i had a bourbon & coke tonight but there was so little bourbon left that it hardly made a dent in my sobriety.

apihopatcong weehawkul (get bent), Sunday, 31 July 2011 05:41 (twelve years ago) link

but did you at least put a twist in your sobriety?

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 05:42 (twelve years ago) link

Sorry, when you've done as many crosswords as I have, Enya is never far from your mind. Although I probably don't need to explain that to the creator of ochocinco flow.

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 05:50 (twelve years ago) link

b-b-but that song is by tanita tikaram?

NYT X-word mainstays: Enya vs. Eno

notes on camping (Pillbox), Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:06 (twelve years ago) link

Oh yeah, JBR. what was I thinking. In fact, one time there was an xword clue that was something like "1963 Album ___ in Paris." I had E_ _ A and reflexively put in ENYA.

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:17 (twelve years ago) link

Probably even said "1963 Jazz album"

I had a recurring nightmare around age 11 or 12 where I was trapped in the video for orinoco flow with the "sail away" part playing over and over

Actually don't think I remember hearing either "Orinoco Flow" or "Twist In My Sobriety" until just now. I must have been ill in 1988.

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:33 (twelve years ago) link

ohh my. a dastardly friend began feeding me gin after my gf went home. an unexpected* twist!

i'm watching enya videos now fyi i hope u all are happy

arby's, Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:36 (twelve years ago) link

Me too. I think Cameron ripped off the "Orinoco Flow" video for Titanic.

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:38 (twelve years ago) link

we're being absolute cheap-asses about it, but we're very picky too. it's a weird venn diagram of needs.

I applaud the usage of venn diagrams for describing and analyzing interpersonal relationships.

i won't buy used furniture. can't deal with the possibility of bedbugs.

apihopatcong weehawkul (get bent), Sunday, 31 July 2011 07:50 (twelve years ago) link

Even a table and chairs? Assuming dining room type chairs, they seem less buggable.

Lame ass Saturday night. Out of the blue this girl I was obviously into ... we almost had a thing going when she had a boyfriend (it was rumored that she wanted to leave him for me at the time) ... contacts me out of the blue to hang out and tells me she broke up with him. I think, "wow, maybe it'll finally happen!" Then we hang out, and she brings along some guy she's hooking up with. Who does that? Do people think at all? Feels like some kind-of cosmic humiliation.

Spectrum, Sunday, 31 July 2011 08:43 (twelve years ago) link

I fell asleep at 10:00. Rockin' good times round here.

ladies love draculas like children love stray dogs (ENBB), Sunday, 31 July 2011 11:07 (twelve years ago) link

i just curled up & fell asleep in my clothes last night, at some point later making the position to pulling a blanket over me. actually counts as a good saturday night, really, i never recognise that i'm tired & then fall asleep rather than stubbornly resisting it, usually. falling asleep in my clothes & falling asleep on my couch still feel like signs of pride and autonomy in being an adult to me.

sitcom neighbor (schlump), Sunday, 31 July 2011 11:16 (twelve years ago) link

ouch @ Spectrum ;_;

I always sleep in my clothes

shastakrautpasta (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 31 July 2011 13:58 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i am kinda into it occasionally, it is a decadent/dirtbag thing. the only thing i hate is not getting to wash my face before sleep.

this thread reminds me that i have, for a year, had a dining table with no chairs. i should probably do something about this.

late to the party but my saturday night included going on a bike ride with my dad + bf, watching airplanes take off/land, riding back, going to dinner where i ate delicious wood oven pizza and ordered a beer because it was called "fade to black" and there were 180 beers to choose from. bonus: it was awesome, like drinking manhattan special + alcohol, and the label is sweet:

• Worrying about the 22-month-old napping so late, but it's nice to have a little time to sit here in the office.

• Writing angry emails to Kroger.

• About to open my first beer of the night. Might go wake the boy up afterward.

the ID3 tag was messed up for one of the tracks on the mute compilation. the song ("cloud chamber") is by a swedish indiepop band named easy, but the artist was tagged as eazy-e!

went to best buy to get our replacement tv for the one they are junking out. thought we were going to pay $100 difference (approved replacement tv was of lower value than the one we wanted) but somehow the manager just decided to give it to us (yay). then they couldn't figure out how to set it all up in the system. 3+ hours later we left with the promise that they'll call tomorrow to square everything away.
