Are there any particularly great and active hockey writers? Who are they?

A Chuck Person's Guide to Mark Aguirre (Andy K), Saturday, 10 September 2011 13:05 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not aware of any posnanski types as far as individual writers go.

puck daddy is very active -- probably 10 posts a day even during the summer.

sports illustrated's red light blog is less prolific but somewhat more long-form.

james mirtle at the globe and mail is as good as anyone on applying advanced stats to hockey. he's a bit leafs-focused tho, due to his employer.

this guy seems to be pretty into point shares and similar analysis, but i haven't really read him.

drew doughty makin' a lot of $ -- but not as much as brian campbell! it is annoying to me that dumb teams are able to jettison their shitty contracts because the islanders/panthers need to reach the salary floor.

that is true, about mike modano

wow. i'm completely understanding that great defense wins championships, and i agree re: Drew's contract but Kopi is as awesome a defensive forward as he is a incredible scorer/forechecker/playmaker, no?

Not at all.

Waxahachie Swap (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Sunday, 2 October 2011 23:25 (fourteen years ago)

IT IS ON

a) matt cooke is leading the league with two goals and zero pims
b) roberto luongo still sux
c) drew doughty played 27 minutes today
d) did you see don cherry call stu grimson, chris nilan and georges laraque 'hypocritical pukes' on coach's corner last night? i mean, i know it's his thing to be ~outrageous~ but just maybe a guy who never played shouldn't call a guy nicknamed 'the grim reaper' a pussy
e) fuck the flyers

also hearty lols at tortorella relentlessly burying sean avery last week:

"I don't want to jam up Sean here - I think we have better players than Sean Avery, plain and simple," Tortorella said in a small gathering with reporters on the second floor of the team's hotel. "I can dodge it ten different ways, without trying to run Sean over. I thought he had a good camp. But I think with the makeup of our team, and some of the people we've added, and some of the youth we've added as far as depth put Sean in this spot.

"The players that are here are better than Sean Avery," Tortorella reiterated. "Maybe not in the role or a couple instances Sean could help us in, but they're more versatile in a lot of different areas.

"I'm trying to do this the right way, because I do not wanna keep on shoveling dirt over Sean Avery, but we have better players than Sean Avery, right now on the hockey club."

mookieproof, Monday, 10 October 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

Had a spur of the moment chance to see the Hawks vs the Stars in the Chicago home opener over the weekend and took it... damn it feels good to watch hockey again, even if it's two teams I pretty much detest. Hawks looked pretty good but seem to have a lot of new players.

How in the world did Sundin get in? My mom has an irrational love for Sundin, maybe she's a secret voter.

I found him in a Bon Ton ad (Nicole), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 03:41 (thirteen years ago)

will marty go in right away or will they wait?

obvs gretzky goes in whenever, lemieux had various health issues -- not sure if anyone else was waived. certainly marty (and maybe lidstrom) are at least candidates.

sundin's not in! xp

mookieproof, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 03:43 (thirteen years ago)

notable relevant parties:

CuJo (no cups; had the misfortune of being surrounded by Roy, Brodeur, Belfour, Hasek, Richter; seemed like a cult figure to anyone outside of St.L; was then buried in Toronto),

BELFOUR (asshole; 1,000,000 dollars, 1 SC ring),

HASEK (changed the thought process of the position; a Quick/Lundqvist 1.0; had 3 MONSTER years that I can remember and a bunch of other where he was merely spectacular, SC ring, in the path of history, it seemed),

Vernon (career sv% .890),

RICHTER (USA USA),

Brasshole (career % line 3.24, .892)
