xp In Blockbuster, Tom Shone identifies Batman as the tipping point for blockbuster hype - the first movie where hype was successfully manufactured on a grand scale. I wish he'd included a bit about the soundtrack because I bet the conversation was pretty much verbatim as Dan said.

and yeah, the hype for this was insane. i was too young to really live through star wars hype, but i don't remember anything being so...saturated for so many months before the thing premiered.

the amount of batman-related merchandise i bought in the spring/summer of 1989 was 0_o.

the first batman was before my time, but i remember watching it on tv as a kid and asking my dad why batman was wearing a turtleneck and glasses - i found it very confusing that batman would dress like a weenie

like i remember going to county fairs and shit and there being booths where people had made bootleg batman buttons where they didn't even get the symbol right and still selling out of them.

even carnies know a good thing when they see it, i guess.

My dad was such a Batman stan (since the 60s) that he bought the soundtrack. It's not the first Prince album I would have chosen to hear all the way through. Probably stopped me from going beyond his singles for a few years afterwards.

Anyone who didn't watch the early 90s Captain America on syfy last night really missed out. It was like the Room of superhero movies -- the female lead even looked like Lisa.

To be fair I don't think Dolph's Punisher is any worse or more ridic than any of the other Punisher movies.
