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Friday, 19 August 2011 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

― Mordy, Friday, 19 August 2011 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

― ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Friday, 19 August 2011 18:13 (fourteen years ago)

― ice cr?m, Friday, 19 August 2011 18:15 (fourteen years ago)
Yes he should have deleted that. What the hell. It's Facebook, not a public forum for opinions.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:09 (fourteen years ago)
Wait, that's not right. I mean it's this person's Facebook page and this person is not the government and this anti-Mordy comment is not political speech and somebody's FB wall isn't a public space.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:11 (fourteen years ago)
So getting all lofty about not wanting to censor someone who says shitty things about your friends is kind of misplaced, imo.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
if a friend of mine let another person badmouth me on fb and didn;t remove the post i'd consider that person a bad friend. "My friend however claimed that he didn't want to censor the other guy and remove his message." = this person needs to get a grip, maybe, it's fb not parliament.

(3) lulz internet
― Kerm, Saturday, 20 August 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)
There's this thing that has happened over the last 6 months or so on Facebook and I am unsure whether it is a bug or a feature.
1) I friend someone
2) Their Add Friend button turns grey and becomes Friend Requested
3) They are listed as my friend under Events that are both invited to and I see status updates from them, however, they continue to show as just Friend Requested and I can't post on their wall, see the details that are made private, &c. Moreover the button remains grey with the Friend Requested legend.
What's going on here? They haven't rejected the request, coz then it would say Add Friend again. But they don't appear to have accepted it either. Weird.
― Grandpont Genie, Friday, 26 August 2011 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
that is weird. i'd email em directly.

the people, FB isn't gonna care
― some jock-bully out to take down the hipsters (history mayne), Friday, 26 August 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)
if you friend someone and they have their status privacy set to friends of friends youll see their updates in yr feed before they act upon your request
― ice cr?m, Friday, 26 August 2011 15:04 (fourteen years ago)
If you get a friend request now, the default option isn't to deny, it's to defer. So unaccepted friend requests can sit in limbo, forever, and do not appear on that screen.

The new 'On This Day In xxxx' feature is both at times interesting and horribly depressing. I dread some of the reminders of the past that are to come as the year progresses...
― just call me brian (krakow), Saturday, 27 August 2011 10:35 (fourteen years ago)

You can set it so some (or all) ppl cant post on yr wall/see yr updates/etc with group filters, they may have added you but put you in a "dont show anything" group. Ive done that to some people (mostly fam). So theyre "added" but they still cant see or do anything on my profile.
― Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Saturday, 27 August 2011 10:39 (fourteen years ago)
yes unless friend was going for secret option c, let the badmouther look like the jerk he is to all mutual friends. (but still not a good option given your polite request)

also the way status updates are done, it seems like its now designed to trick you into tagging your location
― (gr8080), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 00:10 (fourteen years ago)
not as bad as when twitter added per-post location tagging and most twitter apps did the one-time check to see if they could grab your location, then tag it into every post by default
