I keep thinking someone who knew him when (a middle school friend or something?) will come back and remind Jesse that he wants to live and that there are people out in the world who care about him. He needs to get out of the proverbial neighborhood, for real.

i was wondering... he still has a landlord, right? i mean, did mr air traffic controller sell the place? either way someone must own it, and i'm sure the neighbours aren't happy about the lot getting turned into junkie-central-station.

He moved out of there and bought his old house back? To piss off his parents or sthg?

The tweakers are like zombies. I mean the arrangement/presentation of the tweakers is similar to the presentation of zombies in ensemble zombie moves. You've got the goofy one (airport bone scan man), the business tweaker (dude in tie), the cunning one (Dave Navarro), etc. They have little personalities.

i think the "conversation" he had with Walt at the bar is more his thing.

was it explained who those guys were and why mike was chillin inside? i found it v confusing

its never stated outright but i figured:

- the cartels have been hijacking and destroying gus' shipments as payback/attempts to muscle back in to the market
- gus + mike arranged a decoy shipment w/ only chicken batter in order to catch the cartel guys at work

xp guys were rival cartel
mike was chillin inside because gus SEES THE BIG PICTURE and realized just such a thing might happen
i love how this show makes it clear that walt's massive fucktacular disaster world is just a small part of gus' bigger empire and that dude has bigger fish to fry in the long run

or chicken as the case may be amirite

i thought the buckets were filled with chemicals for meth though, not chicken batter and that this was not a decoy shipment so much as mike being johnny-on-the-spot but maybe i'm wrong?

We have no way of knowing so no need to speculate.

it was shown in earlier eps that gus distributes meth via those buckets of batter, that's how he runs his supply chain lol

Shootout reminded me of "The Wild Bunch" (the editing), with the flying blood replaced by chicken batter (or meth ingredients, w/e)

That's a really good question. I wondered the same thing -- did he just chase after Dave Navarro when he absconded with the money bag or what?

i think it is implicit at this point that there is a fairly sophisticated surveillance system in place that we see only one side of, via Mike & Victor shadowy new dude.

there was a quick shot maybe two episodes ago of the new enforcer that replaced victor sitting outside jesse's place watching it. he was also in the background during the scene where mike confronts jesse w/ the stolen money. gilligan has also stated that the new guy is the one who called walter when was outside gus's place in the second (?) episode. so basically:

- gus and/or mike asks the new guy to keep tabs on walter and jesse after the boxcutter
- so theyve p much always known jesse was losing control
- hes been watching jesses place to make sure things dont get too out of hand
- he sees the guy leave in a hurry w/ a big duffel bag and stops him to check it out

i mean i can also see saul's paranoia about having been bugged been a bit of misdirected foreshadowing: you think hes worried about law enforcement but hes actually concerned that gus/mike have him bugged ('they havent mentioned me have they?') but it still doesnt really seem as plausible

also his affinity for the payphone

Clearly they are keeping an eye on Walt and Jesse, at least to some extent.

My guess is they are taking Jesse to Gus's trailer park office, for some sort of moment of truth talk. Or perhaps they will dangle it over Jesse's head that he may one day take over for Walt, if ... something should happen ... to Walt. Other possibility is that they're going to try and trick Walt into killing Jesse (why they'd do that, I don't know). But inevitably Walt and Jesse will get their collective shit together and find a way to take out Gus, though I still suspect they will have Skyler kill Gus. Or maybe they'll plant a bomb on baby "Holly," two birds with one stone, etc.

Don't always mean to carp on Holly, btw ... OK yes, I do. As the parent of two small kids, I find all the meth machinations far more plausible than Skyler's baby affording her so much freedom. Babies may be easier to make than meth, but after that it's 24/7 hard work.

Also, there's no way Hank knows anything about Walt. That was actually a rare instance of bad direction, since the misdirection was so baldfaced.

it's like reading the last chapter of a mystery novel first, kinda defeats the purpose of a show that puts so much stock in tension and surprise
