least interesting plotline imo.

Was that Bryan Cranston who popped up during the party scene?

The Walt-Mike scene was great, but it shows that Walt has no idea why Gus really killed that guy, and finding that out is valuable information later down the line. I hope they don't team up, I like Mike as a chilling enforcer who's as likely to save Walt's live as end it.
The fact that Saul has basically gone AWOL is a bit of an unexploded bomb, Skylar's going round trying to do a load of money laundering shit on her own and she's likely to draw attention to herself, I think.
Saul commercial was hilarious though. Gus killing scene and the whole first episode generally fucking tense throughout.
Hank and Marie are kind of painful to watch that the moment. I hope the story goes somewhere further than just another thing Walt has to pay for.
<3 Badger.

I'm not sure that Walt is this cold calculating type. I think he wants to be that but fails. I can see the show going either way, him becoming the Heisenberg kingpin type like we would expect or just like Walt's other endeavors he ultimately fails and moves onto something else, all the time citing these noble reasons and taking far too much pride in his work. He's the ultimate wasted talent/genius/ego maniac who always promises but never delivers. I think some links can be made to Bill Hendrickson (Big Love) who for the whole show you just end up screaming 'FUCKING LEAVE IT BILL'.
Think the relationship between Mike and Walt is going to develop into an interesting one. Mike's constant coughing and stuff I think could either be a red herring or a bit of an obvious clue as to how they might find common ground.

You might be right! would make sense within the plot: the guy who stayed too long at the party, is a little too old and is confused how he got there

and mike has cancer, right? that's why he feels friendly toward walt at all?
he does? they sure crammed a lot into these 3 seasons
also, i really dont want a reveal that hank's mineral collection has some relevant investigatory angle 2 it (i cant even guess what it could be tho)

Even if they kill Gus they then have the problem of as yet unseen bad dudes from Mexico who Gus has been warding off. Of course they could just take the money and give up but yeah right.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 13:35 (fourteen years ago)
yeah maybe i was unclear, i definitely think it's all part of hank's heisenberg-investigation xp

see i just want him to be off his nut & think its more interesting. it seems lame 2 me 2 set him up as crazy geode buyer only to then have it tangibly payoff w/r/t getting heisenberg. but w/e i like messy, divergent, pointless plotlines

i did love the bad tweaker logic to defuse the situation ("they pass the savings along to you!"), not the least of the reasons for which being that it's evidently a real pizza place

one reservation about the show, it's suddenly got v small in terms of places and people, like no more mexicans (for now), no hank out policing with his partners/co-workers etc...it is a bit sort of depleted feeling at the moment.
― LocalGarda, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 16:59 (fourteen years ago)
"no more mexicans (for now)"
It's only two episodes in. I suspect they'll work on reintegrating mexicans into the story shortly.

Apparently the guy that called Walt outside Gus' house was neither Mike nor Gus, but the new guy at the lab.
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 21:57 (fourteen years ago)
Did think it was kind of weird that Gus would call him
― Number None, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 21:58 (fourteen years ago)
That wasn't Mike? It sounded like Mike's voice.

From Alan Sepinwall's blog:
UPDATE: There's been so much debate in the comments about who called Walt - Gus or Mike - that I went and asked Vince Gilligan. I don't view his answer as any kind of spoiler (as it's info from an episode that's already aired), but in case you do, don't read the next short paragraph:
So as it turns out, it wasn't Mike. And it wasn't Gus. It was, instead, the new third man in the operation, Tyrus (played by Ray Campbell), whom we saw earlier weighing the batch. And that explains why no one could agree on whether it was Esposito's voice or Banks's voice, I suppose.
― Number None, Tuesday, 26 July 2011 22:28 (fourteen years ago)
According to Breaking Bad summary it's Mike:

"Late that night, Walt approaches Gus's house, gun in hand, but loses his nerve when Mike calls telling him to "Go home, Walter." His every move is being watched."
i assumed caller was the new guy. Did not sound like Mike & certainly not Gus.
― notes on camping (Pillbox), Tuesday, 26 July 2011 22:35 (fourteen years ago)
I assumed it was Gus. THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

definitely thought it was mike, they have a certain rapport after all. new guy makes no sense to me.
― sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:26 (fourteen years ago)
it makes sense for new guy to be watching gus' house in a protective manner. it's kind of his job, no?
― tehresa, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:27 (fourteen years ago)
I don't know...it seems off to me in character terms. The assured tone, the stealthy tailing chops — these are Mike's hallmarks, I don't get it.
That said, it would have been really weird if it was Gus...he'd be left with no choice but to have Walt killed in the lab the next morning.
That whole thing is kind of atypically "really?" for me in terms of this show. I mean, I get that Walt is feeling his oats now, but making that pitch to Mike in the bar seemed ill-considered and kind of rash even by his standards. Unless he, too, thought it was Mike who called him, and decided he had no choice but to make a big play in order to preempt Mike ratting him out to Gus?
― Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:29 (fourteen years ago)

We don't know anything about his character yet! Except that he's careful about the weight.
― naked hdsl (sic), Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)
Well, we know he's the new guy, and that he can't know Walt very well yet. But he spoke like they were intimates.
― Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:43 (fourteen years ago)
So you guys think Gilligan is lying?
