suspense and anticipation in orange county and hstngs.

^a weird sentence to type, and yet it's truth.

arby's, Sunday, 31 July 2011 01:35 (twelve years ago) link

yay for ned.

i just got home from trawling furniture closeout stores (and "living spaces," yeesh, so expensive!). the winner seems to be michael's in van nuys, which is great cuz they have a wonderfully low-budget local commercial.

apihopatcong weehawkul (get bent), Sunday, 31 July 2011 01:38 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks all (and hope it all goes good for you too arby's!) Yeah we're likely going to be doing the same furniture trawling round here soon; our two big goals are a sofa and a dining table/chairs.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 31 July 2011 01:40 (twelve years ago) link

our two big goals are a sofa and a dining table/chairs.

that is EXACTLY what a. and i are looking for. we're being absolute cheap-asses about it, but we're very picky too. it's a weird venn diagram of needs.

apihopatcong weehawkul (get bent), Sunday, 31 July 2011 01:44 (twelve years ago) link

Hahah. Clearly we're on a VERY similar wavelength here.

Packed all day. Made what might be the single most adult/yuppie furniture purchase of my life today, in which I actually went to a Design Within Reach showroom and paid for four dining chairs. They were on sale $94 each, which is almost higher-end ikea territory, but still by far the most I've paid for chairs in my life. Not to mention just the weird feeling of going to a Design Within Reach showroom and actually making a purchase.

ha, yes. kg and i had the fortune for these to fall in our laps as soon as we identified the need; she was able to score a nice roche bobois sofa in good shape from a generous friend/neighbor, and our table and chairs...well those are just a card table folding chairs her parents wanted to get rid of. this works.

xxp

earlier tonight: delicious belgian ales in fancy glasses @ reasonably happening nightspot

now: rolling rock in a can @ home

decided to stay away from the hard stuff tonight, as I actually have to get up tomorrow morning. still, it would be nice to conjure even a mild beer buzz, which I can't seem to do nowadays b/c I've ratcheted up my booze tolerance to such absurd levels over the years. i guess I could shotgun some steel reserve or something, but nah..

chinese food (sesame chicken, spring rolls) and L&O reruns.

i had a bourbon & coke tonight but there was so little bourbon left that it hardly made a dent in my sobriety.

apihopatcong weehawkul (get bent), Sunday, 31 July 2011 05:41 (twelve years ago) link

but did you at least put a twist in your sobriety?

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 05:42 (twelve years ago) link

Sorry, when you've done as many crosswords as I have, Enya is never far from your mind. Although I probably don't need to explain that to the creator of ochocinco flow.

NYT X-word mainstays: Enya vs. Eno

notes on camping (Pillbox), Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:06 (twelve years ago) link

Oh yeah, JBR. what was I thinking. In fact, one time there was an xword clue that was something like "1963 Album ___ in Paris." I had E_ _ A and reflexively put in ENYA.

Scharlach Sometimes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 31 July 2011 06:17 (twelve years ago) link

Probably even said "1963 Jazz album"

I had a recurring nightmare around age 11 or 12 where I was trapped in the video for orinoco flow with the "sail away" part playing over and over

Actually don't think I remember hearing either "Orinoco Flow" or "Twist In My Sobriety" until just now. I must have been ill in 1988.

Me too. I think Cameron ripped off the "Orinoco Flow" video for Titanic.

I applaud the usage of venn diagrams for describing and analyzing interpersonal relationships.

i won't buy used furniture. can't deal with the possibility of bedbugs.

apihopatcong weehawkul (get bent), Sunday, 31 July 2011 07:50 (twelve years ago) link

Even a table and chairs? Assuming dining room type chairs, they seem less buggable.

Lame ass Saturday night. Out of the blue this girl I was obviously into ... we almost had a thing going when she had a boyfriend (it was rumored that she wanted to leave him for me at the time) ... contacts me out of the blue to hang out and tells me she broke up with him. I think, "wow, maybe it'll finally happen!" Then we hang out, and she brings along some guy she's hooking up with. Who does that? Do people think at all? Feels like some kind-of cosmic humiliation.

i just curled up & fell asleep in my clothes last night, at some point later making the position to pulling a blanket over me. actually counts as a good saturday night, really, i never recognise that i'm tired & then fall asleep rather than stubbornly resisting it, usually. falling asleep in my clothes & falling asleep on my couch still feel like signs of pride and autonomy in being an adult to me.

this thread reminds me that i have, for a year, had a dining table with no chairs. i should probably do something about this.

late to the party but my saturday night included going on a bike ride with my dad + bf, watching airplanes take off/land, riding back, going to dinner where i ate delicious wood oven pizza and ordered a beer because it was called "fade to black" and there were 180 beers to choose from. bonus: it was awesome, like drinking manhattan special + alcohol, and the label is sweet:
