OK Louis I am on the one computer I use that I have not (yet) installed killfile on so I am going to give you some very serious advice: DO NOT POST SHIT LIKE THAT ON THE INTERNET. IT IS THE INTERNET. ANYONE CAN FIND IT. THINK OF THIS FACT. unless of course you have no problem with any random person you know finding these tales, in which case um.

jessie monster, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

oh for fuck's sake STOP PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH ALL OF YOU
It's what you said, more or less. You think everyone posts all the details of their lives here. To think that, you must think their lives are pretty boring or mundane, to think you're seeing all of it. Few people post here in as explicit detail as you do.

.stet., Monday, 12 March 2007 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

lol xpost.

jessie monster, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Tombot, why are you being such a cunt?

I don't think he is being one at all. I'd say it's very irritating having this pop up everywhere but I am actually enjoying this for some reason, slow day at work perhaps or something a bit more "oh that was me a few years ago, thank goodness there was no internet for me to globally show what a tit I was being." Personally I think that you're a bit of a fool and that some day you will regret what you have posted on ILX more than you can ever imagine. Unfortunately being aware that one's actions have consequences is only something you will understand with a few more years. In this age of traceability you have guaranteed that in future someone (possibly even a relation) will find all of this and what you did as a young man will ruin something very important to you in future. That is all I have to say about it, I've said it to you before: Not all attention is good attention and negative attention is the worst of all.

LJ, I don't know you but I care as in it does worry me to see someone do something so stupid. Personally I'm getting back to the LOLz but I do think you should consider it. You're smart, use that big ol' brain and think next time before putting something so damning on the internet.

kv_nol, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

oh btw you guys I made an eyewash thread on noize board full of cute baby animals and giant robots to cleanse your minds. don't read ethan's post though, it's not nice.

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Shit! I didn't mean to post the whole thing, I just meant to pull out a couple of paragraphs! Argh!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, so you all think his story is true?

StanM, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

Administrator, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

what was originally quite a funny reaction (for the first 50-60 posts) has turned into a mean-spirited takedown of the so-called 'narcissistic fuckers' and the 'idiots' of the world, of which I'm plainly a founding member. I'd just like to say that you are acting like cunts. My posts were of the roll-eyes wow-that-was-stupid-but-kinda-funny-eh variety, now I'm some sort of monster who seeks to spread his network of egomania across the internet (read: one thread on a messageboard) and pollute the minds of all and sundry.

Ally's advice is probably sound, however, so I'll stop. Only this, however: Nobody would have been able to find this thread unless it had my name sprinkled all over it. You were the ones that did this. Not me.

My point about everyone posting details of their lives here was an EXAGGERATION, granted, but I don't for a second mean to suggest that everyone here leads a dull life, I know for a fact that most of you don't!

unfished business, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

These are the paragraphs I wanted to highlight:

It’s hard to pinpoint when the change began. Was it 1992, the first season of The Real World? (Or maybe the third season, when cast members began to play to the cameras? Or the seventh, at which point the seven strangers were so media-savvy there was little difference between their being totally self-conscious and utterly unself-conscious?) Or you could peg the true beginning as that primal national drama of the Paris Hilton sex tape, those strange weeks in 2004 when what initially struck me as a genuine and indelible humiliation—the kind of thing that lost former Miss America Vanessa Williams her crown twenty years earlier—transformed, in a matter of days, from a shocker into no big deal, and then into just another piece of publicity, and then into a kind of power.

But maybe it’s a cheap shot to talk about reality television and Paris Hilton. Because what we’re discussing is something more radical if only because it is more ordinary: the fact that we are in the sticky center of a vast psychological experiment, one that’s only just begun to show results. More young people are putting more personal information out in public than any older person ever would—and yet they seem mysteriously healthy and normal, save for an entirely different definition of privacy. From their perspective, it’s the extreme caution of the earlier generation that’s the narcissistic thing. Or, as Kitty put it to me, “Why not? What’s the worst that’s going to happen? Twenty years down the road, someone’s gonna find your picture? Just make sure it’s a great picture.”

And after all, there is another way to look at this shift. Younger people, one could point out, are the only ones for whom it seems to have sunk in that the idea of a truly private life is already an illusion. Every street in New York has a surveillance camera. Each time you swipe your debit card at Duane Reade or use your MetroCard, that transaction is tracked. Your employer owns your e-mails. The NSA owns your phone calls. Your life is being lived in public whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

I mean, as someone who has had their internet honesty come back and bite them in some horrible ways, I don't necessarily agree with this. But it is very much an opinion that is out there.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

jaymc.xls to thread.

