I think my biggest realization that I had fully integrated back into the tastes of mainstream society was the one-two punch of finding "American Beauty" a fascinating, entertaining movie and being completely taken by the comedy stylings of Will Ferrell.

For me it was liking a lot of songs on the radio throughout college.

Dignity. Always dignity.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Friday, 30 March 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

this whole "I flounced off of a thread so I will post quotes off of it to other threads in the bitchiest manner possible" thing is incredibly pathetic

THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Friday, 30 March 2012 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

that's the kind of creep I am.

Creep/Dignity

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Friday, 30 March 2012 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

also, it's not a very mainstream tactic, so you may just dismiss it like a pre-1985 film.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 30 March 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

??? Are you really that desperate for schtick that you don't recognize that you behave like a 14-year-old bully?

THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Friday, 30 March 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

A mainstream, Minnesota bully. Possibly like an American Idol judge, the dream job of every MN populist.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 30 March 2012 19:10 (fourteen years ago)

This is because Minnesota voted for Obama isn't it

seven months pass...

pretty damn proud today....we turned back onerous ballot amendments requiring voter ID and banning gay marriage....the shitbags in the state GOP thought those ballot amendments would turn out there vote, it had the opposite effect....now they have lost both the state senate AND the state house, in addition to our standing democrat governor....

bachman nearly lost which would have been the cherry on top, i bet the dems wish they would have dumped money into that race earlier

still, was super worried about the ballot amendments and we got it right

captain angeroo (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:26 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, quite pleased with my homeland this morning tbqh.

this update fixes the following known sugs (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:27 (thirteen years ago)

In the national context, Bachmann does put an unpleasant face on the wingnuts. Best possible outcome - she becomes permanent minority leader.

in the Land of the Yik Yak (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

yeah in the long game it's maybe not bad...obviously if there had been any real chance the democrats could have taken the house i'd feel gutted....but yeah yr right, she's probably more valuable being in the public eye just generally acting like a maniac

captain angeroo (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

That's not to say I didn't donate to her delightfully named 2008 challeger Elwyn Tinklenberg's campaign when that race was tied and she started blathering in the national media about Obama being anti-American.

in the Land of the Yik Yak (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

it's honestly amazing it's becoming close there...my in-laws are long-suffering active in the party democrats in Sterns County, which makes up the majority of her district...it's a tough row to hoe for a democrat to say the least

captain angeroo (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

So proud of Minnesota today. I hope Bachmann - who probably wins because there are dorks in her district who like that she's always on TV - got the absolute shit scared out of her, but next time, surely she's a goner?

ella fingerblast hurls forever (suzy), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

was really worried about the marriage amendment and i have a gay couple next door and a lesbian couple with a kid about the same age as ours two doors down, and god i was really not looking forward to facing them if it passed, like sorry y'all the state thinks you're second class citizens

so happy about this

captain angeroo (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

so happy we're not such huge assholes as to make it illegal twice.

'til the end, my dear (arby's), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

Speculation in the newsroom that Graves wants to try again in 2014 and a recount would've just been too much bad mojo.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

So thrilled that, honestly, I can't be bothered by the fact that there are at least 1.4M bigots in this state who committed, to me, an unforgivable act.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

I <3 my home state! (at least most of it)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

so in a fit of post-election pride i went on a tear of "civic-minded" blogs and such yesterday, and was surprised to learn how much stuff the met council has cooking right now. how did i miss a new saints stadium in lowertown??

someone tell me: is mpls/st paul particularly unique in the quantity/nature of our municipal developments? how come no one pushed for the riverview corridor LRT, how boss would that have been?? is the transport interchange really gonna help downtown double its occupancy?? also wth duluth is also putting in multimodal transport hub, with plans for high-speed?? will Stars FC announce this afternoon that, in addition to new ownership, they're going to develop parade stadium which btw is totally right next to the projected site of the van white stop on the southwest LRT??

also this:

Q. What happens if my cart is missing or damaged?
Please contact us for assistance. Scavengers, graffiti vandals and kids having fun can target your cart. Place your recycling cart at the collection point the night before, or on the day of your collection, and move it away from the curb after it has been emptied.

there's just something so commonsensical and relaxing about seeing language like this on a "govt" website after months and months of ppl yelling slogans at each other. plus single-sort recycling is like a perfect example of a govt initiative that conservatives might feel obliged to oppose if it weren't so fucking useful. NO ONE LIKES TO SORT THEIR RECYCLING, YOU'RE WELCOME

also i called 311 (on election day no less) to report/advise on some bike-related signage in my neighborhood and someone called back the next day to ask me about it. AND said that my idea had already been pointed out by other ~concerned citizens~ and that plans were already made to address it

Think the getting help for anger part is the most heartening to read.

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Friday, 29 March 2013 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

Barnard said his anger issues stem from how he feels KQRS is run, plus the federal and state governments.

ums (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 29 March 2013 22:10 (thirteen years ago)

Still, for a personality like him to admit that he ALSO has a problem...

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Friday, 29 March 2013 22:35 (thirteen years ago)

What happened to personal responsibility? Get a load of this guy! Getting high and acting crazy and blaming it on his employers and the government. Check out this economy! This guy's complaining that he's got a job. I know a lot of people that wouldn't complain about having a job. But that's the kind of guy you get nowadays. It's not my fault he says. We'll I tell you I've had enough of these clowns blaming their own personal failure on other people--getting high because it's fun...and abusing what abusing wine and pills? Is this a man of today or a woman from the 1960s? [laughter] You can't tell the difference. Saying the government made me angry. My job made me angry. My kids made me angry. Get a life, loser, and suck it up like my dad. At least when he passed out on the couch after yelling at mom it was a can of beer that rolled out of his hand, not a bottle of rose. *honk honk* *whooooosh* *faaaaaart*
