stepmomster (Lamp), Friday, 22 July 2011 01:17 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, I run in the heat. I just go slower and drink sufficient fluids.

Jeff, Friday, 22 July 2011 02:58 (fourteen years ago)

So apparently we're all under some kind of *HEAT DOME* -- because it being hot outside needs to be some kind of scary-sounding new phenomenon and not just it's hot

Those anti global warming dudes are all recalling a mere two Chicago summers ago, when there were no days that even hit 90, and several in the 70s.

That was blissful. I didn't even bother installing the A/C unit that year.

jaymc, Friday, 22 July 2011 04:00 (fourteen years ago)

TS: anti global warming dudes justifying their beliefs based on an extremely small sample size vs global warming dudes doing the same thing.

Jeff, Friday, 22 July 2011 04:25 (fourteen years ago)

let the A/C run all night, a rare indulgence, bcz at 7am today it was 85

this is probably the one day this year when i wish i had to get up at 6 to go into work instead of going in at 2.

guys, nelly has provided a simple solution to this problem that you would all be well-served by remembering

so it's 101 in Baltimore with a "heat index" of 136

looking up what a heat index of 105-130 is, I find: "Danger — heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely; heat stroke is probable with continued activity" ; since today we're at 136, this produces: "Extreme danger — heat stroke is imminent"

yikes!

I am drinking one of these and trying to decide if it is disgusting or really, really delicious:

Not good at drinking lots of water to beated the heat, so I'm focusing on yuppie sodas.

i am usually like an eight-year-old when it comes to staying hydrated with water vs. sugary garbage, but i am pretty sure i have had four gallons of h20 in the last two hours.

I was in a wedding in 03 or so in August, highs in upper 90s, bridesmaids in long black dresses, and we were all supposed to get ready at a friend's not air-conditioned house. Also the rehearsal dinner was outside. The couple divorced three months later, probably under the weight of all the curses heaped upon them by their bridal party.

ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Friday, 22 July 2011 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

i would rather puke 5 times than get ready at that house

j lol (surm), Friday, 22 July 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

i'm sorry but u ppl who have ur weddings outside in july or august have a screw loose

j lol (surm), Friday, 22 July 2011 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

OTM.

I came close to puking. I mean, the bedroom where all the readying was to occur was in the attic!!! There were dressed up women hiking up their black dresses and standing over fans all over the place.

ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Friday, 22 July 2011 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

Plus imagine trying to put on wedding make up in those conditions.

ilx poster and keen dairy observer (Jenny), Friday, 22 July 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

I was going to read a book in my air-conditioned room today, but work drama has forced me to my computer in the other room. And now I find myself on ILX instead of back in bed. How'd that happen??

It's too hot to eat, ffs.

same here.

I'm going to be hungry soon, but I really don't want to walk down the sidewalk for a cheeseburger.

I sort of want/need to accomplish some things today but it seems like even walking two blocks to catch an air-conditioned bus might be a mistake?

It's been horrid for a week out here in the unpleasant plains, but we're used to ac all the time from June to September. I've been taking long walks at 7am each day & it feels like the whole town is out, in preparation for hiding again all day.

brownie, Friday, 22 July 2011 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

yesterday my company had their annual summer picnic outside, on the island, on THE HOTTEST JULY DAY IN TORONTO'S HISTORY! it actually wasn't *too* bad. we drank alot and did some activities, but had the shade of the trees most of the time.
also: water balloon fights help cool you down (a bit)!
