yeah don't be hinting at spoilers, its almost as bad as the spoilers themselves to anyone who's smart enough to actually ~make inferences~

i don't wanna start a big tumult about this, but i didn't spoil anything and if you think any of these books don't contain numerous deaths you totally haven't gotten this series (and you probably didn't watch the first season of the show yet)

nods, winks, etc to specific deaths should be avoided. it would also be preferable for people reading the books to not know when or whenabouts in a book there is a HUGE SHOCK because then they'll be looking for it and expecting something etc.

Still, saying that people fucking die at some point in these books is not a spoiler at all.

Don't think anyone has been particularly spoilery so far TBH, I've heard the later books are dramatic and I expect that to involve people dying.

Knowing GRRM's rep for killing characters is one thing, but when you start indicating whereabouts these deaths happen, that's the beginning of some poor form. I definitely land on the paranoid end of spoilers (if that wasn't immensely clear already), because in the case of ASOIAF, I wanted those deaths to be as sudden and horrifying as Ned's was, but if at certain points in a book I'm starting to wonder if it's this character or that character, I'm not sure the actual death's going to have that effect on me.

That's why I'd hope that people err on the side of caution, because once the cat's out of the bag, that horse has left the barn.

I mean, it's definitely an asymmetrical dynamic and a possible burden for fans who aren't Spoiler Nazis Socialists, but getting specific again, this thread is for the TV show, *not* what's happened in Storm of Swords (or at least till/if the show catches up with SOS).

Just finished zooming through bks 1-4, but have no appetite for 5 after the ball-ache of 4. That's some sub-Silmarillion world-building-not-story-telling tedium, right there.

He's not for all tastes, of course-- he totally goes for it theatrically with different voices for different characters. I love it. You haven't lived till you've heard the grizzled Dotrice act out Jon Snow's SPOILER REMOVED with the SPOILER REMOVED girl

so far today i have gotten no work done

i'm inclined to say just read the first three and stop, then wait for the last 4 to be finished to read together.