Are you nuts, Louis? Somebody wants to find you, they google Louis Jagger and get BAN LOUIS JAGGER up. Then they follow your username history to the present day, search for all posts by your username in super-advanced ILX v7.2 search form and ooh, hello, what's this about him tossing some dude off at university? Hold page 6!

stet, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Gah, I was hoping the Louis grody sitch talk had subsided into the skipping messages hyperlink by this point and I could tell everybody how trumpet girl came back over without that guy (whose douchyness isn't unseen by her, awesome) and we made beautiful music and beer drinkenings together, and when she was leaving I think we tried to kiss but then there was this horrible animal dying noise and then we giggled and the kiss moment was ruined, LOL better luck next time.

out of all my posts on ILX, they'd automatically look through every single one until they found this thread?

i'm not working for an employer who does that sort of shit.

A journo would, if you were trying to become someone important.

Not yet at least.

Hmph.

unfished business, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not working for an employer who does that sort of shit.

You will be. At some point, you will be. Trust me.

Or worse, yet, if you can get this through your adolescent brain, at some point you may be attempting to *date* someone who does.

A couple of years ago, I went through a horrific breakup, and posted every gorey bloody detail on ILX, as a way of getting it out. Fast forward a couple of months, the first guy I meet who shows a romantic interest in me is someone I meet through ILX. On our first date, he asks (nice guy, mind you, to ASK) if he can google me. Up comes all of that awful horrible shit. He runs a mile. Bye-bye goes relationship.

You might not be thinking of that sort of thing now, but imagine you meet the love of your life - or even just a nice filly you'd like to date - and through a couple of clicks she comes up with the story of you trying to lose your hetero and homo sexual virginity on a dare at a drunken college party? Bye-bye relationship.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

We did have a Scottish tabloid sniffing round here over something a couple of years back, didn't we?

kv_nol, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

louis i hope this doesn't get lost in the noise of everyone losing their temper and dom passantino wanting your life, but seriously:

you've got to quit talking about yourself. please, it's a bad habit and a bad habit-of-mind. i'm more concerned about the OTHER KIDS who you were fucking around with who probably don't want THEIR evening all over the internet--someone knows what you were up to and could put it all together. ok, you had a kerraaaazeee night, DON'T KISS AND TELL, it's just tactless. don't backtrack about this shit, you were bragging, you've got to quit, it's lame!

gff, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

LOUIS JAGGER DRAG WANK-A-THON causing MASSIVE VIRAL INFECTION throughout the Internets. SHOCKED ILXORS reduced to WALLOWING IN THE SPILLAGE. Does this signal NEW ERA OF SHAME or just more POINTLESS POPPAGE? Latest indicators lead to SWELLING INTEREST. What ROUGH SEX BEAST now SLOUCHES TOWARD SODOM to be born?

Edward III, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I remember once when there was the wife of some fellow who was in the papers for getting arrested for being a racist or something, she was posting here how awful it all was and next week she was getting quoted verbatim from ILX by some bitch reporter who didn't read the FAQ, not that it mattered one bit.

TOMBOT, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

this might seem circular to you louis but some people would be turned off by your lack of decorum and common sense

Pashmina, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

I had forgotten about that, yeah. Also ILX getting quoted verbatim in the national and international because of threads of people desperately trying to find friends during 9/11 and 7/7 - Ned and I were just talking about that. :-(

Sadly, they might. It would depend on what position you were going for. MP, maybe not. Education Secretary? You bet this would come up. With photos.

Can we lock this now destroyed crush thread and make a new one?

hahaha nice try, but no

elmo argonaut, Monday, 12 March 2007 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

If I could see how to de-index threads on nu-ILX I'd do this one. But this is out there in the public domain now, it's going to be *very difficult* to wipe out all mentions of it from now on and I'm not sure anyone wants to play whack-a-mole* with L0u1s J4gg3r s3x st0r1es.

I suppose you can be thankful your antics didn't give anyone the opportunity to make the 'PUT YR HANDS UP L0U1S J4GGER' joke.

*No pun intended.

Matt DC, Monday, 12 March 2007 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

I was the first person to ever make that joke on ILX! Except that Dom was the target, obviously.

Seriously, though, this was all intended as a bit of drunken-fun shame-confessional distraction. Those who laughed, mocked, and entered into the uproarious spirit got the idea. Those who theorised about narcissism and idiocy may have had a separate point, but it wasn't what my post warranted. What I was doing wasn't narcissism, it was self-flagellating 'I KONFESS ;_;'-style amusement.

Now I'm feeling really, really, really bad. Not about what I did, mind (it's still quite funny), but about posting it on a site where your every move is dissected, roasted, exaggerated, judged, and thrown back atcha. Shoulda guessed, maybe...
