sill completely insane

Clearly they are keeping an eye on Walt and Jesse, at least to some extent.
My guess is they are taking Jesse to Gus's trailer park office, for some sort of moment of truth talk. Or perhaps they will dangle it over Jesse's head that he may one day take over for Walt, if ... something should happen ... to Walt. Other possibility is that they're going to try and trick Walt into killing Jesse (why they'd do that, I don't know). But inevitably Walt and Jesse will get their collective shit together and find a way to take out Gus, though I still suspect they will have Skyler kill Gus. Or maybe they'll plant a bomb on baby "Holly," two birds with one stone, etc.
Don't always mean to carp on Holly, btw ... OK yes, I do. As the parent of two small kids, I find all the meth machinations far more plausible than Skyler's baby affording her so much freedom. Babies may be easier to make than meth, but after that it's 24/7 hard work.
Also, there's no way Hank knows anything about Walt. That was actually a rare instance of bad direction, since the misdirection was so baldfaced.

it's like reading the last chapter of a mystery novel first, kinda defeats the purpose of a show that puts so much stock in tension and surprise
xp

The thing with me and murder mysteries, though, is I never cared who did it. I read tons of them, but was always more interested in the construction, whether the author "played fair," placed clues and red herrings well, etc.
― L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 21:50 (fourteen years ago)
Holly is in the car with Skyler pretty much every time Skyler is out and in a car so I'm not sure what you want to see here. Or why you want to see it. A 100% accurate portrayal of parenting an infant is going to be really boring.

It's more like reading the middle chapter first.
Or more specifically, in my case: like reading the first chapter first and then the middle chapter second.

Don't think BB is particularly striving for realism. Gus' criminal empire is a bit on the cartoony side, for example. It does strive for emotional honesty though, and achieves it.

all I'm saying is spoilering this show for yourself will deprive you of many moments of shouting "holy shit!" at the tv, which I think is a big part of the fun
xxps
― big triffid in my backyard (Edward III), Tuesday, 9 August 2011 22:02 (fourteen years ago)
I think I'll still say holy shit a bunch of times. But I wanted to share the experience of watching the new episodes with my pals and didn't have time to fully catch up.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)
But all your pals will hate you because you read summaries instead of watching two of the best seasons of tv ever.
― Number None, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 22:36 (fourteen years ago)
They don't seem to hate me!
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)
Trust me, that's what they're saying when you're not there
― Number None, Tuesday, 9 August 2011 22:38 (fourteen years ago)
yeah skipping seasons w/ this show is def crazy.

lol but not altogether unlikely, either: Gus & co. have been known to plant bugs as needed - would miniature secret cameras really be that absurd to contemplate? considering that Jesse's place is already basically open to the 'public' anyway, the boomin system is prob the perfect place for micro-surveillance gizmos

yeah, but it would be sorta awesome if there were a camera in the stereo
just sayin

I have often wondered if Saul's hair is meant to be a syrup, but it looks like Odenkirk has just grown it that way for the role
He has p much the same hairstyle in Larry Sanders btw! it is his code for "shifty blowhard"

"World" whatever
I dunno, Rick Astley hasn't been brutally murdered. Gale is a bit more disturbing
― Number None, Thursday, 11 August 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)
i wouldn't really call it ~brutally~ murdered. it was just one shot, right?
― tehresa, Thursday, 11 August 2011 02:37 (fourteen years ago)
maybe i should consult my lab notes .
one of the beautiful ironies of this show to me is that gale is easily the kindest, gentlest person that has been on it, but he also sold out Walt and didn't warn him that he was soon to be killed.
― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 11 August 2011 03:27 (fourteen years ago)
He didn't know. Gus told him Walt was going to die of cancer.
― ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Thursday, 11 August 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
yes and it was clear that Gale knew that was BS
― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 11 August 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
gale gave a conservative estimate of how long it would take him to learn everything. and then gus coldly asked him to bump that timespan down and Gale realized what was up.

i don't think there's a show without Jesse. Walt & Jesse are the only characters that the show can't go on without imho.

― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)
They could always put Jesse in jail, which keeps him alive but out of the picture.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:56 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah you need Walt & Jesse together, they're the double act at the centre. Jesse's the livewire that provides the unpredictability and excitement.
So many amazing character touches in this episode, Walt & Skylar obviously. And all the little details in Gail's notebook. He's going to keep providing lolz way after death. Another part was when Walter Jr sat down with Hank to hear about minerals and when Walt started up on the same subject it was suddenly "argh, boring", and you realise Junior's developing a stronger father/son bond with Hank than Walt (and obviously Walt's developing a stronger one with Jesse than with his own son).
Bit with Mike's ear was disgusting, but loved the look of grumpy mild annoyance on his face.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 11 August 2011 15:56 (fourteen years ago)
maybe the entire show ends w/walt killing jesse as thats really the main thing he wont do that a irl ice cold drug lord would
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 11 August 2011 23:37 (fourteen years ago)

Oh wow I hadn't thought of that. Amazing. And his new baby's barely in the picture anymore.
Last year started to lose me a bit toward the end, but this year it's been smashing sixes left right and centre. I love how the actor playing Gus is hardly ever on screen but his character is strong enough to resonate (mainly but not solely via the CC cam in the lab). AMC/Sony must be paying him some serious bucks per minute.
