Lucky Louie was shot in LA fwiw
― polyphonic, Monday, 8 August 2011 00:27 (fourteen years ago)
considering that he had some freedom to do "edgy" material on Lucky Louie, I imagined that sitcom in the last episode to be some nameless pilot he worked on that never went anywhere, and not Lucky Louie.

speaking of vacuuming up other people's ideas, there was a bit of m maron's WTF going on in that scene with dane cook
― Dark Noises from the Eurozone (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 11 August 2011 23:12 (fourteen years ago)
How is that vacuuming up other people's ideas, exactly
― polyphonic, Thursday, 11 August 2011 23:34 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah. I mean, Dane Cook talking about people accusing him of stealing jokes wasn't solely the property of WTF...and the "beef" was between him and Louis anyway, so...
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 12 August 2011 01:52 (fourteen years ago)
So - the guy from The Man Show who looked, pre-Louie ep, like a walking mugshot deserves an Emmy.
― OWLS 3D (R Baez), Friday, 12 August 2011 03:42 (fourteen years ago)
I've never seen The Man Show, but Doug Stanhope turns up a lot in the UK on various things. He's pretty funny. He was great here.

― polyphonic, Friday, 12 August 2011 07:16 (fourteen years ago)
i just meant the format - confessional confrontation between comedians - reminded of Maron's show
― Dark Noises from the Eurozone (Tracer Hand), Friday, 12 August 2011 09:15 (fourteen years ago)
don't worry, i'm not accusing louis CK of stealing or whatever
ENBB, when you told me you were heading to the airport id be lying if i didnt hope for a moment you'd hit some turbulence and start shouting 'BABIES WITH AIDS BABIES WITH AIDS'

according to CK 5 eps still remain? I guess there's 14 in this season then.

loretta swit is no sally kellerman
― dance cook (get bent), Saturday, 13 August 2011 01:53 (fourteen years ago)
ha, you could totally see stanhope getting that kinda todd-barry-in-the-wrestler, patton-oswalt-in-big-fan call of low-life comic as regular person in movies.
i've loved him whenever i've seen him but sorta found him more and more difficult over the past couple of years, basically for reasons that neatly dovetail with him being at the end of the rope as per the second ep.
― bruce actual springsteen (schlump), Saturday, 13 August 2011 02:15 (fourteen years ago)
I did the math the other day and worked out that an entire season of Louie (roughly 200k-250k an episode going by the pilot's budget) is cheaper than (or at least roughly equivalent to the cost of) one episode of Breaking Bad ($3.2 million) - and recently their ratings have been pretty similar. So yeah, kind of a no-brainer.

60-minute shows bring in twice as much ad revenue as 30-minute shows fyi
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 02:38 (fourteen years ago)
cool man but by that math a single ep of breaking bad costs 12x as much as an ep of Louie so who cares
― remembrance of schwings past (gbx), Saturday, 13 August 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)
oh i know i'm just saying that's one factor (of many) that you're not considering
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 03:04 (fourteen years ago)
anyway up until the last few episodes i basically liked the standup segments and rolled my eyes at most of the rest of the show, but now i feel like a fan. not as big a fan as you drooling diehards, but still yeah, good show.
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 03:05 (fourteen years ago)
tbf the only thing I was considering was an inconsequential mathematical observation
I'm sure you're right about that other stuff, though. Louie is def a niche show and probably not the same kind of earner as breaking bad. still: it's cheap, it gets ratings! It's beloved by message board dweebs and critics! why not re-up
― remembrance of schwings past (gbx), Saturday, 13 August 2011 03:12 (fourteen years ago)
this show will almost certainly end when louis decides he doesn't have anything good to say

uh we're talking about a guy that throws out his whole act and writes a new one like every year while most comics keep telling the same jokes for as long as they can get away with, i don't think he's suddenly gonna go "ok, got it out of my system" at some point.
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:46 (fourteen years ago)
you're misunderstanding me.i'm saying the show is less likely to be cancelled and more that he'll say "i've got doing a regular television show out of my system" and he'll retire in the chris rock method of once every two/three year megatour
― I'm a nerd and nerdy things happened (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)
maybe. seems more like a show in the Curb model where he can just keep pouring out his psyche like a standup act for as long as he feels like without running out of concepts or 'plots' like a regular half hour comedy show.
― some dude, Saturday, 13 August 2011 13:53 (fourteen years ago)
a big theme of the show is his progression as a human being... odds are he'll keep progressing and taking notes on it.
wfmu's twitter stream pointed out that the radio station he was listening to before he turned the dial read 91.1 on the display. in nyc, that's wfmu! dunno whether that was intentional.
― dance cook (get bent), Saturday, 13 August 2011 17:07 (fourteen years ago)
i heard it was, as a little production design thing - so cool.(i hate posting anything that'd be considered critical about this show - + this isn't really critical - but, i can't quite stop thinking, the last two seemed like they were put together a little quicker than the others, somehow - either in a more traditional format, or just in terms of more generic music coverage (of like the open mic/montage scene). there was that interview where he talked about them taking a break between filming the first and second halves of the season and i am maybe trying to link that to the eps too much, but they did seem slightly more straightforward).
― bruce actual springsteen (schlump), Saturday, 13 August 2011 21:45 (fourteen years ago)
Whats funny is it was 90.1 in the first shot, then spontaneously became 91.1 in the next shot!

:P sorry i just did not know whether that was an intentional post/dn pairing, i didn't catch that.
some of his jack off acting was great. some of his best. both eps' outro credits were some of the funniest parts.
