should prolly be an ilx embed

duke of irl (Edward III), Monday, 18 July 2011 19:42 (fourteen years ago)

honestly, i knew i should expect the unexpected with Gus's reaction. but i'm not sure about what he did. why do that? seems too irrational for Gus. why the need for it?

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

i guessed he was going to kill that guy pretty much the minute he walked in. and the reason was because he's more of a liability than walt/jesse cos he was seen at gail's apartment.

LocalGarda, Monday, 18 July 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)

ahhh. true. i guess the whole Gus getting killed thing could be put on him a little as well.

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

yeah had to be that he was spotted at the scene acting weird.

Aerosol, Monday, 18 July 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

He also wanted to put the shits up Walt and Jesse big time.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

the scene worked, but agree it was out of character for gus... he doesn't get his hands dirty ever and then he wacks somebody?

the way I rationalized it was gus was so pissed about gale and his plans being thwarted that he had to take it out on somebody, and out of the present company that would make the most impact - keep walt + jesse intimidated plus wipe out a guy who was spotted at the scene... but it still didn't make sense given his trusted role in gus' org

xpssss

duke of irl (Edward III), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:13 (fourteen years ago)

ya. i always thought Gus's team seemed a little sparse to begin with.

have strong urge to rewatch s3 now to see if there are any clues of what's inside LAB NOTES

ya me too, it somewhat ruined the suspense of that scene 4 me

johnny crunch, Monday, 18 July 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

like if it says "walt's secret sauce" anywhere in there I'm sure we'll get several eps worth of it being dangled under hank's deskridden nose

duke of irl (Edward III), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

victor's authoritative initiation of the cook was a nice piece of misdirection tho

xp

duke of irl (Edward III), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

Gus took a risk and hired Walt in the first place because Gale convinced him 96% purity wasn't good enough, Victor wasn't going to reach anywhere near that with his.

Dust, Monday, 18 July 2011 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

and you know gale's advice worked out so awesome for gus

duke of irl (Edward III), Monday, 18 July 2011 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

damn

tpp, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

xpost exactly, and why have a crap cook who's implicated in a murder when you can have walt who is begging to work.

i didn't think this was an amazing start i have to say, there were scenes that were sort of pointless, eg skylar driving the car away and coming back, seemed to take ages but what was the point? the length of the gus scene made it feel a bit weirdly edited or uneven, which is v unusual for breaking bad.

not doubting tho, it's the return of the show that's great, it won't succeed or fail for me based on the first episode.

thought the hank bits were great.

LocalGarda, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

Hank stuff was good. as was each scene at Gale's.

karma's ruthless invisible (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 July 2011 21:13 (fourteen years ago)

thought the colours + lighting during that gus scene were incredible. this is probably the only show i've ever felt inclined to try and watch in HD

tpp, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:14 (fourteen years ago)

seriously gruesome though

tpp, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:16 (fourteen years ago)

the ketchup thing was amazing. i love the playfulness of the show. actually maybe the best part was jesse's deadpan "trust us" after mike asked if the acid worked.

dude who plays mike is just a fantastic actor. he is so well cast, those constant jaw clenches and slight head swivels he does are worth a thousand words. that scene in s3 where he talks about "half-measures" and tells the story about being a policeman etc, is just so unbelievably raw and real.

LocalGarda, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

fuck directTV for not having AMC in HD; I'll be torrenting the next two weeks of this until I'm able to get back on a real cable system.

yeah otm. until the big Gus scene the episode felt underwhelming to me.

did anything important happen once Skyler got into Walt's other apartment? they made a big deal out of the locksmith but then she didn't really find anything there, right? or am I missing something?

dmr, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

just another excuse to show that eyeball

^ one of my favorite bb moments

I thought the locksmith scene was a great character piece for Skylar... really demonstrated how conniving and manipulative she can be, which I think is a bit of foreshadowing in terms her characters development this season.

Like, when she handed this strange man her newborn baby I was disgusted with her in a way I haven't been before, even though I didn't even like her character until season 3!

writing down my vagina’s sorrows for all the world to see (The Brainwasher), Monday, 18 July 2011 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

on reflection feel the victor thing was a bit stupid...like they made him be seen at the crimespot just so that they could make him have suddenly decided he could cook meth just so they could have gus SURPRISINGLY kill him. not the standard you'd usually expect.

LocalGarda, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:55 (fourteen years ago)

lol crimespot...crimescene!

LocalGarda, Monday, 18 July 2011 21:55 (fourteen years ago)

No, I can see why me showed up at the crimescene... at the end of s3 he was trying to get there before Jesse did. So clearly, he didn't think Gale had already been killed when he went there, he was trying to prevent it!

writing down my vagina’s sorrows for all the world to see (The Brainwasher), Monday, 18 July 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

yeah true...but he did kinda storm in

LocalGarda, Monday, 18 July 2011 22:09 (fourteen years ago)

so what, just another lookey-loo

^ loved that

yeah and just spending a little time with her cause it's been awhile

I was surprised by Victor knowing the recipe. They set it up so that viewers could have guessed it in season 3 but it never entered my mind.

Not surprised by him being killed instead of Walt and Jesse. Mike mentioning the witnesses without an immediate plot payoff gave it away.

little mushroom person (abanana), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 00:20 (fourteen years ago)

plus the ep is called 'box cutter' ffs, someones gettin gashed, isnt gonna be walt or jesse, no reason for mike to get it

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 00:45 (fourteen years ago)

the killing was more graphic than reservoir dogs.. crazy to me that this is on TV

have you seen the walking dead

duke of irl (Edward III), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 00:51 (fourteen years ago)

yea i could not even deal w/ that teaser for that show my god

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

no i haven't

speaking of tarantino, the denny's scene felt like a pretty explicit acknowledgement of the debt they owe to his steez

40% chill and 100% negative (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

was going to mention the cleanup --> diner thing being a pretty transparent tarantino homage

I kinda miss the chemistry MacGyver stuff.

Dan I., Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:33 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, obviously the clean-up was like that, but they did that one already!

Next ep is 'thirty-eight snub'! Any wagers?

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:48 (fourteen years ago)

I would be cool with them naming each episode after the weapon that kills someone in said episode, that would be clever

generous doler out of lollies (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:49 (fourteen years ago)

And the last episode would be "love"

generous doler out of lollies (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:50 (fourteen years ago)

that's a gun innit? i'd guess hank thinks about shooting himself.

little mushroom person (abanana), Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:51 (fourteen years ago)

that would be clever - but only if they reversed engineered it so that they had to write around whatever random noun they picked as a little.
